On December 7, 1941 (December 8, Japan time), the Japanese Navy attacked Pearl Harbor (the start of the Pacific War). Soon after the outbreak of the war, Japanese and Japanese-Americans throughout the U.S. were incarcerated in concentration camps, but Japanese and Japanese-Americans in Hawaii were not, except for a few representatives of the Japanese American community, such as the president of the Japanese Association and Buddhist priests. However, there was a systematic effort to Americanize the Japanese Americans at this time. Many young Japanese Americans, born and raised in Hawaii and with U.S. citizenship, sought to demonstrate their loyalty to their country by volunteering to join the military. The 100th Battalion of the Army, composed entirely of Hawaiian Nikkei, later joined with Japanese American units in the U.S. mainland to form the 442nd Regiment, which achieved remarkable results on the European front at the cost of many lives. I'm doing a TH-cam video of footage taken from the 1910s to the 1980s.
The footage is original and was filmed by my family and my friends while they were traveling.
That's why most of the footage was shot in Japan.
The first step in the editing process is to convert the video from analog to digital. Then I remove the unnecessary parts and add the original music and subtitles. We don't want to hide the footage, so we don't have many subtitles.
