Why are more vets not using laser therapy to fix CCL tears? My local vet offered this for my dog and he is doing great with it. He tore both back legs within 6 months of each other and both had laser therapy done on them. 3 years later he is still doing fine and is very active.

Thanks for the question. I shot a few vets the question and the responses I received were all in the same line as the laser hasn't been proven to be effective on full tears yet. They say Class 4 laser therapy works great and is recommended for partial tears or sprains/strains but if it was effective on full tears then the surgical options wouldn't continue to be discussed. One vet said he has actually tried utilizing the laser more often but its apparently a tough sell for the average owner to come in multiple times a week for treatment being charged every visit. So the laser is most often used during post op or alternative physical therapy.
