I have been using M1 Max MacBook since 2021 and this is the best purchase I have ever made. The computer works flawlessly. It works and looks as if it is brand new.
I’ve had my MacBook M1 Pro 14” for almost 3 years, and it is AMAZING. I have the base model specs, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD, and it works like a charm. I do everything on it and use it pretty much every day. I am an art student, so I do a lot of heavier graphics work with Adobe and Affinity apps, on top of photo processing and editing for my photography, and it works brilliantly. After all this time, I still have yet to hear the fan turn on! I HIGHLY recommend this laptop. Truth be told, when this one eventually dies, all I’ll probably do is get the same laptop but with a larger SSD. Otherwise, it does everything I need, plus more. P.S. I’ve gotten it to run Minecraft (with Optifine) at almost 400fps consistently while it was raining in-game, with all fancy graphics on. This laptop is no joke.
I am struggling to get the ARM version of Java on mine, assuming it is what you used, how did you get it working ? Mine is intel java, thus I cannot get those crazy FPS numbers.
Purchased M1 Pro 2 years ago. I have a high-end gaming PC for gaming and productivity plus a ps5 at home. Since I purchased this laptop (and it is my first MacOS device in my life) I don't touch my PC, set aside the optimized performance for daily used applications, insanely low power usage (17-40w on media consumption or blender while not rendering) compared to my gaming PC which begins to pull 120 to 300w idle and under load and most importantly this display, my god, this display is magical, so clean and crisp, I can't look at my monitor after working with this laptop and I do have a 700€ HDR 600 monitor but quality can not come even close to this laptop's display. I still love my laptop after 2 years.
Just got an excellent refurbished MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro 8c/14c GPU with 512GB SSD and 16GB RAM for less than $1100 on eBay. I sold my M2 MacBook Air and M1 Mac mini to buy this, and it's been amazing. I do a lot of data merges in InDesign, and my old 27" iMac (2015, i7) couldn't keep up, and would constantly use the fans during complex merges. This is so much faster, quieter, and even easier to use a daily driver both at home and my office. The weight between the 15" Air and the 14" Pro is almost identical, and I don't feel like the screen size is much of a compromise. I was going to get the 16", but feel like the form factor of a 14" laptop is perfect. The 15" Air is a great option, but I needed more memory from the base model, and the price for a refurbished 14" Pro M1 was too good to pass on.
I did have an 14" M1 Pro that I bought the day they launched. I ended up replacing it with an 16" M3 Max late last year and I actually miss it quite a bit. I think moving to the 16" was a mistake for me. The increased GPU power of the Max chip is nice in a couple places, especially with "AI" based tasks, but I think I should have stayed with the 14" form factor. Also, I don't know how true this is, but I feel like the M1 Pro series of MacBooks, the speakers were tuned to emphasize base more then these M3 series are and I liked the sound profile of the M1 better.
Love my M1 MBP 14. I do a lot of photo editing, occasional video, full time podcasting and it is always up to the task. Battery life and fan noise was the biggest thing I appreciated. Switched from 2018 ThinkPad a few years ago and being able to crunch video silently while sitting on my couch is awesome. I think I still prefer the old Thinkpad keyboard, but only barely. Plus the Mac trackpad is leagues better.
M1 Pro 14 inch base model over here and it can handle everything I throw at it. Paid about £1700 with a student discount about 18 months ago and I can't see myself upgrading unless something compelling comes along. I like to keep my tech for as long as possible. Still got my 13 inch unibody 2012. I would recommend this thing all day long. At $1200? That is practically highway robbery! Love this machine almost as much as love my kid. Great video Gary!
I have the same machine, it's still, after 2 and a half year, an unique feeling when I work with it. Every day. The display is awesome, it's really fast, hdmi, card reader, it's perfect in every aspect. Not to mention the sound :) I have a Bluetooth speaker and, because of this incredible sound, I forget to use it.
I have this MacBook! The base 512gb with the double binned M1 Pro chip. It’s absolutely amazing! Super super fast! I use it for light music production and some gaming. It stays super super quiet all the time and it’s just so much nicer than what I had before. I came from a 2013 MacBook Pro 13 inch and the jump is so so big. I got it in February of this year! love my MacBook Pro 14 Inch
Been using mine since it came out. Best computer I've ever had and I've had more than a few. It replaced the previous year's 13" M1 MBP which had replaced a15" i7 MBP that sounded like a hair dryer. The 13" M1 drove me nuts. It would NOT stay connected to my Time Machine and even bricked the TM drive one time. Had to use a dongle for my HDMI monitor and the TM drive and any other drives. Got the 14" Pro and never looked back. Nothing new that has come out since has provoked even the slightest temptation to "upgrade."
