    If you incorporate tip #6 --- working with other composers --- it can greatly help with tip #7 --- diversifying your portfolio.
    A fellow composer and I were recently tasked by a music library to do a hip hop dramedy album.
    I know little about hip hop, but my fellow composer does.
    He knows little about orchestration, but I do.
    Together, we were able to combine our talents and, as a result, diversify both of our portfolios.
    Frankly, this is an album I could not have done without co-writing.
    Your videos are top-notch.

    The first one is a mistake than even more establish composer can do. But i think it is more linked to insecurity.

      @@jonasfriedman It is hard because creation and music industry has a big part of ego as well. But learning new skills from someone with more experience or more skilled in a particular area is more beneficial than letting negativity or our ego guiding or actions. The main thing that I love with music is that there is always something new to learn and plenty of people to learn from!

    • @jonasfriedman
      @jonasfriedman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @hindymusic4880 totally agree and couldn't have said it better myself. I've been fortunate to meet and work with many wonderful and humble artists. However, some have had terribly inflated ego's. Regardless there was always a lot to learn, even when the lesson was how NOT to behave or do things, that's always equally valuable :)

    Hello, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I understand that diversifying your portfolio is a good idea when you're a beginner, but considering the enormous amount of film content we have today, I thought focusing and proving that you're an "expert" in just one or two styles would be the best option in the long run once you are no longer a beginner but someone with more experience. Normally when an industry becomes really large, specialization in different aspects becomes very important and demanded, this has been the case since the Industrial Revolution in all fields. See you!

    • @jonasfriedman
      @jonasfriedman  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m not just referring to diversifying your skill set outside of the style you’re most proficient at as a composer. Example building sample instruments, being an expert at midi programming, knowing how to do other tasks required in the production pipeline. diversifying these skills can get you in the door to build relationships, it’s not just about your style musically :)

    Another great video, Jonas, and I bet you could easily come up with another 5 for a part 3 🙂 Not seeing your fellow composers as competition has to be one of the most valuable for me in this one, especially when I consider the great composers we have in the 52 Cues community where everyone is so supportive and always willing to offer advice, encouragement and, many times, collaboration. Keep up the awesome work here, you've started something really valuable that I know will help a lot of people. All the best to you from here in Memphis TN 🙂

      I definitely could! I really appreciate your kind words about these videos. It's very rewarding to know that the information is helpful to people. It's great to hear about these other communities that support musicians and composers as well. I think it's a very fortunate time to be a musician due to how accessible information is becoming. Looking forward to sharing more with you in the coming videos.

    Your tips are really good and the attitude in terms of your real life examples like learning how to make Kontakt instruments to get your foot in the door probably apply to any job and not just composing.

    Hey Jonas, been following your channel since it started! Really love your content and the way you explain things.
    This may not be in your wheelhouse, or something you are interested in, but I would love to know if you've ever thought about making any videos on the topic of trailer music. I've personally been at it for a little less than a year, and find it's one of the most challenging genres in terms of production, and composition (as you must be incredibly effective with very minimal and simple material usually). Anyways, just thought I'd throw that out there. Would love to hear your thoughts on the genre if this is something you'd be interested in talking about and it fits the direction of your content. If not, no worries, keep the wonderful content coming! :)

    • @jonasfriedman
      @jonasfriedman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @brandonallen5566 - totally! If this is something people are interested in I’d be happy to. Earlier in my career I did a number of trailer tracks including writing on a trailer album for UMG (at least I think it was UMG - been a while!) so definitely in my wheelhouse and happy to explore. Thanks for being apart of our growing community and making this suggestion!

    Hey Jonas, also in part 2 everything you say makes perfect sense to me. For me, the topic of team spirit is particularly noteworthy. We all benefit from each other - especially when we show appreciation and gratitude for each other and don't take ourselves too seriously as individuals. Your videos are a real enrichment. A big thank you for them!
