I really enjoy your videos you talk to us as if you’re sitting having a cuppa and chat about your day. Rats are a pest I feel your pain. I like how you include your mum in your decision you both work so hard.
Having seen a seagull hoiking out frog after frog after frog from my Mum's pond, I wonder if the netting was protecting the toads. Perhaps toads aren't as tasty 🤞. No frogspawn in my Anglesey pond 3 days ago. Lots of duck weed to be scooped. I have a berberis to windward of mine. The petals make it go orange! I'd need a very fine net for that😉. Great video, thanks chaps.
I have peas and all different onion seedlings celery through aswell and cayenne pepper seedlings but that it. I did have sweet peppers and aubergines but my little great grandson 18 months old got hold of those and they are now gonners☹️so I not too sure if I will sow again as may be too late now for those. I will decide soon. You are doing really well so far Jessie and loved your press day and all the others looked like great fun.👍see you next week🙋🏻♀️
My Momma talks to herself as well. I have to ask her if she’s talking to me or my brother lol….That would make it hard lol. I hope you all enjoy your day

Now that it’s March in Massachusetts, I’m getting back on board with both my own gardening tasks and also gardening content. I think I watched November to now in a week. Winters in Boston are brutal enough to get pretty disheartening, but I got my first community garden space last autumn. There’s major clearing and weeding left to do, but I’m so excited about getting stuck in. Rapini/cimi di rapa is my all time favorite vegetable, and until watching your vlog I never really considered it as something I could try growing on my own. I’ll also take great inspiration from your diy plant protection, as I already know I’m trying to garden in rat heaven…
Hey Jessie, What a fun video again today. I do love the Press Day videos. I watched the one from last year today also. I like seeing you show up with the folks I already follow makes me think I must be following the right folks. The poly tunnel rebuild looks to be a bit of a bugger esp the tree roots in the tomato area. Maybe the tomatoes need to take self defense classes. I would love to see the chickens learn to get out and go back maybe it will come this summer. I am so excited today February 28th is my OKRA starting Day it is my favorite day of the garden. I started about 80 seeds hoping for at least 60-70 to make it to fruition. I will stick them in wherever this is some room after their patch is full. Take care bye for now, Steven

Love your videos as always! Well done on getting cracking on the poly tunnel. I was wondering where you got the sticks you use to hang your netting over the pond then over the white sprouting broccoli at the end. They look a fab quick and dirty way of covering crops while I make some netted boxes once the weather improves. 😊
To get our chickens in during the light we would walk behind them with arms our directing them from behind. It worked really well. I think the idea is to look like a massive bird.

On Jessie's earlier video she said she saw one and thought it took the Woodpecker she blamed Lily at the beginning and then said sorry I just wanted her to be careful because when kites are hand fed in the wild they are not scared of humans red kites will kill a chicken on Impact so it will happen so fast there will be nothing so you can do about it

I wonder if you can speak to the caretaker at the school to find out what tree it is? Maybe get on his friendly side to see if they have any new garden plans for the borders. You would probably need to bury some sort of vertical metal sheeting to try at block the roots from the border of the plot, not just in the polytunnel. That media event looks good and i bet it was great to catch up with the guys. We used to have a toad that would hide in our veg bed or sandpit and lay its eggs in an old steel jug! Not seen it since the heatwave but could do with one now with the return of the slugs and snails!
Well the heat pads are a revelation, the first sowing of the year have all been potted on, peas, onions ,leeks and lettuce, and the second sowing, 2 types of beetroot, dwarf peas, cucumbers and different leeks are coming up nicely. The second sowing seeds are all Real Seed Company seeds and are looking good so far. I found a heated propagator in a house clearance that works, it's new, so that will be brought into use at the weekend.with another sowing. Also planted some 1st early's into tubs in the greenhouse and the carrots in a tub are coming up. Soooo exciting .
With your chickens do you do a call before they get a treat? That way they get trained to a call. We just do the "chick, chick, chick" at a high pitch and they come running. That way if you see a fox you can just do the call and they will come running and you don't have to waste time and run and grab a tin. Also I love banties but they are STUBBORN!
Lovely springtime like video today Jess. Love the mix up of the show and allotment. Bet you’ll be mixing all the good stuff in with compost taken from the polytunnel. Will you be layering the bottom of the Trenches with well rotted manure to help retain the moisture? Oh I Was thinking on the side where the tree is could you deeply dig in some metal sheets to prevent the roots from running directly into your tunnel. Or go around the edges of your plot on the schooltree side and drive a long spade into ground in a line to cut off the roots each early spring season maybe. Just an idea ❤
Thanks Lynnie! And yeah, there will be manure going into the poly. I must remember to pick some up rather than get over excited and remember too late :D I'm definitely thinking of root defeating strategies...
Hi Jessie. I really enjoyed this vlog. Could have watched more of your social event with the fellow TH-cam team. Nice to see Hannah. Love to see your Mum on the allotment. I don't think I've ever heard what her actual name is, except Mum x 😂 ❤

