Reminds me of replacing the fan motor in my furnace. I took it all apart and had to take out the squirrel cage. It was a sweltering hot day in late July, and the house was like 86 degrees. After I got it all put back together it is a massive relief of nice cool air coming from the vents and the house cooled down nicely within 2 hours.
Nice video Ben!! Videos of live repairs are always fun to watch! I really liked the voiceover that you added after the fact. The extra explanations accompanied the video nicely! I'm learning things from you lol
It's always tricky with the "live" style as it is hard to explain/show all of the troubleshooting steps that you go through in your head. It's kind of amazing how fast you can figure out a problem once you've been doing it for awhile.
Good question! A mechanical failure of bearings is never related the the capacitor as you can physically feel that the motor is "stiff" whether or not the motor is trying to run. If it would spin free then I would be apt to check the capacitor.
Ben, was this work part of your professional job? If so, I'd like to see other work you do on jobs. Also, as a licensed plumber, how often do you work with mechanical and electrical devices? By the way, I know you're thinking of getting your electrician's certificate. Thank you.
You are correct. For my job I did some plumbing but mostly would do troubleshooting work on heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment. So I would work on electrical & mechanical related components nearly every day. Thanks for letting me know that you would like to see more like this!

Good Video!
Don’t forget to go back and clean the condenser 🙂
Have you ever installed a soft start unit for a well pump or residential AC unit?
I am a entry level electrician on can do continuity testing and change capacitor and resister transitor and other electrical component

I see a timer in there - is it for defrost?
Do these systems have hot gas defrost or just heaters?
What the colour code for the universal motor if possible you can send them for me to understand
👍👍👍👍👍👍
You should really use a stick to spin a fan that's not running, it's still dangerous but much less so than using your fingers.
