    ...Six months.
    We've been told about this back in 2021.
    Where the HECK did all that time go. It barely even feels like it's been a month since then.
    (I hope it doesn't end up feeling rude to Mal, who may just have felt the exact opposite)

    Congrats to Mal on the super recovery from Endo. Also good vibes to Stephen to the longer journey of less stress in his life. It's a path that everyone walks, and it's hard to accept at times, but I'm sure he'll figure out the best balance with his work passions and his health.

    If you haven't already done a FODMAP elimination diet Stephen, I would strongly suggest looking into it and consider working with a dietitian to start one. I've just finished mine, and I can honestly say it completely changed my perspective on how my stomach should feel. I've had IBS-like symptoms for years, and as you can probably relate to, I had long since forgotten what it feels like for my stomach to work "normally". Talking to other people in my life, I'd ask them "Do you not go to the bathroom like 9+ times a day?" and they'd be like "Uh, no". Part of my IBS journey has been realizing I can't eat what other people eat and expect to be okay. My girlfriend went vegetarian a few years ago, and I began eating a lot more vegetables with her, since I love to cook for her. But I can't eat all the same vegetables as her because some of them are high in FODMAPs and they cause my stomach to hurt. So even when I was eating "healthy veggies", I was having a lot of pain. Finally after years of putting it off, I did a strict FODMAP (+ no gluten) elimination diet for two weeks and am now in the reintroduction phase. While it was difficult to have such a limited diet for two weeks, my stomach felt normal and calm while I was on it. Now that I'm reintroducing foods, it's really obvious which ones give me stomach pain, since I know my baseline again. Now in the future, I know which foods to avoid or limit, because I know they'll cause me pain. And just having that knowledge means I can finally feel like I can have control over my stomach and life again. Anyways, hope you and Mal feel good and stay healthy for years and years to come.

    Mal, I'm so, so, so happy for you, that this awful and way too long chapter of your life is basically closed now. When you said you'd only taken a Tylenol a few times since surgery day in November and that it was just for headaches, I honestly felt like bawling like a kid. It's been emotional but also inspiring to see your journey from that day right out of surgery when you started doing the little shuffle-walks around the Airbnb, to now when DDR is finally a possibility again. Ahhh. I can't describe how happy this makes me and I know it sounds weird from someone you don't know but. Still. ❤️

    Firstly, congrats to Mal for fully healing! I’m so happy for her that she doesn’t have to take Tylenol everyday now.
    Secondly, my mom has IBS-D and has been on dicyclomine and diphenoxylate. It’s worked great with flare ups. She rolled her eyes at your doctor saying “Lessen your stress” cuz that’s what hers said. Like it’s easy to do. She says hang in there and is praying for you!

    Man, this really reminds me of what I like to call The Eczema Arc. It was a year of dermatology visits before my allergist said: oh hey, that's eczema! No one had any clue until yet another fresh pair of eyes came and looked at it.
    Also, relaxation is different for everyone. These past few years have been hard. From the way you seem to roll, I'd recommend just spending time with your friends just to spend time with them. Not for the sake of any project, but just to spend time with them.

    I was following you guys just on your Twitch for your LP live streams and had seen back in November or early December Stephen was by himself and had mentioned Mal was downstairs recovering from her surgery and had no idea what was happening and found the vlog talking about the endo and her getting ready for surgery and have followed it since. It is incredibly heartwarming to see her go from that vlog just looking so sad and miserable (but hopeful) to so bright and happy. She seems free now and that's really awesome to see.

    So very happy for Mal, it's really touching seeing her this happy even though this same 6 months milestone is a little bleaker for me as on the same day I badly injured two fingers on my left hand. Mal I'm SO happy for you! That you're no longer in pain, and are fully recovered. And Stephen im really glad you don't have crohns its a awful disease to have and can cause horrible things to happen as well as major diet restrictions. That being said I second about suddenly stopping the medicine that you are on it can cause much worse symptoms and is recommended to just titrate down. Also I do have to add that a friend of mine that also has IBD it took 3 colonoscopies to show that she has colitis and im not sure why it took so many tests but yeah not always the first time can they tell, different doctors have different opinions and views I guess so if you still haven't found answers id recommend a second opinion, its always good!

