Couple of clarifications: 1. Regarding kits from 3rd party retailers, the discount will be applied as a credit to your Starlink account. You'll pay the regular price through the retailer. When you activate on the Starlink website for an eligible service address, you'll get that $200 credit on your next bill. 2. Regarding changing your service address, you can still change to an address that is eligible for the promotion, and you won't lose that $200 discount. It's only if you change from an eligible address to an ineligible address that you would be billed for the credit.
Not available in WV, the discount isn't offered. I'm not thrilled about this. I've been waiting forever to get it and it's my only option. Im a single mother. Super expensive to start. Come on star link. WV please.
I live on a reservation, gotta rely on the tribes internet. Just got my starlink a week ago and holy shit is this thing amazing. An got the discount. Very happy with this. Best internet where I’m from. Only downside was the shipping. My starlink wasn’t shipped with the greatest protection.
starlink is being bayass here, as a mother you shouldn't love one of your kid more than others. but starlink thus that by loving some countries more than others. soon they will get competitors
It's not really bias, I don't live in one of those areas either but, you need to understand how governments work. This isn't really a situation where you love one kid more than the other.
Bummer we currently live in Maine the correct area at this time and will be moving to Arizona at some point which is also eligible, But the new location will not have a legal address for several months once we are there. And I was hoping I could just transfer later on. Buy it here in Maine get it all setup and working before we move down there. I work remotely so I will be needing something like this and was hoping to get the cheaper price when I pull the trigger. I guess time will tell.
You don’t need a legal address to buy it or to use it at the new house. You can use Google plus codes or coordinates to approximate the location on the Starlink map. It doesn’t have to be super accurate, within a mile or so would work fine! What I would do is open Google maps, go to satellite view and find where your house will be built. Drop a pin, copy the plus code, paste it into the address form on Starlink.com.
Should be interesting to see how they do the public rollout. The email invitations say the invite offers expire on July 4th, so maybe it goes on sale to the public after that. Who knows if it will be priced the same or lower based on the data from the invite-only sales.
I ordered like the video states with no problem. When I set up my Starlink, I changed my address and 1 day later I get a message from them saying I will be charged $200 in 3 days because of my address not being correct.
It’s for people in places without good internet options, so whether or not it’s a rip off probably depends on what options you currently have. I went from 5 Mbps DSL to Starlink, so definitely not a ripoff for me. If you have fiber or something, no point in getting Starlink. If you have an RV, Starlink gives you fast internet anywhere, so that’s one possible use case regardless of your internet situation at home.
Greta work - again! I, in the antipodes, have found this really useful - I relaise how disadvataged we are down here witht he stalink deals. Maybe you could find a way to find some loopholes for us down here?
I live in NC, and ordered from Home Depot in TN. I paid $299. I have not activated yet, so I am not sure if I will get the regional $100 statement credit, which HD was advertising.
Just checked, North Carolina is not eligible for the $100 credit at this time. Here is where I checked if you want to see a map of eligible areas: api.starlink.com/public-files/Regional_Savings.pdf
I got mine in Mexico two years ago and it was $399 and $75 a month but just got an email saying that it is increasing to about $90 a month and I have had any outages in the US or Mexico
I ordered a $299 Gen 3 kit (I live in Florida) last month (~6/12) as soon as I saw it was available. I immediately changed the service plan to ROAM although silly me - no screenshots. I was checking today how to pause it in a couple of months - but lo and behold I'm on a residential service plan. I tried to see how to change to ROAM but that doesn't seem to exist with the web interface. The thought pooped into my head to do a return and go buy one at a retailer but can I start on ROAM then given the current status TODAY?
Starlink doesn't provide the change service button on the account dashboard until the next billing cycle, I believe. And if you do change the plan, you'll get charged for the $200 discount on your next bill. If you need the Roam plan right away, you can buy one at a 3rd party retailer and activate it on a separate Roam subscription on your existing account. You could cancel/return the Residential dish for a full refund.
The "UpFront Cost" is minimal compared to the monthly cost, StarLink still the more expensive option in any area that has access to modern hardwired telephone line access. Having said that I am still considering it because 'Maw Bell' in my area is still only offering DSL service with no plans in the foreseeable future for any improvement. I do not consider hardwired TV cable an option because of the typical sloppy work done on ever installation by EVERY cable TV installer I have ever seen (i.e. laying 30 feet of coax cable on the ground or dripping it across carport roofs and down fence lines).
After 20+ years at same address, the continual complaints have resulted in good cable run to the transition point to the internet backbone . Lot of cables replaced over the years - some far from my house. I suspect most people move too often to wear them down . One thing I have found is complain about your ‘TV’ not working gets better response from technicians and network infrastructure groups. Seemed to work best under Spectrum ownership as fixing the service lost in heavy rain was the last big fix About 8 years ago. Be a pest was my solution to cable issues ( and long view ) YMMV
Another yt vid said no. You have to be on Roam plan to be able to pause. And as this vid said, you can only switch plans (to Roam) after 6 months, or get charged the $200....
The trial is $50 plus $120 for service. So you are risking $170 for Internet that might not work. They should cut the trial service price to $60 or less in my opinion…
No, sorry. Starlink hasn't provided any details on the release timeline. They just say where it is currently available, which is the US by special invite, and a handful of countries in South America.
They don’t list a timeline for changing the service address, but it’s 6 months for changing the plan type. You can cancel even within the 6 months and keep the credit, assuming you haven’t changed plans or changed the service address within 6 months.
This is what concerns me. Say I get the promo and 2 years from now, I move to a state that doesn’t have the regional discount, now I’m on the hook for $200, even though I’ve been a paying customer for 2 years? That isn’t right.
Do I need to have 6months of service to not pay back the promotional credit? I was under the impression it could be "pay as needed" as I do not need service every month.
You can cancel your subscription and keep the discount, so long as you don’t change service plans or update your address to an area outside of eligibility for the promotion. Since this offer is only for Standard service, pausing isn’t a feature, so you have to cancel to effectively pause the service for pay as you go use.
Thanks for the info. Finding the fine print isn't super easy, but it looks like you have to pay for the first month of service after the 30 days of "trial." I incorrectly assumed that the 30day trial starts at activation, but it seems that the trial starts at shipment, then you automatically get billed at 30 days after shipping.
