The ATL is my home airport, so I know I’m going to sound like a shameless homer, but I LOVE Hartsfield. It’s easy to get in and out. Arrivals and Departures are great for the person traveling and the person dropping off/picking up. There may be more beautiful airports, but the ATL does it all!
Even with security lines being longer these days, with clear and pre-check I can get from the curb to the boarding door in less than 15 minutes usually
Lots of homeless people there and it’s in a sketchy part of Atlanta. I don’t think it’s beautiful or appealing but I suppose it works. The 1996 Olympics may have played a part in its expansion. Cheers.
I am a controller in Atlanta. We know how to keep planes moving. Of course the crews also help. When we say turn that means turn now and hit that gap - not turn 20 seconds from now. They’re on the same page.
@@jakecostello8400 the victory loop is taxi V or victor that curves around the back of runway 26L/8R. Its used to keep aircraft from crossing said runway to keep the tin moving for departures. If you ever get the chance to go to ATL and watch the traffic arrive and depart you’ll understand why. It’s like rush hour there all day.
I live in Atlanta, and I can safely say that this airport is absolutely amazing by airport standards. It's extremely easy to get from concourse to concourse, and it's a very short TSA-Gate time. ATL is awesome!
Atlanta is my town and ATL is my home airport. Even though it's the busiest in the world it's much easier to navigate than most other smaller airports such as Miami, JFK or Houston.
I totally agree I flew there on the 9 for a concert I should of stayed for a few days / most of the people I came in touch with where very friendly; except one/ a black security guard ; all I asked him if I could leave my package with him at the desk since I was returning in 4 hours/ He started screaming at me : telling me he wasn’t babysitting my bag: so rude.
The wheel chair porter at 4 am was so helpful : he saw I was hurting and told me his service was free to use. As I was using a cane. He helped me through TSA and a long drive through the Airport to my gate and he was very nice 👍
I connect there seemingly every time I fly. Probably my favorite huge airport I've ever been to. It's so well designed and organized. I don't know how you could get lost there.. ATL is light-years ahead of Miami, LAX, JFK, Laguardia, Charlotte, Chicago, Heathrow, Charles de Gaulle, Toronto, and every other hub I've been to.
I fly through Atlanta often as my most of my family is on the east coast and I prefer Delta to other airlines. The airport is huge and the 2 hrs early for domestic flights is accurate. You can easily miss your flight if you don't get there early enough. Plenty of great shopping and apron views for those with time on there hands and the Delta lounge is AMAZING. Not sure if it is back to normal with the pandemic but a must see if possible
@@grownsimba8120 That's one reason but also because it's a very large airport. If you're bid if your flight isn't in the main terminal you're gonna have to take a people mover to 1 of the other terminals and there's like 6 or 7 terminals
Linear layout with excellent signage and information, a train between all the concourses, mass transit access to the city, a train to the rental car area (if that's your thing), two large security checkpoints and crazy fast precheck lines. You really can't beat it for airport efficiency.
Landing and pulling up to the T-Gates is practically like being dropped off curbside in your own driveway. Everyone should get to experience the “T”-life at least once. My most recent ATL-BOS round trip this past June ended with the sheer luxury experience that is a T-Gate arrival. I call it winning the Hartsfield Lottery!
ATL used to be my home airport and it’s an amazing airport. Well run, organized, and friendly. Plenty of options for food and layout if efficient and non confusing.
There are two other advantages not mentioned. First, Atlanta has good weather year around and winter delays and closures do not really affect it since it almost never snows. Secondly, there are 3 runways that can be used for simultaneous landings due to its distance between runways. This might not seem important, but during LIFR operations it can handle much greater operations than any other airport. Also the ATC in Atlanta is just a Swiss watch of precision. These guys have it down to a science. I fly regularly in the Atlanta class B and its a ballet of planes.
With the location, simple infrastructure layout to easily move massive amount of passengers and with 5 parallel runways allowing multiple takeoffs/landings at the same time, Atlanta is the gold standard of what a hub airport should be.
I flew through ATL at least 4 times per week for 20 years (on Delta) for my work (Clinical Research). It became second nature to me and it felt like I was home when we landed, even though I had another flight (of about an hour) to my actual home (BNA or LEX).
As a poor student before, I never flew Delta. But once I graduated to the working world, I found Delta and Atlanta is top notch. Atlanta is easy to navigate, the underground train is so much better than walking in Chicago. And you can’t beat having Bojangle’s in an airport!
My home airport, and I live 20 minutes away. I even worked there as a seasonal employee when I was in college. It’s very busy on the scenes and behind, but we kept it moving. As stressful as it was, we always took pride in being kind, courteous and offering Southern hospitality. Always fly Delta if you are coming through or to Atlanta. Security TSA can be long, but unless there is a disruption, I’ve waited 20-25 minutes at most. We keep it moving. It’s an absolute must to arrive 2 hours before your flight, especially if you are checking a bag. The airport is a major employer for the city, and one of our crown jewels.
My favorite airport to connect through. Easy to move from terminal to terminal, has friendly southern hospitality, and has great shops and food. It should remain #1 based on all factors.
When I went to Atlanta airport (only once) the experience was really good. Even though there were so many passengers the line went very smoothly. Way faster than SFO and JFK which I have been to
My city is an easy 20 min DL or WN flight to/from ATL. I can fly to pretty much anywhere in the world with one simple connection. ATL has a great layout and the newer concourses are really nice... even the older concourses are nice after recent renovations. I have never had any issue in ATL other than summer storms... which I'd take in ATL any day over storms in DFW or ORD!
The 1996 Olympics definitely had an affect on Atlanta becoming the megahub of today and passenger numbers skyrocketed as airport infrastructure was a top priority
Not really. It was DL building a mega hub that funded the airport more than anything. The airport looks nothing like it did back in 1996. That was a two week event that got some minor investment for the airport itself. That's a myth the Olympics funded it.
I regularly fly into ATL. One thing that ATL has is Taxi way Victor. This taxiway at the end of the runway allows planes to taxi directly off the runway after landing without stopping and go directly to the gates without having to wait to crossways runways. It might not seem like much but makes a big difference.
Once you go through Hartsfield-Jackson, you'll never look at any other Airport the same. I find myself always looking for the conveniences that it has when visiting other airports.
If you think the terminals are busy, try driving on the ramp. I worked line maintenance for Delta for several years during the swing shift. Driving from the T gates to the E terminal is not for the faint of heart.
I love flying through Atlanta. It’s Not a boring place to spend time between connecting flights. There’s lots of aircraft movements and people to watch. And the underground train that runs between terminals is definitely professional grade and fast

