I like Big the Cat for being the loveable oaf that he is. Sure his voice lacks any type of emotion and you’d not be wrong to think he was on anti-depressants based upon how spaced out he is. Heck, even his appearances you mentioned have been lacklustre... But they have been far more important to the franchise than anything Fang the Sniper, Bark the Polar Bear, Bean the Dynamite or even Team Chaotix has ever attempted to achieve.
Tentacle Touchy Ya know, i was ready to defend Fang and those guys for a second ...but you actually do raise a good point. Fang as cool as he his has hardly contributed anything to the game series and his fanbase seems to have been entirely formed from other outlets like the comic book version of him. Bark (i love that guy) and Bean obviously were fighting game combatants made by AM2 and were never intended to go further than that until Archie put them in the comics as well so you've got a point there too. Chaotix on the other hand ...i dunno. I feel they offer 'more' than Big ever could but it always feels like their inclusions are too few and far between. The Chaotix are in my eyes an awesome crew of characters to have in the Sonic Universe, they're just never really given much to do and anything they do end up doing lacks any sort of importance.

Believe it or not, but Big the Cat has actually become a pretty active character in the Sonic Comics. If I'm not mistaken, he's even become an official Freedom Fighter and goes on several missions with the others. And Froggy isn't even a driving force for Big to do so. He's really there simply to help out his friends save the world.
I've always had a soft spot for Big the Cat, mainly because of his design. Big, relaxed, likes fishing, and a bit slow. A very big contrast to everyone else in the series, and that made him stand out so much for me that I couldn't really dislike him. Really shows how simply the design of a character can have such a lasting impression on people, even if it's presented badly. Now, if only SEGA could do something with that design...
***** Honestly, fishing in a Sonic game was never going to be a great inclusion to a series known for adventuring and speed, so the fact that his entire gameplay mechanic was just fishing mean people hated playing as the character and in turn they ended up hating the character himself. Well, it's that and the voice. The voice seems to get on a lot of peoples nerves ..so i came to the conclusion that if they had given Big a much more sensible and approachable voice then that would have soften the blow of having to play fishing in a Sonic game, ya know? But yeah, my opinion of Big has changed since doing this episode. Outside of the confinements of the games he is placed in he actually comes across as a pretty decent character. I would even welcome him back in to the series with open arms, if they could just not bring that voice with him. I'd even take the fishing levels again, lol (ok, that's probably a bit much).
I think the reason Big is appreciated as much as he is is because he was the pretty much the sole example of a more simple and more "Sonic" type of character in the "adventure era" of the series. The others (Omega, Rouge, Shadow) all pushed Sonic into that dark and edgy phase that a lot of us want to forget. Big is a dopey, simple guy with a simple story that's reminiscent of the simple stories that frame the genesis classics and thus sticks out more as a positive character to some who dislike the "OW. THE EDGE." that the Dreamcast era began.
+Tom Redfield I think a major reason why many people (including myself) don't like the "edgy" style of Sonic storytelling is because it just doesn't fit well. I mean the original game featured a fast running blue hedgehog chasing after and foiling the schemes of an obese mad scientist. Now take those very characters and stick them in a dramatic super-serious world, and this is the reaction you'll get from your followers: ** We can't take them seriously, because they were never meant to be taken seriously!
+Nintendotron64 The only games that seemed to be 'super serious' to me where Shadow and Sonic 06. Even SA2 didn't try to take itself super seriously, honestly it was more about character development than anything.

MegaSparkster Oh E-102 Gamma? Yes, i do. I definitely plan on doing as many Sonic characters as i can, Gamma is one i find very interesting and will definitely be talking about at some point. It might not be for a little while yet as i want to get rolling with some other characters from other things (just to give variety to my channel and make sure not every episode is Street Fighter/Sonic characters) but i definitely plan to visit Gamma, most certainly :)

MegaSparkster That's what interests me the most about Gamma. He had one main game appearance and that was it. His story begins and ends in one entire game. And because of that he actually has the most complete structured story out of a lot of the other characters. .. . yeah, the more i think about it, the more i want to talk about Gamma at some point. I'll move him up the list a little so i can get to him sooner rather than later, lol.

