Clover leaf Blanket Answer, for the past 4 years in my new pond , 50% pre season treatment and then a 50% treatment again as soon as I see BW spores or minor trails on the pond wall , knocks it back every time, less of a clean up after as well . I’ve only 6 koi in 1000 gallon pond averaging from 50cm’ up to 60cm’s .
I find Clear Waters blanketweed treatment works for me - cloudiness clears overnight and have to treat 2, maybe 3 times per year. Doesn’t produce that black stuff on the pond walls and floor either.
Hi Andy Blanket Answer has always worked for me & follow up with Sludge Answer also helps, I have only had to apply twice this year. I'm form North Yorks on a pump fed system so have pipework / skimmer & a retro fit bottom drain so you soon know when algae arrives!! It may well work for you again next year as I'm finding out every pond is different. Currently changing my pond to a bottom drain with a fitted liner. Incidentally I have found that the old butyl liner is going ( Crispy / hardening ) I blame Blanket Answer for that but over the years it has not caused any leaks or other issues. Good luck!! I always enjoying watching your videos always informative & balanced views 👌👌👍👍
Hiya, I have a fibreglassed pond which I've found is a fit and forget lining. Bit more cash but there for a lifetime.. So glad your enjoying the videos..😊👍
I used to use Blagdon blanket weed stuff it was blue crystal it worked well but then someone told me to not treat blanket weed for two years and the pond makes its own enzymes that stops blanket weed growth and it worked I had to bare with it but eventually blanket weed problems just stopped anyhoo great vid as always love the content love your pond cheers pal
Hi Andy, in my opinion, building up healthy bacteria the natural way is quicker, I think people have more problems by over stocking their Pond, and upsetting the balance in there bio filter, great video mate 👍
I have found personally for my pond the powder blanketweed treatment just doesn't work i will only use a liquid one from NTLABS two doses 10 days apart and haven't had any further problems with blanketweed
Add a tall 4 tier Bakki Shower rather than bottle’s of additives! Put one on my pond around 18 months ago and I now have the best water quality that I’ve ever had! I haven’t even had to run my 2x55w UV’s at all this year, yet have gin clear water! Best addition I’ve ever added to my pond. The water appears “invigorated”, the fish are super active and love the shower return and have voracious appetite’s! It’s something I wish I’d added years ago!
I agree add a 4 tier bakki shower, plus anything you can do to improve your fish’s gut health is always a good idea. The benefits are increased appetite and improved health, the same in humans.
Hi Andy, I used to use the cloverleaf some years ago, but it did stop working for me, then I switched to Aqua source resolve and I’ve never looked back. I poor it directly into the pond around the edge onto the blanket weed it’s self and it seems to stick to the weed and chokes it. It doesn’t cloud the water at all, highly recommend it m8
I fitted a permanent pegola, about 15 years ago , never had blanket weed since , it shades pond really well , i did try parasol like you but still had issues. I tried treatments for fish health, i find good quality food keeps my koi looking , healthy, colorful, and pariste free ( touch wood ) i feed takazumi gold 👍
Used quite a few blanket weed treatments over the years and was recommended Aqua Source Blanketweed Resolve. Never looked back Andy and a bonus is that you do not have to turn off your UV during treatment.
