man the 90's was shit crazy for football, the war of the 49ers and cowboys, the rise of favre and the packers, the Elway show of the broncos, and the dominant dolphins.
I say that Brett Favre is the best there ever was. If he was on the field, regardless of the score, the Pack had a chance to win. You could feel it. And he delivered time and time again. He made everyone around him play better, and refuse to quit. I think his greatest play, was vs Denver in OT 2008 (I think '08). They have the ball on their 20, 1st snap in OT. Denver is in a "Tampa 2" defense with the safeties pinched to the inside of the field. He audibles BY LOOKING AT GREG JENNINGS! Everyone else was running the called play. Jennings looked at Favre before the snap and they both knew what to do: Jennings does a fly route down the left side of the field, Favre airs it out... perfect throw, 80 yard TD, game over. Packers win 19 Denver 13 in OT. That was greatness! They showed the play in the video but cut the pre-snap look. @@docsylva2876

I think that Moss was being sarcastic. Not that he didn't have respect for Farve, but I believe that he was being a smart ass. He was on the opposing team, he couldn't really show too much admiration. I also believe that he was happy to have Farve as a teammate.

Til the day I die I'll never forget that Monday night game in Oakland. Sitting there and watching that man play the way that he did under the despair and sorrow of losing his father was probably the most inspirational moment in football.
I agree 100%. He torched the HELL out of the Raiders secondary that night. Warner in 1999 was scary too. Tons of big plays that year

One thing I remember about watching Favre, and his throwing power, is that the cameraman had trouble keeping up sometimes.

It's too bad about the neck injury. Just 2-3 more years, and S. Sharpe would have had nearly every receiving record for the Packers. Especially, with B. Favre throwing to him.

Easily the best receiver Favre has ever had. Blazing speed, excellent route running, and amazing catching ability. In his playing days he made his brother Shannon look like a bum. Even Shannon will tell you that.

Farve played mostly like crap. Until his first hit in every game. Once he got hit it was a different story. I remember just waiting for that first hit in every game, so he'd start playing.

There is one quality Favre has had that no other great QB in NFL history will ever have: Exciting unpredictability. When you watch Brady, Manning, Montana, etc. they’re amazing but 80-90% of the time you went into the game with the mindset of they’re probably gonna win. With Favre you didn’t know what you were gonna get. He would single handedly win games he and his team had no business being in and lose games he and the Packers should have dominated. It always came down to him too: He would throw that winning TD between 4 defenders or throw that horrible pick right to one. Favre was the mystery box of NFL greats, and it was exciting to watch because you never knew what you were gonna get. Even when he lost or performed bad, the majority of the games were still exciting.
I remember him winding back to throw and flinging the ball 15 yards behind him quite regularly at bad times. Lol

Sharpe is the Terrelle Davis of wide receivers, and like Terrelle Davis, I think he should be in Canton.

I had a hard time with that nfc title loss to the giants in 07. It was one of the most heart breaking losses, because if anyone deserved one more ring it was that guy.

The loss to the Saints in ‘09 was pretty bad too.

It's also important to realize the most important difference between Rice and Sharpe. Rice was drafted by a SB winning team and played with 2 of the most accurate QB's of all time. When Sharpe was drafted by the Packers, Green Bay was considered the wasteland of the NFL and their QB situation was a mess.

I grew up where he lives in MS. This guy used to drink a case a beer all night on Friday then step on the field and torch teams like Alabama with USM. Absolute legend.
The thing with Brett was you could always count on him no matter what...as a teammate, coach, or fan, no matter what the injury or circumstance, the man would be there. Toughest and most dependable player in modern times.
As a Packers fan, I really felt that “Time cures all wounds” line.
The only packer game i went to was the Packer Home game on 11/1/09 when Favre came in in purple. I have to say looking back, those years sucked hard, but man is it hard to hate the guy.

We committed to our new guy but Brettt wanted to be a starter so we sent him to the Jets. Then Brett got petty and went to the Vikings to beat the Packers in retribution. That's why we hated him chief.

Given how he had no history of being difficult or a boat rocker up to that point, it's my belief he was told in so many words Aaron would get the nod and his initial reaction was to retire because he couldn't see himself playing anywhere else. Then he changed his mind and took it as "if they're going to shit on me, F em." After a stint with the Jets, he wanted revenge for casting him aside. Regardless if that's what happened or not, he didn't owe the fans anything. GB fans owed HIM. Petty reaction. Should have given him the benefit of the doubt knowing his history.

Favre is my first memory of a truly great quarterback. I remember learning the game of football and Favre was the guy who taught me through the screen. So much appreciation and respect for him, he’ll always be my favorite QB.

His first season with the Vikings was the most fun (and, in the end, most heartbreaking) period of time I have ever had, and probably *will* ever have, as a football fan.

His numbers are stupid. Statistically speaking only 3 or 4 guys are better, but that is because they play the game in a pass happy era. He accumulated a lot of his stats during an era of football that was dominated by the run.

I dont understand the logic in that saying. Montana played in an era that was dominated by running teams but Montana threw the ball more any other qb. Same with Marino, Elway and the chargers qb Fouts. They threw more than any other qb's in the league, so to say that it's a pass HAPPY league today without saying that those qb's of another era were also pass HAPPY is to discredit everyone who isn't your guy.
@AnEn had Marino, Montana or Elway played as many season as farve, their numbers would be high as well. So much love for farve is on the regular season stats, look at his playoff stats/wins/losses/td's-int's compared to other qb's and then tell me where does he rank.

You don't accumulate 300+ yrds by only passing less than 25x a game, that west coast system was pass happy, and statistically speaking isn't Brees ahead of farve in everything, while playing against other pass happy qb's. I simply said that farve had many seasons of 500 passing attempts while Elway, Marino did not attempt that many, either you or the other guy who argue Favre's stats say that the qb's now play in a pass happy league but you leave out that farve threw the ball more than his counterparts. In Favre's 3 mvp seasons, what other qb threw the ball as much as he did, so who played in a pass happy era? As a 49ers fan who grew up watching Favre crush our dreams in the 90's on several occasions... all I can say is how happy I am that I got to watch this man play football. Mad respect.

I know it's not quite a perfect fit but I think Favre was very much in the mold of Kenny Stabler. Both were guys who were gunslingers and could be streaky as hell. Favre is the last of the rugged individualistic QBs IMO.

I wouldn't call their style "the same." Great as Rodgers is, he seems very protective of his stats and rarely takes chances with the ball.

It's not about just the stats or the rings, its about the story. Nobodys career told a better story than Brett, it's not even close. Nobody gave you more emotion and more feeling watching them play. The game of football hasn't been the same since he retired and it never will be. The last true gridiron warrior at the position and the best.

Naw. Packers were shit until Mackowski and Favre turned it around. 30 years of losing. Favre led them to back to back Super Bowls, a Super Bowl win and many winning seasons. Packers screwed up by not giving him elite players. Same thing they are doing to Aaron Rodgers. I'd take winning and having a chance to win a playoff game to never making it to the playoffs at all.
