In high school I had to interview someone that either served in ww2 or a family member that grew up just after. My grandparents had a friend that was in a bomber plane that went down and he was put into a concentration camp. He escaped two weeks before the end of the war. He took time out of his day to speak to me about his story and even gave me a letter saying thank you for listening to his story. I found out sadly he passed away last year. I'm very grateful to have heard a story from a soldier that was in ww2 with my own ears

Hellhound Hobo, My great grand uncle was the Rear Admiral of the American fleet. I also have a great great great great grandfather or something like that many times grand. Who was a conscripted German soldier that killed his platoon with a gernade and then retreated and joined the American army. He eventually became a Colonel.

This is one of my favorite stories, Stephen Siller of who the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is named for: “On September 11, 2001, Stephen, who was assigned to Brooklyn’s Squad 1, had just finished his shift and was on his way to play golf with his brothers when he got word over his scanner of a plane hitting the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Upon hearing the news, Stephen called his wife Sally and asked her to tell his brothers he would catch up with them later. He returned to Squad 1 to get his gear.
Stephen drove his truck to the entrance of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, but it had already been closed for security purposes. Determined to carry out his duty, he strapped 60 lbs. of gear to his back, and raced on foot through the tunnel to the Twin Towers, where he gave up his life while saving others.”

As a History student, I have a few comments:
0.50 - You glorify their travel to Auschwitz, there were dozens stuffed into each cart, not a few people...
1.05 - Once again, they did not look like that and they certainly weren't given tools. This video is like the movie 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' where the producers made the actors so glorious compared to what was actually the reality of camp welfare.
1.52 - 2 per cell? A cell?? They had wooden barracks with 100s in them...

It's all for them and for us too. A fair victory for us all~

The youngest person to have escaped Auschwitz lived in my hometown oh Highland Park, New Jersey. Her name was Tova Friedman. The first thing she says when she meets someone is “I am a Holocaust survivor”. Why should one not be proud of that?It is very inspirational to hear about people who go out of their way to do what is right. Acceptance is the best way to run a nation; not the degradation of an innocent group of people. When the whole world turns against itself, it cripples. Although many ordinary righteous people have made efforts to save victims of genocide, my previous sentence proves why it would be in the best interest of people with political power to stop the disease of hatred. Every culture is unique, and it is never okay to spread lies/propaganda about people, especially those who have helped a nation grow and/or supports it from the bottom.

I can guess the man I will write about now could be called a hero:
In the war my grandma was in some undisclosed area in germany, she never told me where, and was walking to another village on foot with another man.
As they walked this man must've heard the american planes flying above their heads. He grabbed her and threw her into a nearby ditch climbing on top of her and shielded her with his body.
These american pilots than shot at them, my grandma survived unhurt, that man died. I would not be alive today if this random stranger would've done otherwise.

My wife;s father escaped the camp with his father and mother ( he was about 4, so, actually, its his father who escaped) they paid someone to guide them trough the minefield, ended up fighting as partisans in the forest of Hungary and received letters and documents from the President of Hungary at the end of the war thanking them. They were Jewish Hungarians. Changed their name into a German name to facilitate escape, and my wife still has her German name, her father never changed it back by fear of future persecution of jews. They changed their religion for catholic as well. My wife is Atheist. the majority of her family died in camps and trough resistence fighting outside.

My Italian grandparents lost many friends in executions and deportations during the occupation (yes, despite the popular joke about Italy changing sides, many Italians hated fascism). Mostly were partisans or guerrilla supporters.
12 million victims. 6 million Jews from all over Europe, 2 million Russians, several thousands of Serbs, Slovenian, Slovaks, Poles and other slaves massacred. And there are people who dare to deny the Holocaust.