As time goes by, your fish get bigger, they need, or have more food, more food means, if your filters work properly more Nitrate (plant food/blanket weed food) higher phophates, and then all blanket weed products start to struggle, I also have had a problem with blanket weed this year that I have not had in previuos years, what was I doing differently, I was pushing feed for growth, so my high feed levels was causing the blanket weed issue and in turn, water clarity as well, now the season is coming to an end, cooler temps, and less food, both blanket weed and clarity issues seem to me to be going away, Andy, this may not be the same with you, but could be a possibility, hope this is of some help at least, best wishes, Tony😀
Hello my pond was like pea soup and bad blanket weed I tried Resolution + got it of jack from UK koi in crew I used it 1 a week for a month = 4 times for the mouth and then ones a month there on to be honest I haven't looked back give it a go let me no how you get on thanks robbie
Hi Andy, I us Aqua source blanketed resolve I always put it in at the beginning of the season you just sprinkle it around the pond mate and there's no need to trun off the uv I have been using it for the last 5 years now and I have never had a problem with it mate. Steve
Hi Andy, have you got an old Blanket Answer tub to compare the ingredients to the tub you've used this year just to see if it's changed? It's just a suggestion with alot of other companies lowering product standards to save money. I've used Blanket Answer for years too, but only once a year if that and it's always worked, luckily I've had no blanket weed this year at all. Cheers Andy
As you know, I've got through open heart surgery and my koi have survived me not being around. To assist the ones looking after the pond, i increased Ozone to thr top of the aerobic zone....mid level. I normally only dose low. The Ozone increase has killed all blanket weed. I personally blame water quality for the Blanket Weed issues. 5mg/l!!! Along with raw sewage being dumped, our poor rivers are never going to have a chance of reducing blanket weed.
Try aqua source resolve, I’ve had excellent results with it this year, treated twice early in the season and it not returned at all, I’ve found it works slower , not black slime just slowly breaks down the blanket weed
no blanketweed at all...I have no idea why I don't get it but boy am I happy about it. Have zero ammonia but I do have a very slight trace of nitrite. Clay is supposed to help with clarity but I've never noticed any difference when using it.
Blanket Answer has always done the job for me. I had a huge problem with the stuff for years, nearly closed the pond down then in desperation tried it, 3 weeks later it was gone 🙂 Subsequently I've got a moss like algae- guess it's using the nitrate that's now free as the blanket weed isn't consuming it- which is also a pain in the butt though nowhere near as bad. Barley straw bales in the filters stop it growing on cleaned surfaces, but to get rid of it I'm going to have to drain the pond and pressure wash it which is no mean feat, 6500 gallons 🙄
Air-Aqua Green Control workshop very well against blanket weet. But youre blanket weet problem is just a matter of to much nutricion in your water. Do youre weekly waterchanges to dispose nitrate. And fosfates. Try a different brand of koifood. That can also make a big difference. Use quality koifood. Best regards from the Netherlands. (Pardon my English)
Might be worth a try with aqua source resolve for the blanket weed, it doesn't cloud the water and its a decent price aswell, works a treat for me, another great vid mate 👍
I haven't suffered with blanket weed this year as after my drum filter pond goes through planted garden then enters a small area with barley straw then back down the waterfall to the pound there's a very slight bit on the walls but nothing really bad
Hi Andy, im off to see Danny on Sunday to pick up my Hi Utsuri, this will be my last fish now for my pond...I think ;) This year, ive gone against the "norm" and decided to buy some food off Ebay which is 43% protein, instead of the koi taxed food and ill be honest its a blinder, my fish ive bought from Danny (about 5-6 of them) have put some quality meat on over the summer for £12.85 for 2kg. The same for my combi-drum filter, i went and found a manufacture of these and bought one, ive saved myself over £1200 and the thing is brilliant , again to avoid the "koi tax" , if i ever need parts (hopefully not soon) i can get them express in 7 days, so not the end of the wolrd. Incidently im selling these combi drum filters now if any one wants details on them.....Blatant plug-Sorry pal :)
I've had a nightmare this year with parasites, I've just salted the pond for the very first time to see if that's better. If only it worked on the Labour party too. ;)
Hi I was using Evolution Aqua ( Blanket weed the natural solution) but was not satisfied with the results I find better and work for me : Eco pond (eco -friendly barley -bio algae control) for blanket weed and green water.
I see lots of koi keepers using Bactoplus PSB and imho I believe they are using it incorrectly. PSB use light to break down organic waste and therefore help to reduce the production of ammonia. It needs to go into the pond and not the filter. I see so many pouring it into moving beds and pressure filters where there is no light and where you need to have nitrifying bacteria. PSB does not contribute to the nitrification cycle but helps “clean” the water. Bactoplus have separate products for the filter.
