I have been working on Power Platform for 6 yrs now . Never thought I would be able to learn Model driven with just one video. Excellent Work Shane !! .
Get things "sunk" back up. :D Thanks Shane. I like Lisa Crosbie for the full on class but this is exactly what I wanted today. For example, now I know about adding a canvas app to a model driven one. The details aren't important, I hope, just that it can be done!
As someone who has worked with Dynamics 365 since Micrsoft CRM 4.0, I may be a little biased when I say model driven apps are amazing for no-code. It's a great way to give your data a front-end which requires little work to get up and running. No need to worry about the visual aspects of the app - it's all done for you. It's a consistent look and feel and when used in conjunction with D365 apps, it's a great way to extend the application(s). After all, that's why it exists.
I was trying to learn model driven apps for past 2 months and it is your video that gives me the kind of understanding I need to start with. You make is to easy to understand which functionality is for what use and how should we approach it. Its like laying a blueprint foundation before getting lost into the details of each feature. Thanks a lot and keep up with the amazing work.
Just what I wanted and just as I needed it. Thank you! Project for the web accelerator uses a model driven app and dataverse tables so I expect this to start popping up in other places too soon.
Sending you best wishes re your recent sad news on Chewy, Shane. Hope the good memories will soon overtake the grief. Hope you take some time out to gather yourself, too. Will be waiting for your excellent tutorage when you come back.
Not sure if you've covered it in another video, but it's good to note that you can reference those table views in canvas apps. It helps when you have complex filters or when you use the same set of filters in multiple cases.
Hi Shayne, I have enjoyed every bit of this, I would love to know why my image isn't displaying after adding to the form..it shows as a broken file and I'm unable to find my way around it

Hi Shane, thank you for your great video about model driven app. I have a question , Whether can set records for some people can only view, some people can edit in model driven apps. For example, the creator can edit, others can only view
Yes, I don't have a video on it but we absolutely do that type of stuff. Dataverse has a great security model. We do teach it in the Model-driven and Dataverse class. training.powerapps911.com/courses/Model-Driven-201
Being so used to, and in love with canvas, I really detest model-driven, it's just yucky. Glad to see you made a video on this topic Shane, watching with eyes+ears wide open!
Hi Shane. I'm trying to add data to a table I've created (first time) and I can't add anything in my primary column. It seems to be system generated as soon as I add data to another column in the row, and it is a 36 character alphanumeric code. What I think I need to do is ignore the primary column (essentially call it systemID), and then build my table from there. Thoughts?
Hey Shane, I am a big fan of you in the power platform conference last year..I've been following your tutorials on creating Model-Driven Apps and I'm currently developing an ERP system using this platform. I've found your videos incredibly helpful and informative. However, as I delve deeper into the project, I'm starting to have some concerns about the potential costs associated with Dataverse storage. I understand that 1 GB of storage is currently priced at $40 per month, but I'm struggling to grasp how much data that actually represents in practical terms, especially when considering storing invoices and receipts data (not documents), and other relevant information for an entire ERP system. I would greatly appreciate your insights on data usage and cost optimization and tips and I'm particularly interested in your opinion on whether proceeding with Model-Driven Apps for my ERP is the most cost-effective and efficient solution in the long run. Thank you for your time and expertise. I look forward to hearing from you.
Hi Shane, Thanks a lot for sharing this video. I have tried to follow your instructions, but ran against an issue of being unable to create tables. I seem to have limited rights to do that. Can you advise what rights I need to get to be able to create model-driven power app including tables and other elements needed? Thanks
Ah I'm gonna have to wait a day or two to watch this but very excited. Tried to get a dataverse driven app going last month but due to time constraints bodged a simpler (that I already understood) solution.
Thank for the video! Quick question. We already use a Low-Code platform that is built on top of a SQL Server database so our data-model already exists. Would you recommend building canvas apps on top of this already existing data model using the SQL Server connector or rebuild the model in Dataverse and use a model-driven approach? Let me also add that I am a SQL Developer with some front end web dev experience and our apps need to be mostly mobile. Thanks!
Mike if you are already a SQL rockstar then I don't see the harm in building canvas apps connected to your existing SQL. :) Learn one thing at a time. Dataverse is awesome but SQL is pretty good also. Both require premium licensing.
@@ShanesCows Thank you Shane! I will start going down the canvas app path. From what I've seen the interface is more customizable with a canvas app so there is another win!

Brilliant! To me, it looks like you could create your own ERP system with this. But how would you import all the data from an old legacy system? To me it seems practical if you could import from AD/Delve but I have not seen any examples of that, would you recommend doing something else?
Thanks for great video Shane! I didn't even realize it was 40 mins long. About Dataverse, I quickly took a look at the subscription cost - Per user plan is $20/person & Each person gets ~250 MB .... Seems sort of expensive. Am I missing something?

Yes, if you have all of the Dataverse tables done this would be a stellar approach. And easy to build and test to see if you like it or not.

Always wondering why I don't develop a model driven app but a canvas app for the client. You have a system to choose between these two options Shane?
Licensing first. Capabilities and customization also go in. But if a model app can do what they want it should probably be the choice.

Yes, it isn't until you share them and someone tries to use them do you need a licnese.
