This is one of the absolute best Software introduction videos I found online. The person who presents this introduction to this software speaks and simultaneously moves the cursor like clockwork. Not one of the usual nervously moves the cursors around the screen, hitting the wrong buttons correctly and trying again. Replaying every scene a few times to connect between what he says and where he clicks usually exceeds my attention span. Thank you.
This worked like a charm. I had ~1TB of pictures and videos from various computers, phones and cameras, with multiple duplicates. I went through the process and it detected all duplocates with no mistakes.
i have a disk 2 TB and once i started (2 minutes ago only) the process it doesnt appear to move yet , i mean there is nothing indicated such as progresion (at the bottom-left) is it normal?
Thanks, that was very helpful! As a RETIRED Professional Photographer, I was constantly backing up onto several drives. Over the years duplication and time have had a toll on my drive space. Adding family photos to the mix as well as cell phone photos, etc., makes the job daunting. This may be the solution to some of the work of fine-tuning my storage! 😀
Thank you for sharing. I will try this out. I recently got a refurbished 12 TB server drive and have copied a half dozen of my old external hard drives to it. I plan on using this software to help me pare down my massive pile of data (with many redundant backups) and create a compiled record of my data, and then back that up on my NAS.
Hey Andy, Great presentation much appreciated 😊 I just wanted to add a tip for anyone using external drives: so in the Base folders field I mistakenly browsed my pictures folder on the external drive first and then the pictures folder on my hard drive with the resultant 'ones to keep' mainly being on the external drive (because they got read first). I aborted the process and have restarted with the hard drive entered first (which has a logical sub folder structure), followed of course by the external drive folders. I should end up with a lot less work. Cant wait to hit that delete button!
Andy, can you do a video on Windows SyncToy and how it compares to this? I really would like to go through my 100tb of Photos and video and media and find all the duplicates in a more Visual way. Would love to see something like the tools I used in the Windows 7 / XP days or when I was in Mac OSX. There sure seems to be a lack of GUI based tools for Linux, and over the years, Windows File manager is just not keeping up doing its ONE job it use to be good at. Thanks Andy! Great video, and wonderful tutorial!
Thanks for the super thanks Mickey. I'm not too familiar with SyncToy but I understand it's been discontinued and not compatible with Windows 11? Let me look into it. Thanks again.
Excellent video. Laymans language, and step by step instructions at a controlled pace helped me get my external HD cleaned of nearly 20GB of Duplicate Mp3s. Thank you so much!
I do not usually comment but I have to here to share that your sincerity really shows in videos. Thanks. Great presentation. Super useful. You got a new Subscriber. :)
Andy, I want to THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your excellent presentation on this subject. You explained how to do this process so that people like me can follow you with ease. I greatly appreciate you!!! I have subscribed and I will be following you and I look forward to checking out many more of you videos. Again, I THANK YOU!!!! May you have a blessed day!!!
Thank you, this will help with redundancy. As a musician, I have to be extremely careful not to delete files that are meant to be located in multiple locations, for example, a drum sample comes from a master library in the project, when the project is saved, it includes that sample in the project folder, and if it's missing, it will search for a file of the same name, but kick.wav could be a different sound depending what drum kit it's from. The simple solution is excluding project files. Space isn't a concern at all, I've just got backups of backups of backups, but don't really need so many copies.
A great product. I've been looking for a simple solution for this for a long time, and this is it. And the step by step explanation is excellent. I subscribed based on this alone. I looked and saw other vids in your channel that I'll be able to use as well. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for short but detailed video. I really needed some tools like this one. I hope I get to see more variety of tools in your videos which help in day to day scenarios. Thanks once again!
Thank you so much. I'd searched for and tested so many pieces of software and could not manage to find one that was free, easy to use, and complete. The tutorial and the recommendation are superb. thanks!