Bought a 8g Ram/512gb 13” M1 Pro at Best Buy for $470 after my trade in (original $742). It was $800 off from $1499.99. Can’t wait to get it in my hands. I don’t need any crazy specs and with iCloud don’t need too much storage either. My last MacBook refused to connect to the internet or update so I just decided to upgrade and found a huge deal!
I got the 16 inch M1 Macbook Pro on a big discount a few years ago, and I love it. My only gripe about it is that its heavy to lug around, so from time to time a part of me wishes I had the 14 inch.
I'm still cooking on my M1 14" and it's a trooper! The only thing I would have boosted is probably go with 2TB of storage and max out the memory, but other than that, It's amazing!
Dude, got my Apple Certified Refurbished 16" MBP 2021 at Microcenter for $1299 in December. Microcenter deserves some hype here for those deals and I'll be that guy.
I traded in a 2019 13” MBP (Intel) for a 14” M1 Pro MBP w 32GB of ram and a 1TB SSD literally as soon as it came out and I haven’t looked back since. Display is amazing, and the computer itself performs just like it did when I first got it. It’s an amazing computer. I do a lot of things such as photo editing, video editing, and I even make and produce music on 3 different DAWs and I still haven’t caused a hiccup in performance. It’s a beast and I don’t see myself NEEDING to upgrade for a while. And now that it’s cheaper than it was when it was first released, it’s a no brainer for anyone looking to dip their toes into Apple Silicon! Amazing piece of hardware.
Still my daily driver and not upgrading any time soon, 1TB HD, 32GB Ram, absolute beast, use it daily for coding, running VM's, Docker Containers, etc, etc, never slows down
Still got mine, it still looks brand new and just as snappy as the day I bought it! I won't lie, I'm getting tempted by 16", but I've got 1 more year of AppleCare left on this guy, so I plan to keep it at least until then. It's honestly the best laptop I've ever had. It just works.
Why are you interested in 16? I'm struggling between 14 and 16 inches. It's so hard to choose. Reason being, 14inches is just the best option for the laptop, but I guess I wouldn't get a monitor for a long time. Maybe, your answer will help me.
@@tk4c4 screen real estate really. I've gotten into photo editing recently and the extra space would be nice. But I'm seeing what I can do with the 14" first - there are probably ways to optimize the editing software layout to give me more space.
Got this a couple of years ago, and it still literally feels brand new. My previous macbook showed it’s age after a year but wow this M1 Pro Macbook works flawless till this day. I do use it mainly for Music Production and it is able to do everything without breaking a sweat. That Promotion screen really is beautiful. I won’t be upgrading for years
I have a MBP from 2014 and its still going strong. Finished college with it, used it for all my work teaching in Thailand for almost 2 years, took it with me to live in Australia for almost 2 years, used it for more school for another 2 years, and now using it for work. But I made a mistake and updated to the newest OS and now its age is finally showing. Now im gonna purchase a refurbished M1. Hopefully this gives me another good 10yrs of use
I currently own the M3 Pro MacBook Pro 18GB/512GB Space Black, but I baby mine and didn't want to actually take it out of the house! (I know) So I have just managed to get myself the M1 Pro 14, 10 core CPU/16 core GPU 16GB/1TB for £690!! What a saving, these newer models do not seem to be keeping their value as well as Macs used to, which is weird. Anyway I have been watching your vids for a little while, and I must say I love what you do! Keep up the great work. Almost time for M4 Macs haha..
I bought it new at the beginning of 2023 from Costco for $1500. Terrific purchase and still feels like new. It's not like editing 4k video will be miles faster in the next 5 years.
Just bought it (the M1 Max) for music production like a month ago. I was working on a macbook with Intel before. You can‘t imagine how happy I am with this beast!!
