Thanks for actually talking about tube life spans! All other youtubers were just talking about the panic buy factor. Your kind of video is a lot more level headed and less likely to cause panic. Good job.
Thanks buddy I think it’s really important to know ,especially for guys that maybe buying their first tube amp ,there’s so many scary stories as it is ,I felt that this was an extra reason to not buy what could be the best amp someone ever had
@@NinecoreNeil Tube AMPs are so rewarding to play through, that even if I thought it would only last a few years and then go in the bin, I'd still be tempted to get one :) Just a mini though lol
I bought a Vox AC30C2 back in 2014. 3 months after I bought it, I replaced all of the tubes/valves with NOS stuff from the 60's that I got from a very good friend. Those tubes/valves are still going strong. I only play at home and almost never really push my amps hard. The tubes/valves in my 50w EVH head will probably outlive me. I myself am not too concerned about a potential shortage of supply.
I will say this, the Super Crush does a really good job of taking the tube Rockerverb circuit and using modern jfet transistors to mimic tube response. It's been tried in the past, but I'm at least open to seeing what a 2020s version of a solid state tube replacement can do.
Probably the only time I wish I used digital, having being the benefactor in this situation. I love tube amps but I kind of saw this coming and glad I have an extra set for my peavey 6505+ and 5150 🤘🏻 hope things get better soon.
The paint on a house should exceed 300 years. And is just on there for looks. Just like tubes in a amp. If they work who cares about what they sound like...
No one is talking about the fact that factories can be built in other countries... And if tubes are dead now - I have to remember that vinyl records were dead, too...
Everybody needs to calm down. Tubes/valves last for years! I literally gigged a JCM 800 on one set of tubes through the 80’s. Again with 5150 during the 90’s. My EVH heads have only been retubed once in 10 years. Keep Calm and Riff Hard 🤘
I've been researching tube amps for bedroom use for the last month or so. I was excited to get the evh 5150iii lbx stealth, I'm ready to buy but now very hesitant. Should I still buy one? Or will it cost to much if something does go wrong with it.
Mate, just run it on low power. If you're only using it a few times a week for a few hours here and there, they should last quite a while! I just got a peavey 6505, running it on low power in the bedroom. I don't regret a thing, even if the tubes go up in price. I shouldn't need any new tubes for a few years. While I do think plugins are amazing these days (Neural & STL stuff), you just cannot beat true valve power coming through a Celestion speaker cab! It makes me excited just thinking about it lol
I have a 1996 Peavey 5150 2x12. It still has the same tubes that were installed at the factory. I bought the amp used but in near-mint condition about 3 years ago. I tested the tubes when I bought the amp and haven't worried about them since. I also have the EVH LBX1. Go for the Stealth my friend. You'll rarely have a tube issue but you WILL have tons of fun with it!
Well, personally, I've been trying to get an amp for a long time. On Christmas 2021 I got a Marshall DSL100HR, new, from Thomann, for less then 500€, but the amp had an issue and I had to send it back. There was no more stock for that amp and right after getting my money back, I ordered an EVH 5150 Iconic and it has been delayed several times. Checking other Chinese made amps, I noticed that they're out of stock and it would take several weeks to get them. I got fed up with it, canceled the order and ordered an Engl Fireball 25 as supposedly it would only take about 2 to 3 weeks to get in stock. I figured that since this is a German made amp, maybe the situation would be different. Well, that didn't go well... It got delayed even further then the Iconic. 😤
Yes all amps delayed mate,I featured some of this comment in my upcoming your ‘comments answered’ For some reason only half of your comment was showing bit still worth a watch 👍
I will watch mate. 😊 Just to update the situation, the fireball 25 limited edition is still showing as 2 to 3 weeks to get in stock, so I ordered it too. I plan to keep the first one that gets in stock, but I would not be surprised at all if the limited edition gets delayed for around the same time as the regular fireball 25. Oh well... 🥲
@@BrunoGomes666 I’m not a huge fireball fan they feel nice and play nice but in a band situation they seem too compressed for my tastes the pball2 and savage are better for me
@@NinecoreNeil I too prefer the savage and powerball 2, but from what I hear, the fireball 25 sounds a little different from the 100. The 25 compared with the ironball also seems to have more balls (pun intended 😂). But, I must confess I'm an EMG guy. I love the compressed and "more even/balanced" sound. Maybe that's why the fireball sounds good to me? 🤔
I’ve done quite a bit of research about how long tubes at last and I’ve gotten anywhere from 5000 to 10,000 hours. But the average guitar player practice is five hours per week, that still gives them 1000 weeks for tube life.
@@NinecoreNeil I only did it because I had a bad preamp tube but I heard Mullard tubes sound great in an EVH 5150. There right! There’s a work of difference. Same tone but more lower end thump!
I can see a band that uses all tube amps waiting outside of guitar center and mugging some nerd who just bought a 1X10 tube combo for his jazz trio. LOL
So.......who's shopping for a QuadCortex now? lol I'd get one if I could plug it into my existing cab, but to use IRs properly you need an FRFR speaker and they ain't cheap!!!

I have 11 cherished tube amps and enough tubes & spares to last a lifetime. I also have a Helix and a Fractal that I use for effects as well as having a "backup" to go direct to the board if my amp(s) ever go down at a gig. I sometimes use the digital units during practice to go direct and they honestly suck in comparison. Been playing for 40 years...if you cannot tell the difference between your digital units and a tube amp...then go digital. There's no point for you. Think about it though...why are 99% of today's pro guitarists still using tube amps? To give their staff something to do? Habit? Because it looks neato on-stage? Amps aren't going away...getting more expensive? Now that's a different story...
I like that boom and attack behind me myself out front Sometimes direct from digital stuff works well depends on the sound guy,but if your after sounding great onstage for your own buzz and enjoyment you can’t beat tubes imo
just a fake, most german tube resellers will not sell tubes anymore the quantities and prices they get for new orders are so ridiculous that noone will be willing to buy tubes anymore. the tube is dead for us as guitar geeks but anaolg stuff has really improved much and further will be so lets wait this must not be a bad thing at all so stocking up on tubes is a very smart thing but just too late now for some people 👌

Is it truth that using the gain and volume loud causes more wear on the tubes?