As I said before 😂 I’d move the entire poly since your dismantling everything anyway. It would be much better directly across the plot from where it is now. Lovely video, Ali 🥶🥶🇨🇦
Scotch bonnet is one of my favourites. Hot but not explosive. It grows really well from seed sown early March in uk. Great choice. I hope you enjoy a lovely harvest
Hi Jessie. Really enjoyed your video. Can I ask a question. What do you do with the old compost you dug out of your poly tunnel, especially as you had rats making tunnels in it?
Hi Julie, I'll return most of it to the poly once i've fixed it up, mixed in with some more organic matter and our own compost to give it some life back. It'll be out in the open for a few weeks being rained on first though. But generally i use the 'spent compost' as a 50/50 split for growing the potatoes and things the following year. And eventually is goes into the compost bin to be mixed in and bulk up our own. :D
Hi Mandy, no i never have. They are part-treated because they are sold as decking boards but i've never added to that. Our soil doesn't hold a huge amount of moisture, its so sandy and we (try to) keep the grass cut low around the edges so they don't stay too wet.
We should names the toads ( not the offspring obviously, that would be to much). Seems you had a blast with all the other famous vloggers, lovely and what a spectaculair kohlrabi, you need sunglases for those. Looking forward to the whole march sowing business..MARCH....how the hell we got there so fast...I need to do shit ! I feel like i´m so behind since it seems it only rained the past few months on the days that i´m not working. Lots of love from Belgium
Random question. The growlights you have int he background, do you have those set to "full spectrum" ? i.e. white, red and yellow LEDs on? Or just to white light?
Hi Jessie, for the first time this year I’ve had rats in my garden polytunnel and now I’m worried about growing in it. Is there anything required to disinfect the soil of rat urine etc? I’m a gardening noob so this may be a very silly question. 😊
Omg speaking of chaps, Survivor host used to say “come in in guys” every show until someone took offence to it 😅 there’s enough crap going on in the world to stop worrying about things like “guys, chaps, peeps etc” get over it chaps 🤦🏼♀️
Did you bump into Steve aka Digwell Greenfingers ? You’ve gotta my girlies when out otherwise they’ll strip the plot bare. Could you pleases put a link up for Hannah’s channel as I seem to have lost it since getting new phone - many thanks, see you in march when hopefully it gets warmer
Hi jess, great episode as usual. It's so lovely to see you so very excited about spring. You truly are an insperation... You also mentioned Discord. I've lost my link as I broke my phone, bropping it down the stairs, 😢boohoo... saddly, now I can't find my discord link. Can you send it to me again. I had an iPhone before, and now it is a samsung, which I am struggling to use... I wanted help from the group as I fail every year with my spring onions and was going to ask the group for suggestions , but I dont know what im doing wrong. Kindest regards. Kim
Hello jessica where can you buy the yellow tan boots that you wear in your videos they are very nice boots and are they steel toe capped thanks your a lovely genuine funny kind lady too.
Hi they are actually from Screwfix but the brand is Scruffs. Great boots, i'm on my 3rd pair. Yes they have aluminium caps and underplates so very safe but also very lights!
One of the joys of watching your videos Jessie, is that you don’t sell us stuff. Thank you so much for that. 😊🌻

It'll be out in the open for a few weeks being rained on first though. But generally i use the 'spent compost' as a 50/50 split for growing the potatoes and things the following year. And eventually is goes into the compost bin to be mixed in and bulk up our own. :D
@@JessieatPlot37 Great. Thanks for the info. 🙂
When do you plant your turnips please
Twisted my back digging from one side . Facet joint problem lost the power in one leg for a week. Slowly getting better.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery
Oh thats really crap, i'm sorry! Hope its coming good now!
chaps and chapesses :)
All the Chaps with all their S's :D
😂😂 poor Val, bless x
I know, poor love. maybe shes just a (very) late developer :D
Hi Jessie, do you ever paint the wood of your raised beds?
Hi Mandy, no i never have. They are part-treated because they are sold as decking boards but i've never added to that. Our soil doesn't hold a huge amount of moisture, its so sandy and we (try to) keep the grass cut low around the edges so they don't stay too wet.
Thanks Jessie 😊
We should names the toads ( not the offspring obviously, that would be to much). Seems you had a blast with all the other famous vloggers, lovely and what a spectaculair kohlrabi, you need sunglases for those. Looking forward to the whole march sowing business..MARCH....how the hell we got there so fast...I need to do shit ! I feel like i´m so behind since it seems it only rained the past few months on the days that i´m not working. Lots of love from Belgium
We should! And i know... March. How?! And i feel behind too Jessie.
I have just noticed the lovely Sydney Opera House stained glass on the door window…did you make it?😀
I didn't, but the girl who did made it for mum :D
Looks like JB had too much dizzy water 😂
Hahahha, he did :D
😂😂 hic JB, he'll be on the chilli shots next
Try meal worms grapes or cooked rice to attract your chucks. Works with ours
We have the meal worms and corn in the tin and they go crazy, its just a case of teaching them to run the length of the plot when the tin is shaken!
1:38 I'm dying to know, What was in your breakfast sandwich?
The one in the Cafe? It was Pancakes, Hashbrowns, Sausage, Bacon and a fried egg... and maple syrup hahaha!
@@JessieatPlot37 no, before you got on the train?
Random question. The growlights you have int he background, do you have those set to "full spectrum" ? i.e. white, red and yellow LEDs on? Or just to white light?
Just white. I have a full spectrum set but they flicker and drive me mad!
Absolutely Chaps!
Hi jess, great episode
as usual.
I wanted help from the group as
I fail every year with my spring onions and was going to ask the group for suggestions , but I dont know what im doing wrong.
Kindest regards. Kim
Kim, i'm an idiot, sorry! I resent you the link but to your Patreon address rather than your email. Resending now, so sorry!
You might want to hold your wine glass in the hand opposite your lav mic.
Ah, indeed.
Greetings,
Not to be daff, but what is the benefit of toad eggs(what did you call them?), other than the obvious reproduction?
Cheers
Having loads of toads is great - they eat slugs!
I suppose if you were like every other TH-camr and referred to us as "you guys" they'd understand?
Hahhaha, probably Julzs!