AIR? much more portable and comfortable to use in lap... Like laptop should be. Now only portable laptop is Macbook Air 13" m2/m3. Pity there is no lightweight Macbook Pro 13" anymore. 14" is like a brick, thick and heavy
@@messicomps344 I meant ergonomically, and comfort wise air is good, but 13.3 MBP is even better. As for portability, battery is still the best in 13 m1 MBP, it is much colder and comfier shape in lap. Carrying size/weight does not matter much. As for AIR m3 I was very disappointed, weak battery, getting too hot (both chassis and the screen). M1 is the king still, went back to it 13.3 mbp :) I can carry 20 laptops in backpack, that is not a problem 😂
Who agrees that Apple should rename the M pro chips to M plus because the macbook is already named pro so it can get confusing on what exact model you’re talking about.
Completely agree. I am from South Africa and visited the states in December and after watching many videos on TH-cam managed to get myself a refurbished MB Pro M1 Pro 16" at MicroCenter. Best deal ever :)
Got one for $900 on offer up. Previously owned by software engineer who kept it in pristine condition. Like, perfect. Threw in unused Magic Mouse and carrying case.
I'm (slowly) saving up to buy a computer like this, so I'm glad to hear it still holds up! The importance of battery life cannot be overstated. My work-provided laptop is a gaming laptop (I'm a motion graphic designer), so battery life was not a consideration for the company that built it. Even doing very light tasks like working through a script in a word document my battery life is ~45 minutes to 1.5 hours (and the charger is a BEAST). It's basically an all-in-one computer with an attached keyboard and trackpad.
I bought my m1 pro with my first salary in India for around 1650$, Oct 2022, it took my whole salary but still my most previous and loved thing in my life.
Those laptops may be a bit old but still work like a gem 💎 My still is running smooth and get plenty of usage where by the end of the day I have 30-40% battery wise. Worth it 10/10😊❤
This is a great semi-budget offering if you need a laptop that's pretty powerful and has a good battery life, and also you need to run desktop applications on it. One option I don't see talked about often, though, and one I'm happy with, is using a tablet as a laptop. Personally I have an iPad Air 5 255gb, Logitech's combo touch case for it (keyboard, trackpad, and stand), and an Apple Pencil. Came out to $900 new, which was about what the M1 Macbook Air was when I bought it, and its keyboard comes off plus it has a touchscreen and a stylus, making it a perfect hybrid device. Smaller and lighter too, which is a plus in my eyes. My one regret with that purchase is that, for the things I personally do on it, I really don't need that much power, and I could have gone with a $400 Samsung tablet and a $100 keyboard case and I wouldn't have noticed the difference. Or if I decided Apple was a must for the OS (personally I think Samsung does a tablet OS better, but I only found that out 6 months ago, well after I bought the iPad), the iPad 10 with a Logitech keyboard comes out to about $500 as well, albeit without the included stylus or 128gb base storage the Samsung equivalent comes with. Basically I overspent on specs I didn't need, but the concept of a tablet/laptop hybrid is really nice for the sorts of everyday tasks most people will use - most desktop programs are available on tablets too.
had the M1 pro 14' mbp since 2021 and it still feels super fast and the display is amazing. I don't feel left behind with all the newer models coming out since the design and screen specs are exactly the same. I'll be using this until a newer design language is adopted by Apple, maybe in 3-4 years haha.
Great video Gary, and if you keep a sharp eye out at eBay you can get even more awesome deals. A couple of months ago I picked up an M1 Max MacBook Pro 14 for $1725 with annually renewable AppleCare+, 24c GPU, 32gb ram AND 2tb ssd.
Went with the M1 max 16, but everything still applies. This is my first macOS device and it has been the most reliable and consistent laptop experience I’ve ever had! This can easily last me another 3-4 years
as soon as 2020's hit I got all m1's ,gold MacBook 13 inch air standard specs, macbook pro 13 inch m1 standard specs, and the last purchase Macbook 14 inch m1 standard specs, all 3 do its just due for me and reviews like this make me glad I made all these purchases, as soon as the m1's hit the market I knew they would be good for a while. almost 4-5yrs later and they all solid still💵
just bought this magnificent machine 2 days ago with these specs: 1TB storage, 16GB RAM for 1280$ and it's totally new not a refurbished unit, an exceptional deal and I'm so happy with my purchase
Finally a video that makes sense, had this laptop for a while M1 Max 14” 1TB bought new and to this day can’t justify getting anything else. Sure the weight of an air would be great but not for the redux in screen, sound, and performance.