As for the other shows, yeah i need to figure things out. Some of them might remain active, some of them might not. Basically, Who Dat takes a lot of time and effort to make so my free hours are stretched a bit thin right now. I'll have to see. Perhaps if things smooth out in to a solid schedule then maybe i can see about bringing one or two of the old shows back.. but right now Who Dat is the show i intended to do when i started using this channel so it's taken top priority. big the cat is the only consistently written character in the sonic franchise. every appearance he's in, it's the same version of the character. while characters like Sonic and Eggman has changed for the worse/better, Big is the same OG he has always been since he debuted.
Poor Big, he's in the misunderstood character club with Elise, Charmy, and Marine. He's a good and loyal friend. And while he may be dim, he isn't stupid. And he's also a powerhouse. He's just one big cinnamon bun! He means well and does his best!
Big is an absolute unit. He can pick up giant boulders and cars. Chaos just knew that he would be destroyed if he took big head on. That is why he possessed Froggy.

Gained a huge following through inactivity... Sounds a LOT like Mighty and Ray. Except they weren't lucky enough to hit three game appearances even when combined together.
He's unironically not a bad character,his story and character are pretty chill and relaxed despite being quite sad if you pay attention to it,plus he is a loyal person that wants to save his friend (Froggy cares about him,he wasn't running for no reason)
So...silly as this might sound, the main thing that drew me into this video was the super adorable artwork of Big. Seriously, it's just too cute! I kinda wanna download it, if it were available for such, but that aside, this was honestly a fairly entertaining video. I've seen some Big hate, but, none of it was really...easy to visualize in another's perspective, I guess? I'm not sure how to word that; but, your opinions(for the most part)kinda helped with that, and as much as I do like Big, I agree with his flaws. And personally, that makes him a little relatable, since he isn't the same as everyone else. He stands out, but they don't mind one bit, and I've always admired that since I was little, as I've been the self-conscious sort all my life. I actually really love big the cat. I see him as the lovable gentle giant character, later on he became like a big brother character to cream the rabbit and Amy. And in the story, when eggman released chaos from the master emerald, he accidentally breaks off chaos' tail. When the tail possessed froggy, it was actually for no reason. The only reason it possesses froggy, it just went after the closest living thing to it so the victim could be manipulated and bring the tail back. And since there was a chaos emerald in the area (and since chaos needs it) the possessed froggy was manipulated into bringing both to chaos. Eggman figured this out, which is why eggman put so much importance in froggy. (Because choas not only needs the emeralds, but also needs to be complete with his tail returned.)
I like Big, I like the fact that he's just a lazy fisherman living out his days with his best friend and was dragged into action to save his buddy. And his theme is awesome
I find it funny that back2s0ul uploaded the 'Who Dat?' Intro today. Also funny that DiGi uploaded a new Who Dat on the same day. That aside, this was an interesting analysis. Looking at Big now, I do agree with what DiGi said. Although, I do find him more tolerable in Heroes as opposed to Adventure. And the Duke Nukem part killed me.
The funny part is that Team Sonic put Big in Sonic adventures 2 to troll players. I guess since fishing is important in Japan, the designer decided to 1 up sonic fans for hating a cat that likes to fish. Big didn't do anything wrong. He was just in a a game that involved going fast and beating up evil scientist. But seriously, that's like putting Mario in Sonic's universe without it being funny.

In SA1, I THINK BIG the cat had to fish, so you can take a break finding gems, escaping zero, beating sonic in a act, and getting to a chaos emerald or opening a capsule, but big tried to catch froggy, if he did not catch froggy, then chaos could have been perfect chaos quicker, and big can hold a car. We need Big, stop saying he sucks, like in SA2 He is a cameo in weird places, I even saw him in space out the window. And In Sonic Heros, He had to be there so he can help. Cream Can Even Carry Big, so can Cream hold a car? In Sa1, The Only Boss Battle he had is Chaos 6, he could not fight any boss, but can fish inside any chaos number! Finally, Maybe In Sonic Heros, maybe he could not find a team, so he picked team Rose, Maybe... and no, not blaze or marine, sonic heroes is older than sonic rush and sonic rush adventure, cause sonic heroes was made in 2003, sonic rush in 2005, and sonic rush adventure in 2007. you can like or reply, and this is what i think, So don't say you need another opinion, i just made this, so i can show you what big can do, and why he does not suck, and learn how to fish with his action! I know, i don't need likes, not those type of comments, or spam, and Big the cat SA1 Level 2, is hard, because it is hard to find froggy, Hope you have a good 2019 the rest of the year! I actually enjoy Big! While his gameplay in SA1 is meh, I do enjoy his character. A big guy with a big heart, even if he's a little slow. I would find it cool if he appear more, but oh well. Oh, and I guess that's the relationship between Big and Amy/Cream is more like a big bro/lil sis relationship.

