I would definitely like to hear more about the gems or minerals you are harvesting. How do humans use them and value them? Pictures of the outcomes of these uses. Shouldn’t be hard for ya and it would increase everyone’s understanding and entertainment experience. I think you guys are a great little family spending lots of outdoor time together. So cool. Thanx -random viewer
Hahahaha, the way this is worded makes it sound like you're ET looking to acquire the knowledge of the humans. But, I agree, the whole time I was wondering what the heck is the useful purpose of such tiny gems in such small quantities. I know in industrial use very very large quantities of very small gems is useful for cutting and abrasive work by pressure blasting with them (with water or air) at other objects. Maybe they make sand art jars filled with layers of different colored gems?
My ex bf had a giant aquarium with crushed gemstones for the sand. It was a blend of garnet, aquamarine, peridot and a few other things. He had it lit from the bottom and it was stunning.
Dan, Could you ever harvest garnets of this type in a "small industrial" level to sell for aquarium gravel? Would be amazing to have an aquarium lined with this material
Be careful with garnets in aquariums,I only say this because they contain iron, aluminium and magnesium ions which if concentrated into an aquarium will probably end up poisoning your fish. Also there an algae that thrives on iron rich water and it produces toxic waste. Would look awesome though.. 👍
My grandpa panned for gold. One of the times I went with him there were these beautiful little red stones on the sand. I asked him what they were he said oh they're just garnets they're not worth anything. Then a few years ago while watching QVC shopping Channel they were selling garnet jewelry That's when learned that the ones I found as a child were garnets I wish I would have kept the ones I found with grandpa 😔 So I just ordered a pound of your garnet sand so I can make up for not keeping the ones when I was a child with my awesome grandpa. This is a fun video thank you 🙋♀️

Pov (point of view) is nice , others tend to just look at the ground or a walking. Or just a close up. d working while you teach instead of just looking at the camera to talk
Interesting. So by logic, if you're wanting larger garnets, and from what I can see the majority are equally sized at this location in the river, it stands to reason that they are all getting roughly the same level of wear, then you need to go up river closer to the original source to find larger, less river warn stones.

That was the most fun Ive had in my entire life and I wasnt even there!!!! Thank you!!!
All his vids have that joie de vivre. It's refreshing.
Not sure why I been recommended your channel. I watch storage unit auctions, but have really enjoyed it. Such a beautiful place you live in all your videos.
Would love a small jar of the garnets for my daughter. Even the tiny stuff. She would go crazy. Loves her rocks n minerals. Lucky man. As usual great video.
Me too! For my granddaughter!
Just saying "hello" to your happy family and to wish you more luck in your hunting for jewels! I enjoyed watching and live people with positivity!
Hey Dan get yourself a large Neodymium magnet to separate those high Iron Garnets.
Neodymium magnets shouldn't become wet. Let the samples dry first.
That a great idea
Took the comment right from my fingers lol and you can put your neodymium magnet in a thin plastic bag to keep it from getting wet if thats really something that shouldnt happen. I do it even with dry material just to keel my magnet clean
@@joewoodchuck3824 that is what PVC pipe is for.
Hopefully they're using a coated neodymium or a different type.
So cool. Thanx

The bots are becoming sentient.
Sir, you have a beautiful family.
A family that gems together, stays together!
I remember panning for gold in Yale, a seeing parts of the shoreline blood red with garnets; found a nugget sized of a small pea.
@@keithkrafting1334 Enjoy the high water
That rock full of garnets looked like a petrified chocolate chip cookie!
That was sweet! Very shiny!
i know right
Ikr
Wow, not sure I would ever go home if I found that many garnets lol
Dan, Could you ever harvest garnets of this type in a "small industrial" level to sell for aquarium gravel? Would be amazing to have an aquarium lined with this material
I totally agree with you of having a substrate of nothing but garnets for an aquarium 🤘🤘🤘
Dude that would be epic
I have a 55 gallon tank...That would be the ENY of ALL MY FRIENDS! 🥰🥰
Be careful with garnets in aquariums,I only say this because they contain iron, aluminium and magnesium ions which if concentrated into an aquarium will probably end up poisoning your fish.
Also there an algae that thrives on iron rich water and it produces toxic waste.
Would look awesome though.. 👍
@@fishyfingers3165 sounding off like an old salt
Props to him for counting every single gemstone on that beach!
I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota and We have garnets everywhere
Ooooh Matthew would love to come and see. I'm in Iowa. Seems all I can find d is corn...lol
Well unles the size is significant enough for faceting, otherwise I see it just as abrasive material.
@@thatsawesome2060 we have many sizes the black hills is known for its gold and gems
Just a panned a bunch last week. I live 15 m from Mt. Rushmore. Love the Black Hills.
@@cmottBHBJJ i live about a half hour away from thear myself
Love your channel. Thanks for the great times. I have learned alot from you. Thank you
My grandpa panned for gold.
One of the times I went with him
there were these beautiful little red stones on the sand.
I asked him what they were
he said oh they're just garnets
they're not worth anything.
Then a few years ago while watching QVC shopping Channel
they were selling garnet jewelry
That's when learned that the ones I found as a child were garnets
I wish I would have kept the ones I found with grandpa 😔
So
I just ordered a pound of your garnet sand
so I can make up for not keeping the ones when I was a child
with my awesome grandpa.
This is a fun video thank you 🙋♀️
QVC sold rubbish over priced jewellery
I Love involving my children in activities like this, SO many times I have taken my kids to old dried up riverbeds and overflow passes build into the mountains, always looking for fossil rocks, never came home empty handed! I hope my children will remember and have a love for the natural world that I have. Finding garnets like this would be an awesome thing to do, I had no idea that things like this were so close to me. Are you near the Big Silver Creek Power generation plant? I would love to take my kids there, perhaps pan some beautiful garnets to take home! Perhaps you have a GPS location You wouldn't mind sharing? Message me if you have any questions or comments, Dan! Great video, your optimistic and outgoing personality makes watching your videos a genuine pleasure!
his son was so bored xD you have a really cool father bro!!!!
Really though
They probably don't like the camera 📸

Very much looking forward to this video. I love garnets, even the small ones. Hope you found some good ones.
As a January baby of course garnets are my favourite gemstones. Watching how the sun makes even the natural stone glow like embers is mesmerizing. Bucket list location! Thanks for sharing!
This family are doing a good job for their future. Well done. Love U all ❤⚘❤
we used to have tons of these in the sand at my school, we would always call them 'sand rubies'.
for the longest time i never knew what they actually were, it's cool to know!!!
I'm here just appreciating their vibrant red hair amidst all this.
I am new and this was actually pretty cool
Thats garnet dust
You def earned my sub Dan, these videos are entertaining and educational, its beautiful seeing these stones found.
You are truly blessed that your family takes an interest in your hobbies and spends time with you enjoying them. It's always more fun to do things like this with someone who understands the excitement of finding treasures and enjoys doing so. Happy gold and gem hunting!

My house is close ish to a river like that, I have sorted through so much dirt and have like 20 of those huge blue tub full of garnets
In the 🇺🇸? Usa
The Rio Grande has some gemmy surprises
Wish I could do that
It sounds like fun, but I have a bad back oh well.
Connie Carroll I’m in a wheelchair, if there’s a will there’s a way
I learned so much and found easy to understand how and why your methods are so productive , along with watching you and the work you do it's a pleasure to follow .
I like it!