Along with a fully remodeled passenger exterior fascia on North and South Terminals, a multimillion-dollar glass roof over the passenger drop-off lanes, and completely remodeled check-in areas

ATL is a wonderful airport. You’d think that it would be difficult to navigate or be overcrowded since it’s the busiest airport in the world, but the exact opposite is true. Easy to use subway style system, friendly staff (for airport standards), and lots of open space. It’s definitely my preferred US airport.
The way they planned the airport is fantastic, honestly one of the most efficient in the United States, if not the world. Takes no more than 25 minutes to get from the farthest apart gates, and usually less than 15. Even the fact that the train runs through the middle of the concourses, it's never a really long walk
I used to fly to Atlanta when I was flying on Delta it’s very easy they have transit connect takes it to your terminal obviously but very easy friendly staff I love it
Hartsfield-Jackson is definitely huge and overwhelming! But, it's still probably one of the least overwhelming huge airports in the US. Much less overwhelming than JFK, Chicago, etc.
The one time I’ve been to KATL was when I had a layover. I didn’t stay for long and we stayed mostly in the same area. It was during the beginning of COVID, so it wasn’t super busy but it was still pretty busy. I liked it, but I know security would probably be a mess over there. I also got to fly on one of the last MD80’s with Delta so that’s cool
If you live in the South, the saying goes "To go to Hell, you have to go through Atlanta". Many times it has taken the plan longer to go from the gate to take off (due to Delta's block scheduling and congestion) than it did to fly to Orlando.

