What this song did for me at 18 is teach me that depression is anger turned inward. "when you hate u u hate everyone that day ....sacrifice your own needs. " Only you can heal that pain & for me it started by first sweating it out. Thank you Janet...this is art. point blank period .🤗
She talked about the crying when recording this song. “That the song should have been called Me”. I think that why she’s so... aggressive with this one song. She doesn’t have this demeanor for any other song during the concert. She’s literally singing words, that she was clearly saying to herself looking in the mirror, even though now we know she definitely wasn’t looking in mirrors. Her depression was intense, and she just said fuck it, here it is, and how I deal with my depression and it was amazing for her career, and honestly it seems for her. All For You wasn’t too too far behind this, and she seemed to be the happiest she’d ever be.
There is a determination in her face...she was proving that she deserves to be here...and that she is worthy... I think this album allowed her to accept herself as an individual independent from family and this is who she is. i hope she digs deep on black diamond.
I just remember this album not having the best radio friendly songs but jammin' to them were great. This one Free Zone Everytime Special Cant B Stop. Love this era.