Hi Andy nishikoi clear waters blanket weed no murky water dose 2 times and maintenance dose 2 weekly brilliant product 😊 nitrates phosphate will read low on test kits because blanket weed use it to grow cheers Perry
Now I did try that a few years ago when I got two grass carp but found they just got used to the food for thenother fish and didn't touch the blanket weed...🤨🤔👎
For the blanket weed, have you tried hydrogen peroxide? It may help as I used it in the aquarium and it cleared up the hair algae. I cannot speak for the fish protect & the fresh psp as I have never used them. Bacto plus and other similar probiotic products contain a few strains of lactobacillus bacteria & saccharomyces cerevisae yeast. These help to replace the beneficial probiotics that usually get wiped out from the fish slime coat & also from the fish guts by the chemicals, medications & antibiotics when treating disease & parasites. You probably won't see any benefits short term but by replacing the beneficial probiotics after any treatment will help with the fish digestion, immunity & slime coat & thus reduce sickness in the long run. I however do not spend 20 quid on these bottled probiotics but make my own from the whey of kefir and put it in a mixture of sugar and water and allow it to ferment for about a week. I then dilute it & use it. The kefir whey has approximately over 30 different strains of beneficial bacteria & yeasts so you get a lot more than what is in the bottled version at almost zero cost. I find it also helps with water quality to some extent as the probiotics help break down any uneaten food. I soak the food in it and feed the fish once a week for their gut health. I also add a little to the water after a water change. You need to keep an eye on the PH though, since lactic acid is a by product of the fermentation process and you don't want your PH going too low. The probiotics also produce a lot of B vitamins as a by product which is good for the fish nervous system, energy production & reducing stress. I hope this helps. Thank you for your videos. Keep them coming as we learn a lot from your videos. 👍
Interesting video Andy. I'm sure that most of the products on the market for koi/pets in general, are just playing on the owner wanting to give their animals the best, and in reality, have no real benefits to the animal. Of course , some products can be tested for positive results. I was hoping that you were going to speak of Fok. I am sceptical on its benefits ( just purely from a viewer of people using it ) , as to its benefits. Once added, it is being slowly filtered away and flushed out through changes of water, so it's very temporary use is doing what ??? Is that too playing on the same idea of the owner wanting to give a taste of a mud pond to their fish that live in an artificial pond in their garden. I really don't know, but does anyone see a definite positive result from it ? Have you any thoughts on it ?Great to see you Andy 😊
Hiya, I've been using FOK for around 4 years now and have physically seen benefits with water clarity, fish increased hunger, and an increase in KH. It is a short term as you said though as the filters do their just over a week or so..😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle interesting that it increases their appetite, definitely a positive there which is what all koi keepers are wanting. If they created a hard block which slowly dissolved over weeks or months, that could be a great product with a long term benefit throughout the growing season
Hallo Andy, i weekly looking forward to your video's 🇳🇱. For your blanket weed problem i use Green Away by House of Kata €23,50 for 500 gram in one year without any problem. Good Luck and keep on going 🎬
It’s just like the products for anglers. Much of the products are to hook the anglers and not fish. If you want to kill blanket week, use 1ltr of 3% hydrogen peroxide per 1000 gallons. Switch off filters for 1 hour while you treat and then turn them back on. Done.

You don’t need to keep putting chemicals in your pond and stop keep testing the water, most problems solve themselves.
The best way to keep KOI healthy is to activate their swimming behaviour and I would like to see this achieved by training them with you.
You need more pond plants make a bog pond after your filter then back to the pond
I've always been unsure about big filters due to them harbouring the wrong bacterias 🤔🤔
Stop putting all of those chemicals in your pond.I’ve had a pond for 30 years only done one treatment for Costia .Start again with a water change.
My friend stop putting chemicals in your pond 50% water change start fresh 💯🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
You only need 2 things Sodium Bicarbonate for ammonia and for fluke and other pests and saying goodbye to algea Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide
