Yes please. A wedge video! What the grinds and bounces are - how to you think about them differently - how would the bounce on your wedges influence which one you choose given the lie and the shot you want to make. All mine are ‘Versatile’ - 50, 54, 58. I do like them, but I only think about loft, and I suspect I’m missing something….
On it!!!!
Yes! Wedges, bounce, loft, grinds and different ball positions for differt shots... TY, Hannah
On it!
Love the idea of a wedge grind video. Keep up the great work.
On it!
Thank you for a helpful video.
I have subscribed.
A video for golfers with a swing speed of 65 to 75 miles per hour would be useful for some senior golfers.
eg. which hybrids & suitable lofts, also fairway woods & most suitable balls for seniors.
Thank you for subscribing 🙌🏻 I can definitely look at doing this, probably in the new year when the new gear is out!
@@hannahholdengolf Thank you . I will look out for the video.
I’ve done both. Hurried through a fitting for my Calloway irons and putter . Not doing it properly and letting the salesman basically just sell me whatever he wanted. Went back and got PXG wedges and putter with a proper fitting. Taking my time finding the right weight, length, loft and saw the improvement almost instantly . 3 putts way down, 1 putts way up. Wedges properly gapped. The game has become so much more enjoyable and itching daily to get back on the course
Nice video Hannah, one of my mates recently got fitted into the Titleist T150 irons, he used to play only 3 wedges 46 (Set PW), 52 and 58 but he realised that he would need an extra wedge since the T150 PW is 44 degrees and is very hot, he initially considered a 48 but after watching this video he went and tested a 46 and the gapping with it was perfect, so now he is playing Titleist Vokey SM10s in 46, 52 and 58 degrees.
oh nice! I do love a 46 feel like it gaps so well and is much easier to hit 3/4 shots with!
Another good video, hope you get to 20K subscribers quickly, you deserve it..
Thanks 🤩 I also hope i do!!
Hannah, would love a video on wedge grind.
Coming soon!
Lots of information and golfing history Hannah👍. A video on wedges would be useful, being quite new to golf I haven’t got my head around the wedge terms of grind and bounce and why there are so many lofts now.
Absolutely! I will sort a video on this
Great video Hannah .... I carry 9 to 10 clubs in my bag only and on occasions I'll carry 11 but that's an extra wedge depending on the course I play ... having fewer clubs makes choosing for your shots easier and as you say bag doesn't weigh as much since I do carry my bag .... keep up the great work
Love it! Defintely makes decision making so much easier!
Wedge grind vlog? Yes please.
I currently game 13 clubs on most days and use an electric trolley but when I go out for just a solo bounce game, I change to a carry bag and 7 clubs max. Its fun to try and improvise shots and reminds me of when I first started playing as a youngster.
Cheers
Yes! Having a half set for a few games really makes you be more creative!!
Hi Hannah, would you please consider doing a video about grind and bounce on wedges. It's rather nebulous on manufacturer's sites. They tell you what conditions the grind are best suited for (hard vs softer conditions) but what are the differences specifically. Regarding bounce, when is a higher bounce best utilized vs a cleaner sharper leading edge. I would be very interested. Thank you for your consideration.
Yes I will definitely do this!! Maybe when it is a tad less muddy 😅
I enjoyed this discussion. Thank you for continuing to discuss the philosophy of course management and equipment needs.
thank you!!
great advise hannah - i always note a lot of players have a 15* 3 wood and dont have the speed to launch it and would be better of getting a 5 or 7 wood
i love going out with a half set for practice
Totally! I’ve got a video lined up on this!!
Sorry to ruin the surprise
Great video, good diverse information. Keep it coming Hannah.
Thank you 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Yes yes yes please do a video on wedges, bounce and grinds. Thanks.
You got it!
Great video … very good point on bringing less clubs … could you deep dive more on this one? Just recently I removed my 5 iron (same as 9wood but more difficult) and 3wood … mostly same distance of 7 wood.
I would love to see a fairway wood episode. A few years ago, I remember you reviewed the Cobra LTDx line, which had quite small heads, but surprised you with their ease of use. Since then fairway woods have kept getting bigger. I do not believe that this works well out of any type of semi serious rough. This is not relevant for 3 wood, but is very important for club golfers for 5,7,9 woods. What balance to have at the top end of the bag, if you do carry 4 wedges, has also become more complicated and important.
Good point! New gear coming out soon so I will look into this for you!
Wow, you covered a lot of subjects there! Really informative. I was especially interested in the golf ball segment, as i now play TP5 and TP5X, as a senior with low swing speed. I based that decision on some analysis done by Golf WRX, I think, but EVERY other channel seems to say the TP5 is wrong for me!
Love the little giggles in your talking too, haha!
Yes I had to cut some out as it was getting too long 😂 you don’t realise how much you are talking when you are filming!!
You are definitely all good playing a TP5!!
Hi Hannah, great videos. Which microphone do you use on your videos? The sound is always nice and clear and I'm looking at getting something I can use.
I use the DJI 2 mics 😃
At my club we often have 3 clubs and a putter tournaments. At the end of the round people, often high handicapers comment how close and sometimes better their scores are when compared to their full set.
Great video Hannah, a question regarding golf balls, now the winter is here and the air is cold and damp, would you consider changing your golf ball to a "softer" model ? or should we just stay with the ball we usually🤔 use ???
@@tonyellis8761 I will move just because I think it is a waste of money using a tour ball in winter 😂 I drop from TP5 to tour response. I have moved from pro v1 to tour speed in the past too
Another no nonsense equipment video, a wedge video would be helpful.
I had a litter fit to find there was a number of things that benefited, length weight, face weighted illusory movement during putting well worth the effort. The k you Hannah
Thank you! Wedge video incoming
thanks for all the info...
Any time!
Just been to have my putter fitting , actually ended up keeping the spider , did have a new grip and an inch chopped off , also was advised to use something like a chrome soft , so let’s see how these new bits can help me lower my handicap
Nice!!!
@ wow massive eye opener 😍
Great history lesson. You would have been my favorite 8th grade history teacher. 🤣 Putter fitting and trying out zero torque putters would be my recommendation. I play anywhere from 11 to 13 clubs. Took out the gap wedge, then the 3w and 9w for a low maintenance set-up.
😂😂 don’t think I would have been a great history teacher unless it was all golf! Zero torque putters are definitely trending
As per the comments below Hannah, please do a video on the various grinds. I have never fully understood it, no matter who is explaining (I might be the common denominator there). For many years played a Vokey 60 with only 4 degrees of bounce, and it could perform magic on tight lies. Could never figure out if it was the club or I just learnt to hit it.
On it 🙌🏻 might wait until the ground isn’t quite so soft though 😂
Wedge guide please Hannah and great insight the history of golf clubs.
On it! And thanks 🤩
Since I have concentrated on bottom of bag my scores have improved I have Callaway CB 48 and Mackdaddy cb 52 and 56. Putter fitting is definitely something I am vonsidering
Nice choices! Putter fittings are great, do you have a brand in mind or going to try everything?
Not sure possibly Odyssey and going ai cruiser or square to square also tried centre shaft Cobra Agera. Will wait till Jan sales I think. Loving your content so far. I really hope it’s a big success for you
I use Dave Pelz's 3x4 system. I've recorded how far I carry my PW, GW, SW, and LW with half, 3/4, and full swings. So, assuming there aren't mitigating factors (lie, hazards, etc.), I have 12 distances to choose from.
Because the USGA and R&A are going to ban my use of a stand-up putter, I have had to switch back to a traditional putter. (I can continue to use my stand-up putter--a Bloodline--but I can't use it as it was designed, to stand it next to the ball and walk behind to see the line.) So....I went to PXG and got fitted for an Alan putter. It is the most accurate putter I've ever played. And because I'd gotten used to the heavier swing weight of the Bloodline (I used it for years), we added heavier screws to the Alan to get it feeling good.
I've gone back and forth between the tour ball and the almost-tour ball. The TP5 vs. the Tour Response, for example. I really can't tell much difference in performance. The TP5 is a bit shorter off the club, but it's tighter around the greens. Either way, I love using the stripe.
I hit my TM Mini almost as far as my recently-fitted driver. My total distance with the driver is 260 and my total with the Mini is 245-250. This has gotten more obvious as my swing speed has slowed with age. There will come a time (soon?) when the Mini is even longer than the traditional driver (PXG Black Ops).
I want every single club I have: Driver, Mini, 3-Hybrid, 4-iron through LW, and Putter. They're all gapped well and I use each and every one. If I had to lose one, it would be the LW, but I prefer it out of the sand. And as I said, there will soon be a time when the driver and the Mini are about the same in distance (with the Mini being WAY more accurate).
I don't care about weight. I used to when I carried all the time--I'd even play a light bag (the Sun Mountain 2.5). But a few years ago I got the MGI Zip Navigator. So, I still walk everywhere I'm allowed to, but now I have an electric trolley (with remote) doing my carrying for me. I can't tell you how liberating it is to walk down the fairway and not only NOT CARRY a bag, but not even having to PUSH one.
Hannah Holden, you continue to produce interesting videos. Thank you.
Wow you sound like you have a serious witb, i love it!
The Allan putter is really cool technology, I just got one to try so hopefully a video on that soon!
Tour response stripe is great, the tour response is a cool 'none tour' ball because it still has the urethane cover.
Which remote trolley did you go for?
@@hannahholdengolf I used to chase irons like mad, going through a set every year or so. It was expensive and silly. Then, 8 years ago, I switched to Wishon Sterling single-length. I'll never go back to variable-length clubs. I did upgrade when Wishon came out with the EQ1-NX to replace the Sterling, but that's it. My WITB travails (not travels) stopped.
I think the urethane-covered tier of balls--regardless of which brand--is best for most above-scratch golfers. The Tour Response, Q-Star, AVX, ERC, Snell Prime 3.0, etc.).
About 4 years ago I purchased the MGI Zip Navigator. I opted for the remote version, but I didn't want the "follow" feature. It's been great, especially in the Phoenix, Arizona heat. It can get above 100 degrees (38 Celsius) and I can still walk 9 holes with it. (I'm 65, so 18 holes is a bit of a stretch in the heat.)
Great video
Thanks! 🤩
❇️ High compression golf ⛳️ balls like ProV1 etc require high swing speed > around the greens the ProVs are fantastic but if you are not hitting the tee shot and second shot good enough you are better off with a low compression golf ⛳️ ball ✅
This isn’t quite true, as I said TP5 only needs 60mph. Pro V1 would be similar, firmer X models are more but not as much as you think. Left dash would need fastest speed!
Great video! A video on wedge grinds would be really helpful.
Thanks! And okay I’m on it 🙌🏻
Cool little golf history lesson, thanks Hannah 🤓
Glad you enjoyed it!
Helpful and informative... I just wonder if all club fittings are unbiased my expis that you are directed to a certain brand which may or natnot be ideal
I always try go to a fitting centre that sticks multiple brands so doesn’t have a bias. You can always go to see a manufacturer afterwards if you then pick what you want
Wow, so much in that video. I have 14 clubs, never play with more than 12, 5i/3h swop around, usually drop one of the specialist wedges out, depending type of course. In fact won our club comp (3 clubs +putter with 3 hybrid, 7 iron, and PW. 36 points). As you said, less decisions to make.
Wow, love that 3 club set up! Some scoring with them 🙌🏻
Great work good advice and excellent food for thought. Making me evaluate my current setup. Thank you. C’mon people subscribe.
Glad it was helpful!
Cool new video style!
Thanks!
I actually dropped a 19 degree hybrid for a wedge. I have a 50 degree gap wedge but also own a 52 degree wedge. The 52 has all kinds of milling that will give me a soft spinning ball when it lands, the 50 is for when I want to hit a ball that will run some after it lands both will give me a 100 yard club but will react differently on the course.
Love that you have multiple options for the same yardage!
A video explaining grind and bounce would be great!
Coming soon!
Excellent info ... You’re looking quite posh, too, Hannah! 👍🏽
Thanks! Don’t get told I’m posh very often 😅
Actually, except for the addition of the lob wedge, which is higher in loft than traditional sand wedges, the lofts at the bottom of our bags aren't all that different. We just give them different names. Standard 52 degree gap wedges are the same loft as old pitching wedges. Pitching wedges are now so strong, almost traditional 8 iron in strength, that we could probably do with 2 wedges between pitching wedge and sand wedge. Most sets stretch loft gaps to 5 or 6 degrees to cover that range instead, and/or strengthen to sand wedge to 54 or 55 degrees instead of 56, since a 58 degree lob wedge works really well out of sand as well, if it has enough bounce.
That is a good point about the names!
@@hannahholdengolf It doesn't matter so much to people young enough to have played almost all their golf in this century. But to those of us old enough to remember Nicklaus-Player-Trevino etc in their primes, it does matter. We need to constantly remind ourselves that the pitching wedge or 7 iron in our hands now do not behave like the pitching wedge or 7 iron we learned on. We have to remember they are 1-2 clubs different, and adjust our club selection accordingly.
I also think it's cool for people to hear a little history, but I recognize that some people aren't particularly interested. Hopefully, I don't bother them too much. :)
Enjoying your vids.Funny tho;around here, everybody gets the same recommendations for putters and balls,no matter their game.Bettinardi,Scotty, and Pro V1..
Really?! Where is around here?
I would like to see the 14 max club rule updated and increased to 16 clubs , the rule was changed back in the 1930's and back then with the ball and clubs they played the average recreational golfer probably only drove the ball 180-200 yards and with 14 clubs the gaps are easily filled now these days I see recreational golfers hitting it 300 yards ( the younger athletic type or even me at 63 hitting it 260 - 275 yds ) it would be nice to have a few extra options some people might want a chipper , a high lofted extra wedge , 2 drivers , one more forgiving for those days you need the help , a long iron if you normally carry a hybrid or 7 wood a left-handed iron or a club to hit out of stoney areas so you don't wreck your iron to the set and I am sure the Golf club manufacturers would love the help in sales.
Interesting! Club golfers aren’t rapidly getting better like tour pros so you could have an argument for this.
D, 10 irons and putter for me. I add a 3W when playing a match. Nice outfit ya got there by the way.
Cool set up! Whats the longest iron?
@@hannahholdengolf An 18.5 degree 4-iron. They are Ping 710 de-lofted to pro spec.
Great content Hannah, quick question what is your handicap please
Pros don't have handicaps. As an amateur, she was +3 at least.
I’m off +2 currently 😃
Best golf ball is the one you can find in the rough - Duo Optix red and orange save me a few shots!
😅😅 good point
We'll take a wedge video. Thanks.
On it!
I’m looking to reduce my bag next year, down to 10.
Nice 🙌🏻 what’s going
And here I am being a weekend warrior with 4 wedges that just have 5* gapping and hoping that I don't chunk or blade each of them.
44* Pw, 49* Gw, 54* Sw and a scary 60* Lw.
I carry 9 clubs, 23* hybrid and 6-SW + P.
Love it 🙌🏻🙌🏻
The purpose of getting a good fitting for clubs for me is to obviously get the right spec for my swing and speed etc but also psychologically to remove the “blame the club” for the bad shot stuff. Not saying that the well fitted club will last forever as there are lots of variables in play but for the time it’s in the bag, it’s never the clubs fault.
