Not everyone in the philippines can sing well but everyone loves telling stories. We are syory tellers may it be in a form of songs, arts, music in general, dancing etc. We just love to take other people for a ride. We wanted to reach out to people and hopefully be relatable. As a filipino, it's not entirely true. Filipinos loving karaoke that much is just a stereotype, I can hardly see any Filipinos singing at karaokes these days . What might be true is that the music industry in the Philippines is big and has influence over the people that's why there's a lot that can sing, I don't really consider karaoke as a root cause 😊

The truth is we just love singing with or without karaoke that the local govt feel the need to impose a curfew of 10 - 11pm so the neighbors can sleep. I have witness some vlogs where the foriegn vloggers are amazed that people almost fight for the mic .. ha ha its true in rural areas
Hi all! Thanks for your replies and all the info. It was something that I heard and I am in no way an expert on Filipino culture. I only know that singing is quite common. The curfew is interesting too. hahaha Almost fighting for the mic hahaha I think I'm going to visit the Philippines one day.

Karaoke, most of the house in Philipines have it. So after dinner we sings with the family
Its not the genes alone.... but our culture... dont be surprise to hear someone singing in the bathroom, on the streets, or in random places... not to mention videokes are everywhere here the philippines... not everyone are good at singing... but the feeling to sing in public is so good we forgot we are shy in the first place

I know you found it strange watching a boy singing with his arms raised and people beside seemed to to notice. Actually the boy was in a public jeepney and he just hitch riding to sing for money. I find him a good singer though. I did not see the part when he finished singing and if someone gave him something. Thanks for giving credit to Filipino hidden talents
Because here in the Philippines infants are put into sleep by lullabies. And the fun way to teach kids lessons are thru music. The actions songs, (sing and dance), they are introduced to songs. Then most of the children can really sing a tune. (not all) and by they age, they are encouraged to perform. even in a class, a teacher would observe if some students get bored, he/she will then ask one student to sing just to energize the whole class. Some free time of the kids/teens are thru singing, jamming. Not to mention some home's entertainment system which includes the karaoke. (some households).
Its because the the first karaoke in the world is made by filipino
singing is encouraged in Philippines. Not that everyone can sing well, it's just that it's really encouraged, so many more talents are found. Plain and simple.
I smiled so big when you reacted to the singer with just an ear to ear smile because it showed that the singer truly captivated you.

It’s also the land of timeless classics... it’s not improbable that a song from the 70s to the 90s and even the 60s is playing in every other local radio station.... It’s a place where Whitney Houston still reigns, the Beatles still lords over, Journey is just around the corner sang by a group of boys sitting in the sidewalk... Seals Is not only a sea mammal, Air Supply is not only about controlling your breath and ABBA is still young and together... Filipinos hold on to good music... another thing is the encouragement singing gets... you have to be really bad and obnoxious before somebody shush you to silence... jamming us everywhere...in class as shown in the video, in the streets, even in McDonalds while waiting for your order like that boy belting a Celine Dion.... in public transports like that other boy hanging in the safety rail of a jeepney(minibus).... God forbid if your family discovers that you have an iota of talent... you’ll be made to train and practice to join all village and town singing contests contests...LOL. There’s a lot of those as Philippines is predominantly Catholic and villages and towns have saints feast days.... and it’s hard as there’s no voice trainors and no money if they happen to be available... Regine Velasques(Asias Songbird) was trained by her dad by having her sing in chest deep water on the beach... she mostly won those contest...LOL...
