  • This documentary is the story of one of the most remote sand mines in Europe and the people who worked in this unique environment in the 1940's and 1950's. A rare insight into industrial heritage based on archive footage mixed with modern storytelling. This was a community made film with support from the Donegal Local Development Company. (2012)

I am so glad I found this - We visited the quarry site last month and saw the remains looking very eerie in the swirling mist. As a former Pilkington employee, I was staggered to discover the links with Muckish. There is an excellent article by Mining Heritage Trust of Ireland that covers the technicalities of the quarry, but this programme adds so much more. Thank you for making it available.

Great bit of background music by the late great Liam Deery.

Thank you Mary. Liam's music added so much to the film. He was a real gentleman and it is an honour to have his music as our sound track.

Awesome storytelling. Might have to sprinkle some sand into my sandwich the next time I'm up for that authentic feel 👍
    Thanks

Many thanks David. Muckish has it's own way of putting the 'sand' into Sandwich alright! :)