Thank you so much Andy! I was having pc issues so made duplicates, even triplicates of files just in case I lost everything. You made it so clear on how to use the software to clean up my 2 hard drives and 3 external. I took your advice and tested the software to make sure I understood how it works. It is fast and works beautifully. I subscribed and will soon check out your other videos to learn more. Thanks AGAIN!!
Thank you so much! You are a lifesaver, and WOW, it would have taken me hours to clear up my files. I really appreciate you taking the time to create this video and share it!
Thank you Andy! you have made this process much less intimidating. You're explanations have been "dumbed down" for a computer illiterate like me. Great job of explaining in simplified language.
Excelent tute! Very well explainded and demonstrated. Thank you much. Request/suggestion for additional feature: Ten's of thousands of people are looking for a way to weed out duplicate image files. It would be a big help to have a option to display a view window, that would immediately display the image of each file when you click on it in the result list, rather than needing to R-click and opening each file in a separate window.
I watched this video as a last resort. Now it is my first choice. I need this kind of precision with re to file elements. DATA loss anxiety gone. I was dreading this task. . . .now I'm kind of looking forward to it.
Great presentation. Much more professional than the norm. I am sure I will love your channel from just a quick look at the topics. So many things that I want to learn more about.
Really good video. Thanks for taking the time to put it up for me and everyone else. It's always nice to find videos and information that help us solve problems. Thanks, Andy.
A very good overview of a very good program. The program is powerful and your overview was straight forward. Thank you. I played the Video a few times so that I understood the process and started as you suggested in small bites. One of the best explanations of one of the best instructional programs I have watched. Well done - many thanks.
There are 2 programs that I have used that are much better than this program: Duplicate Cleaner and Beyond Comparison. I find that I need both programs for different reasons. Duplicate Cleaner is probably the most useful. It will do what the program in the video does. The improvement in Duplicate Cleaner is the automation in selecting the duplicate files, which is a major pain when you have 20,000 duplicate files. It would take forever to click every single file. Further, you can't simply have the program randomly pick one of the duplicates-as the program in this video-does because one of the folders might be in a better location. For example, you want to get rid of the duplicate within the Downloads folder. With Duplicate Cleaner, you can designate which file is automatically chosen. Beyond Comparison is good to compare the contents of two folders side-by-side. You can't do this with Duplicate Cleaner. Say you have a duplicate folder but some files have been modified. This program will help you figure out which files to keep and discard.
Thanks. There are so many free delete programs. I just bought a 5 TB drive to transfer all my files from many hard drives into one for sorting, deleting. I know I duplicated many in myn process of archiving over the years. NOW the question is how to set up my file ORGINIZATION. Some say organize by year? I think I will have top folders of pictures, video, documents (pdf, word, text). Then sub divide into Categories that are meaningful to me, Home, Travel, Work, Hobbies, Taxes, Financial..... etc. I could divide it further by year or years. That will be work but it has been bothering me for a long time. I have so much great info on my computer but can't really find it or know it is there.
All of my files on C:/ drive shows 0 duplicate group but I do have duplicate number, why is that? Aslo if it shows two identical files, do i delete both or keep one?
Andy, congrats on your very clear and much needed tutorial! I want to be sure of one thing however: when I go to the duplicate group number and select 2 and above, it will delete only the duplicates but preserve the original file, correct?

@@kdepfullblc3338 it will take a long time for 2tb of data. Perhaps even overnight.
finally i ve done it thanks

Andy, Thank you so much for explaining this process! Even more, the way you explained it made it much easier to follow along.

Thank you! you helped solve my problem 💚
A lot to process but thank you very much because I really need to consolidate a few hard drives with duplicate files!
When I delete all - does that keep the original and only delete the duplicates of that? Or does the original get deleted too?
Wow! this was very informative and very well explained. thank you so much! I am not very computer savvy but I think I can do this
Great explanation, thank you!

it took me long to search but its worth it now i have 118GB
will this work for a remote NAS on the local network ?
That's what I want it for also, my nas is full