I wish the games would actually adapt the comics to be honest. I don't think that'll ever happen though since the comics use a lot of the made for TV characters that are non canon to the games.

Great video. Though, I have to comment on one thing. The only thing you'd change about him is his eyes? I'm sorry, but have you seen his feet? I like Big's design all around except for his feet, or whatever they are. They are just purple slabs, and they look incredibly off to me. I would honestly just cover his feet up. Adding detail to his feet would just look odd too, but I seriously can't get over these slabs he currently has.
Hmm, pretty fair analysis. What's also an underplayed characteristic of Big is his massive strength. He can lift up whole cars and can swing a massive spiked ball around, plus he's a Power-class character in Sonic Heroes. This is further accentuated by his stocky build and beefy arms.
The hate towards Big is really undeserved. Yeah, his voice is annoying, but I don't hold it against the character because that is something that could easily be changed. The voice actor was given very bad direction; if Big came back and he spoke more normally (They can still give him a sort of "slow" voice, but don't make it sound so overbearingly "cliche dumb"...) then there'd be nothing to complain about really. He's just a chill dude who likes to take it easy and enjoy the simple things in life, nothin' wrong with that! Plus his design is nice, and hey, I love cats! I think Big's design may have been sorta inspired by the Maine Coon. At the end of the day, whether you like or dislike Big, I think everyone can agree on at least one thing: He's miles better than a certain OTHER video game feline. Whos name begins with a B. And it ain't Blinx...
I could never bring myself to hate Big the Cat. In fact, I've always liked the guy as a kid, which was kinda hard because I was sometimes made fun of because I liked the guy. Even though there are some aspects that should've been more thought of in the drawing board like making him sound like he has Dow Syndrome, you'd have to give credit where it's due; he has a pretty likable personality and god damn heart of gold!

It's my personal head canon that Big is actually Blaze's older brother, but got kicked out of Blaze's dimension because he was far too powerful, and now exiled, he lives his days more humbly, fishing with his only friend from his original home, Froggy.
2022 turned out to be a sleeper great year for Big thanks to Sonic Prime and Frontiers. And yet it's somehow canon that he has no backstory and just is here for no reason and everyone just goes with it because he's chill.

Big with the Duke Nukem voice killed me for at least 10 minutes. I was laughing that hard, for real. If he had that voice, he would be, hands-down, the best character in the Sonic universe, lolololololololol!!! "It's time to catch fu*king frogs and eat some fish, and I'm out of fu*king fish." I swear though, if Big was a grappler character and was like a world champion wrestler instead of a big oaf catching frogs and fishing, he would probably be a better respected character. I can see that bling belt being a championship belt, for sure.
I find Big ok. Sure his voice can be a bit annoying but I always thought of him as the jolly gentle giant who would comfort you. But Elise on the other hand can burn in hell for all i care.
I always assumed that that puddle was just the tail portion of Chaos and not the whole entity. Would explain why it didn't just grab the emerald itself: it's just a tail. If it's capable of independant thought, then it possessed Froggy so that it could have a way of actually grabbing the emerald and carrying it around. If it's not capable of independent thought, then it possessed Froggy and stole the emerald out of reflex/instinct. Though then the plot hole question becomes " _Why_ did Chaos' tail separate from the main body and apparently crash land next to Big's house?"
Kefkaesque13 Perhaps, though it would have made a little more sense to have shown it only as the tail and not just a puddle. The first time we see the puddle was at the start of Sonic's story when you fight Chaos 0 ..and because of that i just instantly presume the puddle is Chaos in general and not just a part of him. Interesting theory though, basing parts of Chaos acting upon instinct. Personally, knowing Sonic Team though, we'll just put this down to bad story writing and them trying to shoe-horn in a brand new character that didn't really fit in to the story, lol XD
DiGi Valentine I know this video is old but as a kid I had always thought the tail may have been separated from chaos after eggman freed it from the master emerald by breaking it and not using some form of magic similar to how he was sealed by Tikal did and it left on its own due to pure instinct to find emeralds and not join back intill it found one

