What an amazing list Scot bw to your wife from myself and My Mom she loves your endings snakes etc and she is 94 years of age not in the best health you make her day. Thank you so much ❤
Wow Scott, I thought I knew prog but your list has quite a few bands I've never heard of, which is fantastic, because I now have stuff to investigate! Thanks for this.
Yeah, man. Cool show. 1975 was a groovilicious, nutritious and delicious year for all sorts of music. And films, too. Renaissance, Camel, Strawbs, Styx and The Phunky Pfloydsters are a few of my musical faves, just to scratch the surface, from 1975. Jaws, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and The Velour Shingle make up the motion picture aspect of my comment. Keep up the awesome work, bro. Looking forward to your non-Prog faves from ‘75. Cheers from The Big Apple. Rock Out, Prog On and Pogo! Your clone and mine, ~ The Distanced, Didactic, Dopamine Addicted Doppelgänger of Davey Cretin, from Cretin Classics.
Great to see The Snow Goose make your top 10. It doesn't just tell a fascinating story, the music captures the themes expressed by the author so beautifully I'm tempted to use a phrase I normally laugh at when I see it in comments sections. But if this isn't a timeless masterpiece I don't know what is.
I hadn’t realized what an incredible year 1975 was for music until everyone started talked about all these great albums from 50 years ago. My underrated pick is Brian Eno’s Another Green World. I don’t know what it is about that album but I love it. I don’t really like any Brian Eno works nearly as much as Another Green World. This one just sets a unique and comforting mood for me.
Excellent list, Scot! There were SO many great albums this year that the list could easily have been another ten albums long. Two of my favorites from '75 are great live albums: King Crimson's USA and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band Live.
Great list, Scot. Glad you put Supertramp in the list. I really love Crisis...what crisis. And Minstrel in the gallery is my best Jetho Tull album. And I love your shirt!!!😁
What a great year, 1975! My favourites are: Whish you were here, Godbluff and Fish out of water. Now I am busy listening to some of the records you mentioned that I haven't heard yet. Peace.
The summer of 1975 was a summer of transition for me. I turned 16 the same month my parents moved me from Missouri to South Carolina. My music tastes were in flux. And the neighbor friend with a car only had Wings' Venus and Mars on tape in the car. Wings give me the heebie-jeebies to this day. LOL Anyway, great list. You managed to give me a couple there I need to go back and check out. So much great music in 1975 that like you I had about 80 albums pulled to create my list which includes everything, not just prog. But there is plenty of prog. I ended up with a couple of surprises for myself. Rock out! 1. Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks 2. Ambrosia - debut 3. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here 4. Steely Dan - Katy Lied 5. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti 6. Chris Squire - Fish Out of Water 7. Head East - Flat as a Pancake 8. Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run 9. Renaissance - Scheherazade and Other Stories 10. Al Stewart - Modern Times 11. Triumvirat - Spartacus 12. Doobie Brothers - Stampede 13. Camel - The Snow Goose 14. Kansas - Song for America 15. Styx - Equinox 16. Journey - debut 17. Caravan - Cunning Stunts 38. Electric Light Orchestra - Face the Music 39. Supertramp - Crisis, What Crisis? 40. Eloy - Power and the Passion
Toys In The Attic!!! My favorite Aerosmith song is from that album: NO MORE NO MORE!!!! Blood stains the ivories of my Daddy’s baby grand/Ain’t seen no daylight since we started this band And I love Red Octopus!!!!!

Great list! I thought I knew all the great prog albums from that great year, but you had several on there that I have not heard. So I need to check those out (Clearlight, Quiet Sun, Finch, Area, Cherry Five, Birth Control, and the Peter Hammil). Another great 70's year for prog!

Definitely a phenomenal year Scot. Of course WYWH is a record every music fan should hear. Play it in the schools I say. Shine On..... great video good buddy. Later. 😍🎵🎵🤘
Oh how i waited for you to do a 70's ranking. And it's awesome. Totally agree about Triumvirat. My number one is exactly the same, but shortly after Floyd comes The Snow Goose. The best Camel album for my money. A concept album without lyrics, wtf? Overall '75 is a great year for prog and sooo hard to rank
What an amazing year. It’s kinda freaking me out how much great stuff came out that year. Did ANYONE put out a bad album that year (besides Stevie Howe…)
It's a bit too difficult for me to come up with a top 20 so here's my top 10: Tangerine Dream-Rubycon, Tangerine Dream-Ricochet, Rush-Caress of Steel, Morse Code-La Marche Des Hommes, Split Enz-Mental Notes, Mike Oldfield-Ommadawn, Vangelis-Heaven & Hell, Kansas-Masque, Camel-The Snow Goose and Shadowfax-Watercourse Way.