Also as an aside, I’m glad the 14 club limit is in place purely for affordability and therefore fairness. Imagine ‘that player’ with 2 different drivers for draw and fade, mini driver, 3,5,7 & 9 wood, 3 hybrids plus all the wedges down to 64* … you would definitely get them.
Yes that’s a great point! Gives you great piece of mind to hit the shot
Slight math correction. 1-9 irons, + 4 woods + a wedge + a putter = 15! It's OK. I know you didn't mean to do that. What was actually happening, as I understand it, was players went one of three ways. Driver-Brassie-Spoon in their woods, 1-9 in their irons, one of those fancy flanged niblicks that Gene Sarazen was popularizing, and a putter, (which was sometimes numbered 10 in some sets, especially if someone didn't carry a wedge).
Or, if they didn't like the driving iron, they'd drop that, start their irons with the midiron (or #2) in numbered sets, and carry a 4th wood, which was easier to hit than a driving iron and filled the distance gap between spoon and midiron better. Some called that 4th wood a cleek, some called it a 4 spoon as woods got numbered as well, but increasingly people just called it a 4 wood.
Or someone might not carry one of those funny wedge things, and just carry 4 traditional play clubs (woods) and 10 traditional green clubs (irons), putter included. This became less common, though, partly because of the increasing popularity of the wedge, and partly because those truly skilled enough to hit a driving iron were also generally skilled enough to hit it almost as far as a cleek, so why bother carrying both? This of course assumed that players were self aware enough to know whether they could really hit a driving iron, or whether they were carrying it because they thought they could hit it. But we all know golfers never carry clubs they can't hit just because they think they can, right?😉
Ooops 😅😅😅 bad maths!!!
@@hannahholdengolf More like thinking about all those traditional 4 wood 9 iron/wedge sets our parents/grandparents had in the 50s and 60's. I know that's what I grew up thinking a "proper" golf set looked like, having been born in '61. The images get burned into our brains. The point is that you were essentially right in what a set looked like. You were just one club off in total, that's all.
what do you consider the most essential clubs if you don't want to carry 14 clubs?
Good question here is my basic version:
Putter
56 degree wedge
PW
8 iron
7iron/hybrid
7 wood
5 wood
Driver
❤
Yes wedges please...
Playing golf Take each hole at a time, course management is key, as an amateur take half a bag, know your yardages, you don't need 14 clubs, most amateurs only use half of their clubs, im a 23 handicap and par 5 and par 4 I can use driver hybrid and either chipper or wedge and obviously putter.
And that's really 4 clubs on 12 holes so why amateurs take 14 clubs.
Next time you play writing diwn what yiu used on each hole on your scorecard will give you an idea of what you actually use throughout your round.
Simple logic.
The number of clubs were decreased as the authorities were concerned about de-skilling the game. How about if players were only allowed one wedge? Then they have to play different shots with that wedge...
That would be cool to see how people got on! Might be a nightmare for full swing gapping 😅😅
@@hannahholdengolf I'll bet Seve didn't have trouble using different swings to make the ball go different distances.
Ha, speak for yourself. I’m not playing in any tournaments. I’ll carry my 17 clubs and be happy that.
😂😂😂 love it
I want to see those caddies earn their keep. 50 clubs at all times I say.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Deskilling the game?!?!? lol…
You would think being able to play 31 clubs is a skill Cuz good lorn I couldn’t remember what the hell to do with 31 different clubs 😂😂😂😂
10.5 44.5" driver (thinking about going even shorter), 3h, 5h, 7 wood, 5-9i. pw, aw, sw, putter!
Driver length is interesting! I think average on tour is about 43.5 much shorter than stock!!
@hannahholdengolf I'm already not the tallest, so the 45 and 3/4" drivers are just way too long for me. I think the vast majority of golfers could improve their driver by shortening the shaft. IMO.