Live in ATL metro area and have used the airport multiple times, also as a Uber driver. It has a fairly simply layout having only two terminal buildings domestic (south and north) and international. I have had passenger requests to Alabama.
If I were a foreign flight going to the US over the Atlantic with eventual stop in almost any city west of Atlanta, I'd make Atlanta my first stop since it's near the coast and it's rarely affected by bad weather.
I went through Atlanta once and while I don't remember much about the airport itself (that trip was a nightmare), I've never found that wonderful peach candy anywhere else. Considering connecting through there on my next trip east just for the candy.
I'm also an Atlantan, but I recommend to any avgeek to check it out. While there are tons of amenities, it's not architecturally spectacular. The efficiency the sheer numbers of people and planes are processed at is kind of amazing though.
I live just outside Atlanta so the Atlanta airport is the main airport that I use for obvious reasons and I think that it deserves the number one spot because the staff has always been very friendly and able to direct me to where I need to go when I ask
Its always been a good experience both flying into and out of ATL. Staff are friendly, most flights are on time and there's a lot of attention to detail when it comes to decorations and food options
In 2019 I had the pleasure of flying into and out of Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Coming in was easy to navigate once you understood the shuttle system. Going out was crazy. I had a scheduled early flight so I got to the airport at 4:30am and was shocked to see the security queues were already backed up even with the subscription of TSA Pre and Clear to get into special queues. Plan accordingly should you fly out of Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
If you catch the glut of business travelers, yeah, Pre-check can be worse than the regular line. Otherwise, pre-check is a breeze and I regularly get through in under 10 minutes at 6am.
I fly there quite often to visit much of my family in Northeast Georgia, absolutely great airport, very easy to navigate and everything is modern and up to date.
@@danielclooney6248 You can spot outside in the Southside cell lot, or on top of the garage. Inside you can get great views from Gate 1A on Concourse D, and the outdoor deck of the Concourse F SkyClub.
I live in Atlanta and have flown through multiple times. I do love the airport, but I would *always* recommend getting there early since security, and walking through the gargantuan airport.
Actually I have in 2019 and I was impressed by its efficiency. Even there is only one security check line, you were always moving and even there are five Terminals, you are quick there with the rail. I had several flights in and out of ATL as I chose it as a base for my US trip and as said in the clip, one of the advantages is its geographical location. I had to go to Cleveland and visited New Orleans. The only reason I will probably fly into Boston again next time is the customs and immigrations office which is much easier and faster at a smaller airport of course.
Until Delta closed their acquired hub in Memphis, (along with the help of various low-cost, point-to-point options available), I was able to avoid connecting through Atlanta for the bulk of my adult flying life. It's a fine airport, easy to navigate for its size.
I flew out of there plenty of times. It is very busy and huge! It is like a city. The staffs were all very helpful. The bathrooms were clean, thank goodness for that too.
I've been through once flying Air France from Paris and connecting with Delta to Austin. All I remember was that the Train ride from passport control to get to Austin's gate was longer than the time it took for us to taxi.
Hartsville Jackson international is a glory to behold especially the new international terminal me being a Georgian myself get to experience it on our regular basis
I flew into Atlanta once and it was a terrible experience. It was snowing which caused havoc as they clearly weren't used to it. We got lucky as there was a sick passenger on board so we got to land relatively quickly. Then I was surprised to find that after a huge wait at immigration, then picking up my bag, I then had to check my bag back in just to get out of the airport because everything is airside. So another long wait to do that, then a mile-long hike across the airport (there was a train but chances of getting onto it were slim). I finally got my bag again, which was on a carousel, landside, where anyone could have taken it. Then I had to get to car hire and that took ages too. From landing to collecting my car was over 4 hours. OK, so I was unlucky, but it's there amongst my worst airport experiences and I have actively avoided Atlanta ever since. Typically, I left plenty of time to catch my return flight and there were no issues at all, so I had to hang around for hours...
That's all gone now, as they opened a new international terminal some years back and it's all self-contained: You check in there, you get your bags there. No more "pick up your bags, put them back in" nonsense.
very interesting how Delta has their hubs in *relatively* smaller cities like Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, and Salt Lake City, while United has their hubs in the largest metro areas like Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, DC, and New York/Newark.
@@dkal1952 The intown population of a city means nothing. That airport along with all of its professional sports teams services the entire metro area. Also all of ATL Fortune 500 companies makes it the in to the top 10 GDP. You cannot pretend that all of those 6 million people that surrounds Atlanta does not exist.