Wow, this is the first time i have heard Kayak mentioned. They are one of my favorite bands. Kudos to you for having them in your list. Another Dutch band you might like is Earth and Fire. Listen to the album "Song for the marching children"
@TheProgCorner Seven of their albums can be found on Spotify, i think. The last two are not there. Earth and Fire (1st album) is a good as Song for the Marching Children. The 3rd album, Atlantis, is great as well. Later Earth and Fire became more poppy. They even had an almost disco hit with Weekend in the Netherlands. But though they became more poppy, To the World of the Future (1975), Reality Fills Fantasy (1979), and Andromeda Girl (1981) all have their epic track. Only Gates to Infinity (1977) has no epic one song. However, it is kind of a concept album.
On listening to your spine-tingling "King Arthur" monologue, I have but one question... Do you also do the voice for The Simpsons janitor "Groundskeeper Willie"?
Scented Gardens for the Blind by Dragon (New Zealand). The 8 minute 'Sunburst' is my favourite prog track ever. Just glorious. Mental Notes by Split Enz (New Zealand). New and fresh.
Awesome video Scot and a great show this Sunday ranking the great albums of 1975.I agree with Scot Davis of Myth of Logic of the albums of Kansas "Song for America " and "Masque" from 1975 are two great albums.Another Album that is not prog. is "Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth.
Wow! Great ranking! Love Ommadawn finally getting the respect it deserves! Definitely his masterpiece imo! And yes, WYWH definitely belongs at #1! Life changing album to anyone who hears it!
I can't believe you put Soft Machine Bundles into the honourable mentions! It would be in my top 5. We are all entitled to our options. If we all likely the same things the world would be a boring place. Also in my top 5 would have been Mahavishnu's Visions of Emerald Beyond, and also making my list would have been Bowie's Young Americans and Roxy Music's Siren.
Great picks as always Mr. Lade, 40 Prog awesome albums. I'll take the liberty to add some more, which I consider great albums also. Apoteosi: Apoteosi. Arco Iris: Agitor Lucens V. You're no idiot, you're an amazing and a teacher, the thing is that there were so many great albums that year. And we didn't even mention the Jazz Rock Fusion albums of that amazing year.
Clearlight! Nice one that I wouldn't have thought of but I did have Fish Rising as number 1. My original vinyl copy of Maxophone (in very good condition) cost me just a pound from a second hand shop - it can be done!
Fair enough. I think you nailed that fine line between "objective" (90%) and "subjective" (10%) perfectly. I don't think anyone can honestly argue with your ranking...great job! Peace out, Scot.
@@TheProgCorner Perhaps some will, BUT, they will be bringing in a larger portion of "subjective" to it. Looking forward to your '75 non-prog ranking! You're the best!
Great list! I had forgotten about the Quiet Sun album and have dug it out for a play. The only major omission for me is Heaven and Hell by Vangelis. He is famed for his 80s movie soundtracks but 70s albums Heaven and Hell and Albedo 0.39 are prog masterpieces, IMHO.
@TheProgCorner for sure. Im a huge prog fan but i need to get into more kraut rock. I love your exuberance and watch many of your videos. Rock on brother
One of my favorites from this year is probably one of my favorite bands of the 70s and is only known for one huge song which is so unfortunate because they brought out some amazing albums all throughout the 70s I'm talking about Manfred Mann's Earth band Nightingale's and bomber's the last of the amazing Mick Rogers era a fantastic vocalist and guitar player and you have classics such as spirits in the night, time is right and visionary mountains
I’m in total agreement!!! Stiff competition!!!! But I did select it as part of my background for today’s episode (and gave it Honorable Mention.) I was late to Manfred Mann’s Earth Band. Like most Americans, I knew exactly one song - a cover. Yeah, great stuff!!!
For me, where Pink Floyd is concerned it's either The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn or Animals. It's either the glorious Psychedelic madness of that first album or their full frontal assault on the English class system. I love some of your other choices, too. I want to check out Free Hand, now that I've found the Gentle Giant rabbit hole. Also God Bluff and Nadir's Big Chance, since Pawn Hearts gave me an appetite for VGG and Peter Hammill's solo was a precursor to what came later. And I should check out Henry Cow's In Praise Of Learning, especially since I have Western Culture sitting around somewhere in LP form. I'll also give Hatfield And The North a chance, as well as Brian Eno's Another Green World (just having his first two isn't enough). Thanks for the list.
