  • The Cox family are absolutely the best musical family performing today, here they are doing "I Am Weary, Let Me Rest" featuring the great Suzanne Cox. I am shearing this clip
with you directly from the concert movie "Down From the Mountain" a concert based on the performers on the soundtrack of O Brother Where Art Thou. They should be given credit so people can know where to get this movie. One of the best!

I talked about this with a friend of mine that's the most devout person I've known since my grandparents, he says it's the Holy Spirit that moves me to tears. My dad's side of the family was like this...very musically inclined. My dad could play just about any instrument. My Aunt Frances sounded like Allison K. and my Aunt Ruth was a cross between Suzanne and Allison. During the summer they would get together and jam just like this. My dad had written a few songs that some how got recorded and then he heard it on the Oprey show. He was always sore at that issue til the end. Back then they made songs that no one really put a claim to...just made songs for the sake of having music and expressing themselves and country living.

I second the comment from Tim Cox. The way the performers relate to one another on stage reveals a connection and "authenticity" to their sound, something I think is very rare in music today. The family element may have a lot to do with that. I also can't say enough about Suzanne's beautiful and moving voice.

I'm sure I'll meet her someday though, when one or both of your parents dies before you have met them it sort of forces you to believe in the afterlife anyway...

Also has to be mentioned how perfect and tasteful that banjo was. He didn’t ramble over the entire song like banjos tend to do, he picked the perfect times to play beautiful fills and it adds so much to the song.
I watch this every few weeks it’s just astonishing.

My father just passed away suddenly and I believe this song holds the key as to why he left us without a word. My father was not ill, he was going great guns the day before and the next day he passed away peacefully in his sleep. I am trying to find out the true meaning of this song so that my mum and our family can feel at peace as these are the last words I believed my father left for us. How we came about this song is that my father was a lover of bluegrass and he plays on a regular basis with his group of friends. My sister asked them to perform a song on the day of service and one of the guys mentioned that my father was really keen on this song. My father rarely showed his sentimental side as most music he played was funny and very happy but this song is really out of the ordinary. That leads me to believe that my father left this song as a parting message to us. Please someone help me to understand this song more so that my mum can share his final message.

Golfer Fore I wish I knew what to say that would make everything clear, but I hope and pray that the true meaning for those of us that have experienced sudden heartbreak is the lyric, “angels wait to take me home”.

I saw Suzanne Cox in concert in San Fran at Hardly Strictly and she waved back to me from the stage. It was the highlight of my trip to America. God bless you:)
