  • Rupaul's Drag U is the first spinoff of Drag Race to make its way to air back in 2010. For having three seasons, it never really is talked about anymore. Why is that?

    There's a Brazilian drag series called Drag me as a Queen (the name is in English) that follows the idea of Drag U and transforms mostly women in drag queens to lift up their self esteem. It's three drag queens and each have a task, one does the make up, the other chooses the clothes, the third the hair and they all help with the presentation. It's a great show.

      girl, idk what real life you live in but every job ive ever worked has had hella drama. once a guy came to del taco with a gun because the morning shift manager was screwing the morning prep girl who, turns out, husband was a gangbanger. but that manager had a record for pandering himself. and he kept his job even tho screwing staff is against policy for managers. same job, my gm dumped her gf (who worked in a different del taco in our area) for a week to screw some girl who worked on our store. then got back together with her gf who somehow didnt know why she got dumped. the girl she slept with transferred to the store where the gf worked and they found out about each other. gm kept her job. this somehow resulted in us not being allowed to listen to music in the kitchen. at the hotel i started losing hours bc we got a new hire who was cellys in prison with the front desk girl who was having an affair with the boss. then the desk girl got in a physical fight with one of the housekeepers for sending the boss a pic of her tits. yeah most people dont have drama

    I never understood why people trash Drag U. I watched every episode when it first came on and I loved it. And watching this, really takes me back. • @mercurydude
      @mercurydude ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I think it's because it was seen as "RuPaul's Best Friend race" at the time and people thought any Drag Race show should be about the reading, shade, and drama. Some folks just didn't want to let it be its own thing, which is unfortunate because I believe it really did help out not only these ladies but also viewers at home who might have benefited from the wisdom about self-confidence that the various queens had to offer.

    • @punkbaby9554
      @punkbaby9554 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@mercurydude yes, I completely agree with you. see, idgaf about the fake or real drama. I've been here since the beginning when the show had heart and soul, not over produced reality TV bs. And I think if you truly love the art of drag, you shouldn't care about that stuff either. I always go back to Drag Race Espana season 2, but it is a great example of zero drama, just focused on the art, and the queens. Watching it made me miss the old days. I will still always love Drag U. Even though Drag U even had some of that stupid, forced conflict too. (example: Juju and Raven "fighting" over a wig smh)

    • @erikm8372

Obviously it was low budget but RuPaul with his mustache (like early season's reunions) and to see how the women felt and the chemistry between some of our favourite Queens was great. Also Lady Bunny!
    I think most viewers back then didn't liked it because it was about regular, unknown women "playing dress-up", when we all know now that Drag has nothing to do with biological sex nor gender identity.

    Regarding Secret Celebs DR, I really liked the first season, the pre-banter and post-kiki, even some mini challenges.... we got the whole journey. And some of the contestants were massive fans of the format (Rachel McAdamsappel), had gender queries and a story to tell. Now it's more pompous, but just performance-based... have to look them up after being dropped, fun^^ Miss the mentoring but can see the guessing game appeal production-vise.

    Yes Jack, please do another video on the second season of Drag U! I’ve never watched it before but your video makes me feel like it’s essential viewing material 😂
    Also, what the hell is that outfit that Manila is wearing?! She usually looks so good 😂

    I LOVED Drag U, downloaded all the episodes back then when in Europe there was no official way to watch any of the Rupaul Universe Stuff. The theme song is still giving me life today!

    Thank you for doing this. I forgot that I've added it to my "to watch" list (and removed and then added again multiple times lol) but this has made me decide I just might maybe not do it, perhaps! 💀💀💀💀💀

    I watched this when it was on TV, but it was never essential programming. It was mostly just great to see some of the queens again.

    Hey thanks for this video. I've been a drag race superfan since 2018 and Drag U is one of the few things I haven't seen. Cool vid, would love to see you cover it more, if the vid does well

    I remember all the commercials for this, on LOGO, being INCREDIBLY vague about what the show even was. I didn’t have a clear idea of how or when to watch it then, either. 😂

    hey Jack, hope you feel better soon enough💚💙
    This was an interesting video, would love to hear your take on how this relates to Queer Eye and We’re Here, maybe some other shows that share the same premise (kind of how All Stars can relate to Survivor and Big Brother 😅).
    Thanks! 💜

    OMG I loved it back then and watched only the first season or so... THANKS for discovering for me that it's on WOW+, I am subscribed but thought it's not on there hahahaha. Never looked for it and even now barely found it, they hid it so deep hahaha.

    When my daughter came out, I ordered OUT TV for her. I love drag, and we love Ru. Drag Race was not being aired in Canada at the time, so we all watched Drag U together, which is why I am super sentimental about it. Never understood the hate...we thought it was a ton of campy fun!

    I freaking LOVED this show!!! I watched every episode and loved it so much.
    It reminded me of that show Monique had about training girls to go from acting wild to having proper etiquette except more sweet and heartwarming.

    This was a fun video! I'd love it if you would cover another RuPaul-led show called Skin Wars that ran for a few years on Game Show Network starting in 2014, if possible! Idk what platforms it streams on.

    One of the few episodes I caught in syndication was the one with Manila in that McDonald's inspired look. I think that was the moment I became a fan. And I ended up learning a couple things from Lady Bunny.

    I believe Ru did this to try and emulate CHARM SCHOOL with Monique and the flavor of love girls. That was big back in the day and ru will always try and jump on the trend but with drag. Even now secret celebrity drag race is like Drag Masked singer. It’s finally working

    I watched Drag U before I watched Drag Race. We had LOGO as part of our TV package and I knew who Rupaul was because my mom lived through the 90's lol. It was a sweet and endearing show and gave me something to look forward to watching after I binge watched reruns of Will & Grace.

    I liked this show. I also liked the theme song a lot, but you cant find the original anywhere, there is a version that came out during season 7 when season 7 girls did rupaul songs. Katya did the DragU song for that album.