Except for the obvious choices such as Wish You Were Here and Godbluff here are some favourite deep cuts: 1) Sebastian Hardie - Four Seasons 2) Kestrel - s/t 3) Steve Hillage - Fish Rising. 4) Pavlov’s Dog - Pampered Menial 6) Carmen - Dancing on a Cold Wind 7) Gryphon - Raindance (my favourite of theirs) 8) Kayak - Royal Bed Bouncer 9) Finch - Glory of the Inner Force 10) Kaipa - S/t 11) Womega - A quick Step
"Dancing On A Cold Wind" by Carmen was released in 1974: their album "The Gypsies" was released in 1975, which was nowhere near as good as it's predecessor.
Agree “ wish you were here “ is classic Floyd. Still sounds amazing. I would add The band Ambrosia. Their first record was produced by the great Alan Parsons. Actually a good prog record after this unfortunately they went full pop.
I think you should have included Steve Howe's Beginnings. Sure, the vocals aren't very good, but most of the songs are great...Nature of the Sea, Will o' the Wisp, Ram and Pleasure Stole The Night are excellent.
Ok Durazno sangrando Invisible Argentina Bundles Soft Machine Trick of The Tail Genesis One size Fits All FZappa Crisálida Espíritu from Argentina Greetings from Argentina msn🇳🇮👋
I have a video idea: the worst album covers for great prog albums (so no love beach), my pick would be Refugee which I listened to half of recently and was surprised to find it really good, but the artwork is terribly cheesy
I would have forgiven you Scott if you had of put "Free Hand" at No #1, as to me it is a much better PROG album (by its definition) than "Wish You Were Here".... (ducking!). You obviously went the safe option to protect yourself from the imminent backlash that you would have been subjected to from PF aficionados!
Partially correct. But there is another part of me that’s 13, hearing Welcome To The Machine for the first time. Impactful is an understatement. But I play Free Hand a lot more often these days!!!!
@@TheProgCornerYeah, I guess you really had no choice. Shine On You Crazy Diamond isn't the title track. (Yes, you said that.) But it should have been. Good thing it took a couple years to make that record. The year before had Tales and Relayer, with The Lamb. Where would Wish You Were Here be amongst those three?
What an amazing list Scot bw to your wife from myself and My Mom she loves your endings snakes etc and she is 94 years of age not in the best health you make her day.

Very fine ranking indeed, 50 years old and still fantastic. 2025 music in 2075? I bet no one can name any.
I won’t be around!!!!
the singer for Area of course was a big influence on Mike Patton of Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, etc.
ABSOLUTELY!!! Demetrio Stratos. Lord have mercy.
Although you didn't mention it, I noticed you had Fleetwood Mac '75 in the background. That's a great one; I actually like it better than Rumours.
I agree (although Tusk is my favorite…)
Harmonium one and Minstrel in gallery makes my top 10, still great list ofc ;)
What a great year it was…
I love Maxophone. They have every prog type sound on that album.
Yes!!!
i came across Styx Equinox album. at a thrift store last year, it's a good one!
Suite Madam Blue!!!!!
I would KILL for a copy of that Maxophone album!
It’s a repress. All my RPI albums are reissues (except my prized copy of PFM’s Per Un Amico.)
@TheProgCorner I've had my eye on that PFM too... but that's a true novelty item!
I might have put Minstrel higher but then again I haven’t heard half the other albums so what do I know 😂
No Bo Hansson Attic Thoughts?
Oh no!!!! I forgot Bo!!!!!!!!
AARRGGHH! more stuff I have never heard! That 40-20 list.
Whew.
Have to give Zappa another go, never considered Frank prog. Freak Jazz, yeah.
I’m sorry. Kind of!!!
LOVE Triumvirat! Sparticus is a classic!
I remember the day you brought that one home!!!!! It reminds me of Christmas time, for some reason!!!!
Eno’s third and fourth albums were his best!!!!!!
Yup
Except for the obvious choices such as Wish You Were Here and Godbluff here are some favourite deep cuts:
1) Sebastian Hardie - Four Seasons
2) Kestrel - s/t
3) Steve Hillage - Fish Rising.
4) Pavlov’s Dog - Pampered Menial
6) Carmen - Dancing on a Cold Wind
7) Gryphon - Raindance (my favourite of theirs)
8) Kayak - Royal Bed Bouncer
9) Finch - Glory of the Inner Force
10) Kaipa - S/t
11) Womega - A quick Step
Kestrel. How did I miss that one!!!!