Just bought mine, found one with 32gb of ram used, but battery on 100 cycles and 97% capacity, for 1200$. Worth every penny, the battery and performance on battery is top notch, coming from windows laptop and it pretty much never gets hot
I got a 16 inch macbook pro m1 MAX ram 64 gpu core for 1600 dollars at black friday last year, upgraded over my existing 14 inch m1 pro macbook. My little brother just bought a pre owned 16 inch m1 pro 16gpu core for 900 dollars last week, practically brand new, battery still at 95% only a year old. you're sometimes able to get these beasts for a steal.
Got the M1 MacBook Pro 14 when it came out in November 2021 and it still is by far the best computer I’ve ever had. Still incredibly powerful, fast, and reliable. One of the all-time greatest laptops Apple has ever made, in my opinion, and I’ve been a Mac user since 2009.
I bought few days ago an M1 Pro 16 with 32 ram 1TB SSD for a good price to replace my wive’s same laptop, but with 16/500 version, that was much more expensive when it comes out. I took her old laptop and resented it for myself. It has more than 300 charge cycle, but the battery still good. And it looks like new. I really suggest everyone to take an old MacBook if you don’t want everything new, just because it makes you happy. Or you’re working with 3D and you would have benefit from new m3
I have this 14 inch M1 pro 16G 1TB since 2 year ago, enough power for my use (day use and photo editing), the only downside are the weight and some issue flickering when connect big monitor.
I've had the M1 pro for a couple years, generally, it's been very good although the diagnostics show trackpad problem and it has crashed a few times. But when it works, it's fantastic.
$688 from best buy after amazon prime day. Traded in old PS4, PS4 Pro, and a samsung tablet to pay for half of that - i paid $300 for this laptop and im glad to see this video confirming it was the best option compared to shucking out money for specs i dont need
This is exactly what I'm going for this summer. The m3 MacBook air is cute and all, and for sure it'd be nice to unbox my first Apple product brand new, but honestly here in France the m3 Air with the same storage and ram configurations is 400 euros more expensive than a certified refurbished m1 pro 14 and 16 inch. That too with less ports, a worse screen, no fan... Nah. The M1 Pro is ludicrously good and is definitely going to do me plenty of good for the next 5 years until the end of my masters program
I’ve had mine for nearly 2 years. I was replacing my 2018 15inch MacBook Pro. I was torn between this 14 inch vs the 16 inch. I do miss the larger display for certain tasks but the portability affects my everyday use much more. I will only be replacing this when better screen tech like OLED comes along. It does everything I need it to so definitely no need to trade in for the newer M2 or M3 pro processors. My battery is at 89% health now so I assume I might need to fork out for a new battery at some point down the line.
Recently traded my M1 MBA for a base M1 Pro 14 and the screen alone is reason enough to do so. The 14” higher resolution let me see more stuff in Numbers and the mail app does not feel cramped Sure it is a bit heavier compared to the MBA but still more “backpack friendly” than its 16” brother

Been using this for two years and I never felt it's old. Always performs like it's brand new. :D
I got an M1 Max with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD on a great sale value here in Colombia, best buy ever!
I literally just got one. I love it. It's replacing my 16" 2019 MacBook Pro. I loved that one too but this M1 14" is great.
Got one off ebay a week ago! 1TB ssd and 32gb RAM, for $1400. Battery is 90%, and it’s got some dings in the casing, but definitely worth it
I have this MacBook!
Bought the 16“ M1 Pro a few weeks ago and couldn’t be happier
Where did you get it from?
its heavy thou
Had this for 2 years. Probably won’t need a new computer for a really long time. This thing is a beast!
Bought one at the end of 2023 for £1200, best computer I've owned.
Nice man thats a great deal
I still have my M1 Pro and it's still performing like brand new! :)
Amazing piece of hardware.
just bought one this week, I have absolutely no complains
I got this back when it first released, easily the best computer I’ve ever owned. It’s incredible.
Still my daily driver and not upgrading any time soon, 1TB HD, 32GB Ram, absolute beast, use it daily for coding, running VM's, Docker Containers, etc, etc, never slows down
Can i ask how much ram u have on it?
Still have my 14 inch M1 Pro over a year works like a beast!
Bought mine immediately after the reveal keynote and it's still perfect!
I watched your videos when it first came out and pulled the trigger, still works amazing with no issues!
