Explained it in less than 30 min, something my professor failed to explain with 4-6 lectures. Thanks man!

Can we sign a petition to teach this stuff in middle school so that math actually makes damn sense when having visual data to contextualize the mathematical processes you are using to manipulate such data. I found learning mathematics much more intuitive to learn when viewing it through a statistical lense. Great video btw.

Hallo Curran, at 9:45, why do you think Age Group is considered categorical as opposed to ordered?

You're right - that should be considered ordered. My mistake!

Why are the bar charts said to be lines and not bars or rectangles?

You know, it's funny you mention this because I had the same question. As I was making these slides I originally had bars categorized as "areas" not "lines". I only changed it because Tamara Munzner classifies them as lines in her book Visualization Analysis and Design. The truth is I don't know whether the bars are really "lines" or "areas". Maybe if you've got a bunch of rectangles that all have the same width but just different heights, they are "lines", but if you've got say a Treemap with rectangles with varying width and height, they are "areas".

Haha, good point. A puddle looks like a lake to an ant. Lines look like rects when you zoom in close enough.

I think a bar is classified as line because it’s its length/height that conveys the information, not its width/thickness.

Would stacked bar chart be considered lines as well?

Ref the video from Eagles nest, where you mention the "air raid" siren going of while looking at 1 of the 2 remaining 2 man bunkers. Used for volunteer fire Department - 3 × 15 seconds blast, with 7 seconds pause in between, as alert for a mission. Of course pagers, and or text message on cell is also used.