I like Big, probably in my top 5 Sonic characters. First off, he's a running gag with the fans, and SEGA. Just type up Bigfeed trust me. I also like his design, cuz i love cats. And I kinda like his personality, as you said, he has a heart of gold and i like that. I can't really think of any other character like that, maybe someone like cream. And is it weird i dont mind his voice? Maybe because his status as running gag just makes it in my opinion more funny. Look at the grumps play of his story when Arin is like "DESE ARNT SWIPES! THEY AR E A DISEASE" I found that hilarious. So I like him in an ironic way and a bit of a genuine way as well. Man im weird.

Big is basically just Sonic's version of Waluigi. An underused character that barley ever appears and when they do it's usually in a spinoff game.

I think the reason Big is appreciated as much as he is is because he was the pretty much the sole example of a more simple and more "Sonic" type of character in the "adventure era" of the series. The others (Omega, Rouge, Shadow) all pushed Sonic into that dark and edgy phase that a lot of us want to forget. Big is a dopey, simple guy with a simple story that's reminiscent of the simple stories that frame the genesis classics and thus sticks out more as a positive character to some who dislike the "OW. THE EDGE." that the Dreamcast era began.
+Tom Redfield I think a major reason why many people (including myself) don't like the "edgy" style of Sonic storytelling is because it just doesn't fit well. I mean the original game featured a fast running blue hedgehog chasing after and foiling the schemes of an obese mad scientist.
Now take those very characters and stick them in a dramatic super-serious world, and this is the reaction you'll get from your followers: ** We can't take them seriously, because they were never meant to be taken seriously!

MegaSparkster Oh E-102 Gamma? Yes, i do. I definitely plan on doing as many Sonic characters as i can, Gamma is one i find very interesting and will definitely be talking about at some point. It might not be for a little while yet as i want to get rolling with some other characters from other things (just to give variety to my channel and make sure not every episode is Street Fighter/Sonic characters) but i definitely plan to visit Gamma, most certainly :)

MegaSparkster That's what interests me the most about Gamma. He had one main game appearance and that was it. His story begins and ends in one entire game. And because of that he actually has the most complete structured story out of a lot of the other characters. .. . yeah, the more i think about it, the more i want to talk about Gamma at some point. I'll move him up the list a little so i can get to him sooner rather than later, lol.

As for the other shows, yeah i need to figure things out. Some of them might remain active, some of them might not. Basically, Who Dat takes a lot of time and effort to make so my free hours are stretched a bit thin right now. I'll have to see. Perhaps if things smooth out in to a solid schedule then maybe i can see about bringing one or two of the old shows back.. but right now Who Dat is the show i intended to do when i started using this channel so it's taken top priority. I'll have to see how things go over the next few months as i build the channel up further.

I didn't think that these could get any more entertaining, but apparently I was really fucking wrong because holy shit was this amusing af. Your incredulity at his having a fan base, the exclamations over his shallow backstory, and near dismissal of his personality had me clicking that like button faster than anticipated. Seriously, nearly lost it at "he's a dumb shiiiiiit" because your accent and disgust just made it fucking perfect. big the cat is the only consistently written character in the sonic franchise. every appearance he's in, it's the same version of the character. while characters like Sonic and Eggman has changed for the worse/better, Big is the same OG he has always been since he debuted.

