what if it were a crosswind?, then i would assume that there will be no effect since the crosswind will have the same effect from point a to b and vice versa
It would increase the fuel consumption. Because if you draw a wind triangle , you will find that you travel more air miles than the ground miles. This means PNR closer to the departure.