My main issues flying through Atlanta are I have to arrange at least a hour layover to lessen missing my connections. In addition, they tend to shut down for weather more frequently than other airports. And takeoffs and landings over the highway is pretty cool!
I have flown thru there many times, and it is clean and efficient, with connecting trams to the concourse, and lots of diversions, if you are delayed for long, ATL does not get snow (occasionally ice) so that helps with no delays being common, unlike ORD, which is a winter mess!
I just found this out but what’s more surprising to me is I have been to America multiple times and flown with delta countless times but I have never been to Atlanta.
I’ve fly delta a lot so I’ve been through Atlanta many times, although not always on delta. I have also flown the long hop from the 5th busiest to Atlanta.
I like the design of ATL. Having separate concourses linked by the underground rail system allows better maneuvability for taxiing aircraft. But the one thing that's missing is people movers within each concourse. It's an awful long walk between the escalator and the end of the concourse on either side.
The subterminal rail system at AHJ transporting passengers from terminal to terminal quickly is engineering genius and something I haven't seen at any other airport. The airport itself feels like a city within a city. Connect out of ATL just to experience the airport isn't a bad idea. Check it out!
ATL is mostly efficient, whether connecting or flying in/out. Far from the most inspiring airport, and it always feels crowded to me, but having so many Delta Clubs to choose from does make layovers easier.

Fax, you can have a 20 minute layover (even from Concourse T to Concourse F) and you would still make it with time to spare if you were in Atlanta

I've never herd ATL described a "lovely". It's functional for such high volumes by design. Lovely not so much.

ATL is a wonderful airport. You’d think that it would be difficult to navigate or be overcrowded since it’s the busiest airport in the world, but the exact opposite is true. Easy to use subway style system, friendly staff (for airport standards), and lots of open space. It’s definitely my preferred US airport.
The way they planned the airport is fantastic, honestly one of the most efficient in the United States, if not the world. Takes no more than 25 minutes to get from the farthest apart gates, and usually less than 15. Even the fact that the train runs through the middle of the concourses, it's never a really long walk
My home airport. Can get nearly anywhere in the world direct, certainly anywhere in the US. Love it at KATL.

I used to fly to Atlanta when I was flying on Delta it’s very easy they have transit connect takes it to your terminal obviously but very easy friendly staff I love it
I've flow in and out of ATL many times, and I can honestly say it's easier to navigate than many of the much smaller airports I've been too.
Yes, we connect through Atlanta to Europe once or twice a year. Always a good experience.

Hartsfield-Jackson is definitely huge and overwhelming! But, it's still probably one of the least overwhelming huge airports in the US. Much less overwhelming than JFK, Chicago, etc.
I was in Atlanta 2 weeks ago. It’s a top notch airport and one of my favorite connections.
The one time I’ve been to KATL was when I had a layover. I didn’t stay for long and we stayed mostly in the same area. It was during the beginning of COVID, so it wasn’t super busy but it was still pretty busy. I liked it, but I know security would probably be a mess over there. I also got to fly on one of the last MD80’s with Delta so that’s cool
If you live in the South, the saying goes "To go to Hell, you have to go through Atlanta". Many times it has taken the plan longer to go from the gate to take off (due to Delta's block scheduling and congestion) than it did to fly to Orlando.