"Dancing On A Cold Wind" by Carmen was released in 1974: their album "The Gypsies" was released in 1975, which was nowhere near as good as it's predecessor.
@@BG-id2cvstill very good though I prefer the debut, too.
Saw Supertramp on that tour
Wow!!!
My favourite 1975 album is David Sancious "Forest of Feelings" with Todd Rundgren "Initiation" not far behind.
Todd!!!
Amazing year, just amazing. Even Chocolate Kings didn't make it 😮
Crazy good.
Agree Scot Wish You Were Floyd great choice
Has to be!!!
"Royal Bed Bouncer" is an awesome album. Ton Scherpenzeel is great.
He’s amazing!!!!!
Wow. Chocolate Kings would make my Top 10 easily!
Tough year!!!!
WOTEOT from Hawkwind it's fantastic, remind Moody Blues Mellotron's ocean. Auatralia's SH are awesome
Indeed!!!!
You know it was a good year when the Hayward/Lodge album Bluejays wasn't even mentioned.
Bluejays!!!! Great album!!!
Once again, a great topic. My top of that year (and without a second thought) is Minstrel in the Gallery.
In my top 3 also.
So good!!!
Agree “ wish you were here “ is classic Floyd. Still sounds amazing. I would add The band Ambrosia. Their first record was produced by the great Alan Parsons. Actually a good prog record after this unfortunately they went full pop.
I had Ambrosia in there!!!! (#28)
@@TheProgCorner must have zoned out for a bit missed that pick. Had king Crimson RED on !
@@Prog-t9d That’ll do it.
I am late to the party regarding Voyage of the Acolyte. The album does not disappoint, 191 in the US charts, go figure.
Crazy.
Druid ----TOWARD THE SUN
Good call.
2112
RUSH 🇨🇦
Fly By Night and Caress Of Steel were 1975. 2112 was 1976!!!
I think you should have included Steve Howe's Beginnings. Sure, the vocals aren't very good, but most of the songs are great...Nature of the Sea, Will o' the Wisp, Ram and Pleasure Stole The Night are excellent.
Any other year it would have made the list but 1975 was ridiculous.
Owns 19 of those albums. Hard to rank them.
Impossible!!!! But I did it anyway!!!!
love crisis what crisis. My fav tramp album
I love that band.
So after all Punk wasn't that necessary, was it?
Renaissance Sheherazade And Other Short Stories, Pavlov's Dog Pampered Menial,Camel Music inspired by The Snow Goose, Uriah Heep Return to Fantasy..
Awesome
Ok
Durazno sangrando Invisible Argentina
Bundles Soft Machine Trick of The Tail Genesis
One size Fits All FZappa
Crisálida Espíritu from Argentina
Greetings from Argentina msn🇳🇮👋
Invisible!!!!!
@ have you heard Invisible? A great Argentine Band lead by Spinetta
I comment on YT channels who give me quality content,no ah erms etc brilliant
And that’s why you are my favorite.
@@TheProgCorner😂
I'm truely baffled...no "Oasis"...??...😅😂
No sir.
I have a video idea: the worst album covers for great prog albums (so no love beach), my pick would be Refugee which I listened to half of recently and was surprised to find it really good, but the artwork is terribly cheesy
That’s the perfect example!!!!!
@ gentle giants interview would be another good one, in my opinion it’s pretty tacky looking and nowhere as cool as their four previous album artworks
@@TheProgCornerWOW. What a great idea for a top 10. I can't even think of two covers that I hate.
Supertramp in and Barclay James Harvest, Tangerine Dream and Trace are out??! Oh no!! 😂
Trace hurt. I love Birds.🦅
Cunning Stunts ?
I love Caravan!!!
my copy of Ghosts by Strawbs says 1974.
That’s really weird because it came out January 1975. In the US and the UK.
I`m probably reading recorded and written info.
Typical Scott, first 3 albums not Prog, Steely Dan not Prog. Crisis, What Crisis? could be “Prog, What Prog?”
Steely Dan and Supertramp are definitely borderline acts but…I love them!!!!
@ I just watched it back. Wow. I made a lot of little errors!!!
@TheProgCorner That's OK. We know what you meant, and love your podcasts. You're fantastic.
Thank you, Charles!!! I appreciate all the support!!!!
Soft Machine Bundles. Is the best album from 1975.
Pink Floyd are boring.
Holdsworth!!!
@TheProgCorner and the next Soft Machine album is great....softs