    Still so glad that Mal's doing so much better 6 months on now :D
    10:40 "I don't think you're supposed to be on Pantoprazole/Omeprazole for a while" "Obviously everyone mileage may vary depending on what their circumstances are, some folks may need to be on this medicine forever" - As someone who has been on Omeprazole for like, 12 years now, yeah. The symptoms you've complained of do not match why I'm on 'em long term (really bad chronic acid reflux), but again, mileage may vary!
    SURE SUCKS THOUGH. I'm hoping seeing what normal + potentially seeing if any specific foods flare things up for you helps you out D;

    First off I don't comment a lot but I am extremely happy Mal is feeling well and glad her quality of life has improved. IBS does make sense with stress flaring it up. Mal having the surgery, the insurance issues, channel work around and life in general is the recipe for a perfect storm of stress that would flare something like IBS up. Still wish something more concrete came from the tests though and hopefully Stephen's quality of life improves that way both of you can move on from these health issues.

    And Stephen, sorry to hear that the result is basically the one that isn't "fixed" exactly. I (this is Mike commenting) have had my struggles with IBS, not to the level of discomfort you have experienced, but it has certainly had plenty of pain along the way. What has helped me when it flares up is to go on as close to a no-fat diet as possible. Just cut out all foods with anything but very low fat content for 2-3 weeks and see if you improve. It might not help, obviously everyone's system reacts differently to different things, but hey, the more we all share about health the better!

    • @TitaniaBird
      @TitaniaBird 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also have IBS, and the only reliable way for me to manage it is to minimize the things that trigger it as much as I can (pizza is a near-certain trigger for me, much to my consternation) and keep a ready supply of fiber capsules and anti-diarrheal medicine. ...And stool softener just for those moments where, well...you're backed up.
      The part that might be the worst for you, Stephen? If your IBS is anything like mine, coffee might be a trigger for it. Just...keep that in mind.

  • @allisonmanning5287
    @allisonmanning5287 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So sorry to hear that your issue hasn't yet been resolved, Stephen. I know how frustrating it can be to have something hurt and just not have a clear-cut path to recovery.
    On the stress front- I truly believe the reason I suddenly developed stomach pain from over acid production was due to the pandemic. I have probably always had this issue, but I'd never experienced pain from it before and didn't even know I had it because it had never been that bad before. After a much shorter round of tests and a year or so of slowly changing up my diet (not a lot, but finding the worst things and cutting down on those) I'm happy to report I am feeling much better, despite the stress not having gone down a lot yet. I hope it will be this way for you, that as you come off the meds and begin to explore changes you'll find that it won't take much to get back to an equilibrium that you can live with. In the meantime, we'll be praying and sending good vibes.

    Been a long time since I sat down and watched a StephenVlog! 🤗 First of all Mal I’m happy to see how beautifully you recovered. Stephen, I also live with Fucked Up Bowel Disease and I’m just hope it stabilizes for you soon. Diet has helped me to an extent, but more so than that fiber supplements seem to minimize the day to day pain for me, if you aren’t already taking them. You seem pretty skeptical about your doctor though, so getting a second opinion from an experienced pharmacist was definitely the right move, and I’d be looking into other doctors for ongoing care if your gut is saying you don’t like her.

    One thing that helped a friend of mine with IBS is that they always buy organic versions of gluten containing foods. Because in the US our wheat products have pesticides that have a history of causing stomach problems in certain people and the organic versions don't contain pesticides.

    IBS can also be medicated long term. I have IBS and I was on a medication called Mebeverine Hydrochloride that's an antispasmodic to relieve the stomach pain and has a MUCH lower instance of side effects than dicyclomine (39% Vs 13%) and I was on that for about 2 years with no noticeable side effects.

    • @Nick9n
      @Nick9n 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also I think it's important to note IBS isn't all about stress, it's a complete imbalance in the way your brain and digestive system interact, and stress is the biggest trigger but not the sole cause.

    Cool to hear about Mal; I'm sure the "milestone" is gratifying. Your bowel issues kind of "comfort" me right now since, on Saturday night/Sunday morning, I had a feeling of incomplete voiding when I urinated. I've had that before, but I made the mistake of looking it up on Google and was reminded of a previous surgery I had, a urethral stricture surgery (basically resolving a stricture, or narrowing due to scar tissue, in my urethra). It sucked big time, particularly the part where I had a catheter for a small time afterwards. And got sepsis as a result. The main problem, though, is that I'm pretty sure the type of surgery I got was a "urethrotomy," which has a whopping success rate of... 0%. Unless the urologist surprised me with a different type, I'm going to have to get another surgery on it, and another catheter afterwards (and probably for at least 2 weeks, which means another chance at sepsis, ugh). But seeing you guys go through difficult medical issues helps me realize that "ordinary" people can have their issues solved-- I use that term since the only ones you'll see on forums and such talking about their struggles are those who have it really bad (why else would someone go into those communities and talk about it?); but you guys just talk about it because it shows up in your life, you get it resolved, and you move on. Hopefully that'll be me in a few months. 🤞