The old saying is if you die in the south where do you go to heaven or hell do you have to change planes in Atlanta Atlanta Hartsfield is large ugly and busy but it’s extremely efficient and you can fly to almost any destinations in the world without having to connect at another airport with that live in Atlanta do cherish our Hartsfield Jackson international airport thanks for the video nice job
Live in ATL metro area and have used the airport multiple times, also as a Uber driver. It has a fairly simply layout having only two terminal buildings domestic (south and north) and international. I have had passenger requests to Alabama.
If I were a foreign flight going to the US over the Atlantic with eventual stop in almost any city west of Atlanta, I'd make Atlanta my first stop since it's near the coast and it's rarely affected by bad weather.
ATL is SO HUGE with lots of planes and airlines flying through ATL! As a self proclaimed Avgeek I loved it!!!

ATL is one my favorite hubs to layover in! Despite being the busiest in the world it's very efficient!

I went through Atlanta once and while I don't remember much about the airport itself (that trip was a nightmare), I've never found that wonderful peach candy anywhere else. Considering connecting through there on my next trip east just for the candy.
I'm also an Atlantan, but I recommend to any avgeek to check it out. While there are tons of amenities, it's not architecturally spectacular. The efficiency the sheer numbers of people and planes are processed at is kind of amazing though.

Atlanta's airport is a very state-of-the-art airport. I've always had great experiences there.
I live just outside Atlanta so the Atlanta airport is the main airport that I use for obvious reasons and I think that it deserves the number one spot because the staff has always been very friendly and able to direct me to where I need to go when I ask

Its always been a good experience both flying into and out of ATL. Staff are friendly, most flights are on time and there's a lot of attention to detail when it comes to decorations and food options
In 2019 I had the pleasure of flying into and out of Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
Coming in was easy to navigate once you understood the shuttle system.
Going out was crazy. I had a scheduled early flight so I got to the airport at 4:30am and was shocked to see the security queues were already backed up even with the subscription of TSA Pre and Clear to get into special queues.
Plan accordingly should you fly out of Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
If you catch the glut of business travelers, yeah, Pre-check can be worse than the regular line. Otherwise, pre-check is a breeze and I regularly get through in under 10 minutes at 6am.
That's a TSA problem. That body is in need to extensive reform.

@@danielclooney6248 You can spot outside in the Southside cell lot, or on top of the garage. Inside you can get great views from Gate 1A on Concourse D, and the outdoor deck of the Concourse F SkyClub.

I live in Atlanta and have flown through multiple times. I do love the airport, but I would *always* recommend getting there early since security, and walking through the gargantuan airport.
@Jonathan Parks Bruv it literally says its 35 minutes from concourse T to F But given that there's the plane train, it's more like 6 minutes

One of the best airport I flew out of.
Actually I have in 2019 and I was impressed by its efficiency. Even there is only one security check line, you were always moving and even there are five Terminals, you are quick there with the rail. I had several flights in and out of ATL as I chose it as a base for my US trip and as said in the clip, one of the advantages is its geographical location. I had to go to Cleveland and visited New Orleans. The only reason I will probably fly into Boston again next time is the customs and immigrations office which is much easier and faster at a smaller airport of course.
Until Delta closed their acquired hub in Memphis, (along with the help of various low-cost, point-to-point options available), I was able to avoid connecting through Atlanta for the bulk of my adult flying life. It's a fine airport, easy to navigate for its size.
I flew through Atlanta a couple times and it was very organized and easy to navigate despite its size
I flew out of there plenty of times. It is very busy and huge! It is like a city. The staffs were all very helpful. The bathrooms were clean, thank goodness for that too.
I've been through once flying Air France from Paris and connecting with Delta to Austin. All I remember was that the Train ride from passport control to get to Austin's gate was longer than the time it took for us to taxi.
Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson is my home airport and I have only had a delay of up to 15 minutes going out of Atlanta.

