0:10 Peperomia: Extremely slow growing medium to high light 0: 11 Satin pothos: Medium to high light 0:16 Pothos: SUPER EASY. Low to high light. Can grow in water. 0:51 Chinese evergreen aglaonema: low to medium light. Avoid sunlight. 0:58 Snake plant: Low light is ok but high light is better. 1:35 Arrowhead: Not recommended for beginners. It doesn't like being relocated; drops leaves fast. Likes high humidity, root rots if kept moist too long. 3:09 ZZ plant. Slow growing. Likes 2-4 weeks of dry soil per month. Avoid keeping it wet. @@akorenkov sorry haven't seen this till now. Depends on the plant broski, if you want to send me pics @ Gustavo.A.Orozco96@hotmail.com I'll be more than happy to explain. However just so you understand the reasoning for this I'll explain in the simplest way possible. A plant's life source are the roots, it uses them to uptake water and nutrients from the soil or any medium which you're growing in. Basically the roots can only absorb X amount of water before they resort to drawing the water and nutrients to fill themselves up. However we can't feel the roots so we go by the leaves to make sure the plant is healthy and if the leaves are telling you it doesn't need water, why water? It's the equivalent of us drinking water, we drink a certain amount only when we need it due to fatigue or exhaustion or being tired. I know it's not too specific but as an example to water succulents we usually feel the older mature leaves and if they're thick, plump, and firm leave it alone (doesn't matter if its been months). On the other side if the older leaves are thin and wrinkly then it is safe to assume you can water. Also wanted to mention if you're in doubt as a beginner its best not to water since you can always add water later and worst case scenario lose a leaf or two as opposed to risking overwatering and leading yourself to root rot.
plant mom tip: every now and then, poke aeration holes in the soil around the plant with a chopstick- this helps the soil from getting too stuck together, and will make sure water goes all the way to the plant's roots.
Only problem is that doesn't help when ur soil has no aeration amenities (lack of perlite or any non-porous minerals/rocks) much because your roots will start to rot and you may damage them if you're not careful or intuitively understand the function of the roots.
How do you choose an office plants that can withstand cold AC? Sansevieria & even pothos has perished within a month.. I watered them once a month as the soil were moist & cold but dry on the top at the same time... Help!!
HEY @WallStreetJournal @WSJ how about you bring someone on who knows these plants and how to take care of them, not just what looks pretty. If the roots absorb the water and nutrients from the soil, why are you going based off the soil and not the roots?? For those about to spam a comment saying "well it has to be completely dry" or something like that its all in the leaves. Feel the difference in between when your plants need water and when they're firm and full of body, thats the only way to gauge, cleaner than touching soil on an office desk too.
I would just use bigger top wattering from time to time when using bottom watering system as the minerals are taken up to the surface together with water.
Surprising video, full of almost no information. Should have like 3,4 suggestions of plants, and which ones to use in what sort of lighting conditions..
Sorry to say unless you plan on supplementing light for it (on top of full direct sunlight for at least 8hrs) and keep it in an ideal temp of 68°F - 72°F inside with fresh air. It's not a good idea.
I wonder how would this desk would look like with a... you know... a computer on it, plugged into a power source, connected to a screen, which is also plugged into a power source, and well, a mouse comes in handy too. Cause... you know, everything looks good when you remove the uncomfortable yet necessary parts. I do hate being lied to.
The last time I remember my boss was putting plants in her office with no air conditioning and in our country it's 32°C outside, even when watered they still die... Amd there little to no amount od sunlight just heat...
Did you know: Genghis Khan was the direct registered bloodline descendant of Edward III, King of Britain, of Roman Gucci ancestry? Genghis Khan was the son of Kublai Khan. Khulan was the wife of Genghis Khan. Kuan Yin was the daughter of Genghis and Khulan. Oghedi Khan, son of Genghis, inherited the throne of the newly founded Mongolia. The career of Mongke Khagan was mistaken for that of Kuan Yin's husband, Marco Polo. All of this took place in the 15th century.
Really? footcandle? Well to be fair she just said that footcandles is one of the best ways, not the best. And there are only three available. Lux is clearly the best since most of the world is using it, while foot candle and phot are among the worst. “Nearly all of the world uses the corresponding SI derived unit lux, defined as one lumen per square meter.”

Love for life.