    A diet where you try and remove many triggers as possible is worth checking out. Also resetting your digestive system is worth it every so often. You kind of did that with the colonoscopy but if you go on a very bland diet and then work your way up to more adventurous things then you know exactly what your body is responding to and can get a better sense of what combination of food and stress makes things uncomfortable. Good luck

    I want to hop on here and add on to Stephens Dr appointment on the vlog, (this could be long so buckle up) I’ve had problems with my abdomen as well ever since winter 2016, the doctors couldn’t figure out anything even professional Gastrointestinal doctors just say, it’s just a diet change, in February 2017 I got super dizzy and every day kid you not I was dizzy with low energy and focus 24/7 no breaks, we think that both was similar, later on they wanted me to get CT scans I’ve had multiple CT scans for whatever reason still nothing the doctors still say It was IBS and then in May 2018 I went to the hospital for 6 days because they couldn’t figure it out and still didn’t they said I had Diverticulitis which was supposed to happen to older people, I was 25 at the time so for some reason that didn’t make sense to me, after I left the hospital the people admitted they had no idea and just said I had IBS, so I just said “that’s it I’m done with them” so I went to a Natural Remedy doctor in January of 2019 and I felt progress and while still to this day I still have whatever this is, I felt a lot better than I did before in 2018, heck if it wasn’t for those remedies, I wouldn’t have made my first LP for my channel in June/July of 2019 I’m hoping Stephen doesn’t have what I got because I’ll tell I went through hell at that time and it wasn’t fun

      We did a vlog called “the full story” (11.6.21) where we talk about what was found and done but there’s nothing else to the story otherwise.

      @@user-fc2xk3uv8y Before I had days where I just had to sleep, or days where I had a heating pad- ibuprofen every day, every four hours. Now I only take any pain killers if I have a headache. It doesn’t hurt to sneeze, cough, or exercise anymore. I have energy and overall feel like I can think!

    Hearing Stephens continued battle with all the test he has been going through has just been a wild ride as I have been going through my own gi saga myself
    So I don’t quite remember when I started my journey I feel it was mid 2020 or mid 2021
    I was feeling sick after I would eat so I went to the doctors and was looking to see if possibly it was my gallbladder
    Get a x-ray and the results of that was you are full of poo so they tell me to take a laxative
    Laxative didn’t really help
    Get set up to see a gi doc and they set me up for indo and a colonoscopy because of my family history with colon cancer
    Get that done and they said you have a small amount of crones
    They set me up for another indo and go in and they said you don’t have crones
    Do the pill indo and they say you have crones
    So like Stephen I was kinda hoping that they would have said this is the problem but instead I have just had a back and forth of you have crones and you don’t have it
    And that’s been some time so I’m not recalling events fully as they happened but close enough

    I'm no doctor by any means, so please just take this as an anecdotal sorta thing but, I remember Stephen mentioning that his pain got worse after mal's surgery. Something happened similarly (and is still ongoing) with my husband. We had a sick pet that was getting worse and worse over the months. Eventually, we had to put our rabbit Brillow down. While it was sad to do, it was relief in knowing that she was no longer in pain. And as soon as we were no longer in that stressful situation, my husband's cronic pain got much, much worse. I think when dealing with increase amounts of stress, the body gets so tense that when it's finally time to relax, the body just kinda...collapses a bit. All of this is so to say that I hope you can find some time to truly relax and recoup. I know this probably isn't the SOLUTION, but stress really harms the body. I hope you find the solution you need to feel better, Stephen! And happy 6 month anniversary, Mal!

    Have you tried taking a probiotic before? My ex has IBS and he was able to reduce the symptoms by a significant amount by taking regular probiotics to fix his gut biome.

      I believe he tried one a while back and it didn’t help and may have made things worse.

      He's tried two times, actually. The first time last year (or was it 2020? Can't remember), researching on his own, and the second time just recently, helped by his doctor. None of those treatments worked. In fact, I think the first one just made him more sick.

    So, there was inflammation in the terminal ileum, but a colonoscopy only looks at the colon, not the small intestine. I think.

      Reducing a women to a uterus and saying “she doesn’t have much time yet” is fucking rude as shit. You never know what someone is going through. It’s 20fucking22 and time to stop asking strangers on the internet about pushing out crotch goblins.
