Could missiles even intercept the meteor fragments though? I'm no expert but I think that's the reason for the super rail guns of "Stonehenge", being the only weapon that combined with the super computers being feed data by I imagine any satellites or observation devices not hit by the fragments could shoot projectiles fast enough to intercept them while being able to pack enough punch to destroy the rocks.

It did give me a bit of existential dread when I actually made the connection between Stonehenge and an asteroid impact, I was about 8 and not completely focused on the story yet. 4 will probably always be my favorite of the series for the nostalgia but 5 and Zero are absolutely fantastic.

Stonehenge was built waaay out in the desert where the sonic shocks of its guns firing wouldn't damage civilian infrastructure. It's a stupid, stupid oversight, but I can absolutely see some sleep-deprived coder frantically working on the largest air defense system in human history, knowing that basically all civilization on the continent depended on him, just forgetting to account for one particular patch of otherwise empty desert.
Even then, hitting that one particular power generator, just as it was about to discharge, is a one-in-a-million catastrophe. Murphey's law still holds: If something CAN go wrong, it WILL go wrong and probably at the worst possible time, in the worst possible way.

I've got a theory: Stonehenge reloads from the back of the gun and the feeding mechanism is on the back of the cannon in the round disc on which the cannon stands. That's why we see the gun pointing straight up so often, because it needs to move to vertical position to reload.

So the number 3 turret was the one that was non operational at the time of Ace Combat 4 when ISAF sent Mobius 1 and other squadrons to destroy Stonehenge. Therefore that turret survived the attack and would later be repaired prior to Ace Combat 7, where it fires one last shot in order to shoot down one of the Arsenal Birds before collapsing.

I think the most terrifying thing about this is the fact how easily this could be us. If anything this history could become us down the line since we have almost no known way of dealing with foreign objects entering our atmo. We have even had a few close calls if I am remembering right, but still, its scary to think about what could happen to our planet in this kind of situation.