Still loving my 16" M1 Pro. No M3 Pro envy. Nada! 💯
I bought it new at the beginning of 2023 from Costco for $1500. Terrific purchase and still feels like new. It's not like editing 4k video will be miles faster in the next 5 years.
nearly a year ago i got the M1 Pro MBP 16'' brand new under 2K $. and I never looked back 😍
I love this computer--easily the best, quietest laptop I've owned. I got it last year and it still works beautifully!
Still rocking on my 2015 MBA. As my second computer with a M2 MacMini as the primary.
Just bought it (the M1 Max) for music production like a month ago. I was working on a macbook with Intel before. You can‘t imagine how happy I am with this beast!!
I’m seeking to buy a used 14” M1 Pro MacBook Pro and I think this maybe the key video for me to confirm my purchase.
I don't have anything to compare my 14 Macbook Pro from 2021 (M1/10/16/32 GoM) but it runs great and I plan to have it for a very long time.
M3 Air 13 with 16/512 was 1750 euro, M1 pro 14 16/1TB 10c16g was 1600 euro new refurbished from apple. Guess what I bought?
AIR? much more portable and comfortable to use in lap... Like laptop should be. Now only portable laptop is Macbook Air 13" m2/m3. Pity there is no lightweight Macbook Pro 13" anymore. 14" is like a brick, thick and heavy
where did you purchase from?
@@jutjub22if the 14 inch isn’t portable then my guy you need to lift some weights
M1 is the king still, went back to it 13.3 mbp :)
I can carry 20 laptops in backpack, that is not a problem 😂
Who agrees that Apple should rename the M pro chips to M plus because the macbook is already named pro so it can get confusing on what exact model you’re talking about.
Completely agree. I am from South Africa and visited the states in December and after watching many videos on TH-cam managed to get myself a refurbished MB Pro M1 Pro 16" at MicroCenter. Best deal ever :)
The M1 Pro model I have is all the laptop I need even for decent sized music projects.
Finally coming from intel i9, is m3 max the most logical upgrade path, price not being a factor?
I own it since 2022 and it is still rockin'!!! One of the best mac I owned since 2001!!!
Got one for $900 on offer up. Previously owned by software engineer who kept it in pristine condition. Like, perfect. Threw in unused Magic Mouse and carrying case.
My 14" M1 MacBook Pro has been a trusty companion for 2 1/2 years. Build quality and brisk performance are highlights.
Just got a 16” MBP M1 Pro from Best Buy certified refurb for 1,019. 💪🏼
I bought my m1 pro with my first salary in India for around 1650$, Oct 2022, it took my whole salary but still my most previous and loved thing in my life.
Its still Rocking btw!
M1 Pro 14 was the first Macbook I purchased (upgraded to 32gb ram) - still feel brand new
had the M1 pro 14' mbp since 2021 and it still feels super fast and the display is amazing. I don't feel left behind with all the newer models coming out since the design and screen specs are exactly the same. I'll be using this until a newer design language is adopted by Apple, maybe in 3-4 years haha.
about six months ago, I bought a 16 inch MacBook Pro M1 16 GB of ram one terabyte SSD for $1400 refurbished from eBay and I’m extremely happy with it!
Exactly. And I did just that a month ago. I went beyond basic spec, and mind you I switched from M1 13 inch and I felt the upgrade soooo much…
Great video Gary, and if you keep a sharp eye out at eBay you can get even more awesome deals.
Where did you get yours brand new from?
Just snagged one of these for $1000 definitely worth it!
Where’d you get it?
Mine arrives tomorrow. Lifelong Windows user. Can't wait!
Had this one since it came out and mostly keep it on the charger and my battery is still at 100% health
Selling my MacBook Pro m1pro 14 inch 1 tb 16gb ram 10c/16c. Battery health 97% with original box, charger and protective shell. Mint condition.
$688 from best buy after amazon prime day. Traded in old PS4, PS4 Pro, and a samsung tablet to pay for half of that - i paid $300 for this laptop and im glad to see this video confirming it was the best option compared to shucking out money for specs i dont need
Still got mine! And still looks brand new, what a beast man.
My M1 Pro comes in today hopefully !
Got this laptop , Its honestly the best laptop ever. Dont need another. been running for over a year going to 2 . absolute beast 💪
The 14” higher resolution let me see more stuff in Numbers and the mail app does not feel cramped
Sure it is a bit heavier compared to the MBA but still more “backpack friendly” than its 16” brother