Hartsville Jackson international is a glory to behold especially the new international terminal me being a Georgian myself get to experience it on our regular basis

I flew into Atlanta once and it was a terrible experience. It was snowing which caused havoc as they clearly weren't used to it. We got lucky as there was a sick passenger on board so we got to land relatively quickly.
Then I was surprised to find that after a huge wait at immigration, then picking up my bag, I then had to check my bag back in just to get out of the airport because everything is airside. So another long wait to do that, then a mile-long hike across the airport (there was a train but chances of getting onto it were slim).
I finally got my bag again, which was on a carousel, landside, where anyone could have taken it. Then I had to get to car hire and that took ages too. From landing to collecting my car was over 4 hours.
OK, so I was unlucky, but it's there amongst my worst airport experiences and I have actively avoided Atlanta ever since.
Typically, I left plenty of time to catch my return flight and there were no issues at all, so I had to hang around for hours...
That's all gone now, as they opened a new international terminal some years back and it's all self-contained: You check in there, you get your bags there. No more "pick up your bags, put them back in" nonsense.

ATL is my home airport and it’s super efficient also I’ve been to Charles de Gaulle it’s pretty much the opposite of efficient

very interesting how Delta has their hubs in *relatively* smaller cities like Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, and Salt Lake City, while United has their hubs in the largest metro areas like Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, DC, and New York/Newark.
Delta has near exclusivity on high demand routes at their hubs, whereas UA has to fight AA and many others at theirs.
Atlanta is not a small metro. It’s larger than San Francisco. Atl -6.1 San Francisco - 4.7.

@@dkal1952 The intown population of a city means nothing. That airport along with all of its professional sports teams services the entire metro area. Also all of ATL Fortune 500 companies makes it the in to the top 10 GDP. You cannot pretend that all of those 6 million people that surrounds Atlanta does not exist.
@@Boxhead42 Not only that, ATL is basically the only major airport for the entire southeastern US. Everyone from the surrounding states connect through Atlanta.
My main issues flying through Atlanta are I have to arrange at least a hour layover to lessen missing my connections. In addition, they tend to shut down for weather more frequently than other airports. And takeoffs and landings over the highway is pretty cool!
as a foreigner I have experienced long queues (2-3 hours) at the immigration and sometimes lost the connecting flights.
That's TSA for you. Especially if you've had the privilege of being called to be registered in that small office after passing passport control.

Immigration makes TSA look speedy and efficient.
I have flown thru there many times, and it is clean and efficient, with connecting trams to the concourse, and lots of diversions, if you are delayed for long, ATL does not get snow (occasionally ice) so that helps with no delays being common, unlike ORD, which is a winter mess!
I just found this out but what’s more surprising to me is I have been to America multiple times and flown with delta countless times but I have never been to Atlanta.

I’ve fly delta a lot so I’ve been through Atlanta many times, although not always on delta.
I have also flown the long hop from the 5th busiest to Atlanta.
I like the design of ATL. Having separate concourses linked by the underground rail system allows better maneuvability for taxiing aircraft. But the one thing that's missing is people movers within each concourse. It's an awful long walk between the escalator and the end of the concourse on either side.
The subterminal rail system at AHJ transporting passengers from terminal to terminal quickly is engineering genius and something I haven't seen at any other airport. The airport itself feels like a city within a city. Connect out of ATL just to experience the airport isn't a bad idea. Check it out!
Denver's airport has an underground train too but they specifically modeled their terminal layout like ATL because of the efficiency it gives.....
ATL is mostly efficient, whether connecting or flying in/out. Far from the most inspiring airport, and it always feels crowded to me, but having so many Delta Clubs to choose from does make layovers easier.
Most of the inspiring airports are not in the USA.
Atlanta is one of the best large international airports in the US.
You can’t tell me otherwise.
20 years ago I was in that airport at least once a month, usually more. Once you know what to do it's easy to get around