So...silly as this might sound, the main thing that drew me into this video was the super adorable artwork of Big. Seriously, it's just too cute! I kinda wanna download it, if it were available for such, but that aside, this was honestly a fairly entertaining video. I've seen some Big hate, but, none of it was really...easy to visualize in another's perspective, I guess? I'm not sure how to word that; but, your opinions(for the most part)kinda helped with that, and as much as I do like Big, I agree with his flaws. And personally, that makes him a little relatable, since he isn't the same as everyone else. He stands out, but they don't mind one bit, and I've always admired that since I was little, as I've been the self-conscious sort all my life. I actually really love big the cat. I see him as the lovable gentle giant character, later on he became like a big brother character to cream the rabbit and Amy.
And in the story, when eggman released chaos from the master emerald, he accidentally breaks off chaos' tail. When the tail possessed froggy, it was actually for no reason. The only reason it possesses froggy, it just went after the closest living thing to it so the victim could be manipulated and bring the tail back. And since there was a chaos emerald in the area (and since chaos needs it) the possessed froggy was manipulated into bringing both to chaos. Eggman figured this out, which is why eggman put so much importance in froggy. (Because choas not only needs the emeralds, but also needs to be complete with his tail returned.)
I like Big, I like the fact that he's just a lazy fisherman living out his days with his best friend and was dragged into action to save his buddy. And his theme is awesome
I find it funny that back2s0ul uploaded the 'Who Dat?' Intro today. Also funny that DiGi uploaded a new Who Dat on the same day.
That aside, this was an interesting analysis. Looking at Big now, I do agree with what DiGi said. Although, I do find him more tolerable in Heroes as opposed to Adventure.
And the Duke Nukem part killed me.
The funny part is that Team Sonic put Big in Sonic adventures 2 to troll players. I guess since fishing is important in Japan, the designer decided to 1 up sonic fans for hating a cat that likes to fish. Big didn't do anything wrong. He was just in a a game that involved going fast and beating up evil scientist. But seriously, that's like putting Mario in Sonic's universe without it being funny.

In SA1, I THINK BIG the cat had to fish, so you can take a break finding gems, escaping zero, beating sonic in a act, and getting to a chaos emerald or opening a capsule, but big tried to catch froggy, if he did not catch froggy, then chaos could have been perfect chaos quicker, and big can hold a car.
We need Big, stop saying he sucks, like in SA2 He is a cameo in weird places, I even saw him in space out the window.
And In Sonic Heros, He had to be there so he can help. Cream Can Even Carry Big, so can Cream hold a car?
In Sa1, The Only Boss Battle he had is Chaos 6, he could not fight any boss, but can fish inside any chaos number!
Finally, Maybe In Sonic Heros, maybe he could not find a team, so he picked team Rose, Maybe... and no, not blaze or marine, sonic heroes is older than sonic rush and sonic rush adventure, cause sonic heroes was made in 2003, sonic rush in 2005, and sonic rush adventure in 2007. you can like or reply, and this is what i think, So don't say you need another opinion, i just made this, so i can show you what big can do, and why he does not suck, and learn how to fish with his action! I know, i don't need likes, not those type of comments, or spam, and Big the cat SA1 Level 2, is hard, because it is hard to find froggy, Hope you have a good 2019 the rest of the year! I actually enjoy Big! While his gameplay in SA1 is meh, I do enjoy his character. A big guy with a big heart, even if he's a little slow. I would find it cool if he appear more, but oh well. Oh, and I guess that's the relationship between Big and Amy/Cream is more like a big bro/lil sis relationship.
Big's great in the Archie comics, that's about it though. His game appearances have always been meh to me.

I wish the games would actually adapt the comics to be honest. I don't think that'll ever happen though since the comics use a lot of the made for TV characters that are non canon to the games.

Great video. Though, I have to comment on one thing.
The only thing you'd change about him is his eyes? I'm sorry, but have you seen his feet? I like Big's design all around except for his feet, or whatever they are. They are just purple slabs, and they look incredibly off to me. I would honestly just cover his feet up. Adding detail to his feet would just look odd too, but I seriously can't get over these slabs he currently has.

Hmm, pretty fair analysis. What's also an underplayed characteristic of Big is his massive strength. He can lift up whole cars and can swing a massive spiked ball around, plus he's a Power-class character in Sonic Heroes. This is further accentuated by his stocky build and beefy arms.
The hate towards Big is really undeserved. Yeah, his voice is annoying, but I don't hold it against the character because that is something that could easily be changed. The voice actor was given very bad direction; if Big came back and he spoke more normally (They can still give him a sort of "slow" voice, but don't make it sound so overbearingly "cliche dumb"...) then there'd be nothing to complain about really. He's just a chill dude who likes to take it easy and enjoy the simple things in life, nothin' wrong with that! Plus his design is nice, and hey, I love cats! I think Big's design may have been sorta inspired by the Maine Coon.
At the end of the day, whether you like or dislike Big, I think everyone can agree on at least one thing: He's miles better than a certain OTHER video game feline. Whos name begins with a B. And it ain't Blinx...

I like Big he's very relaxed and frankly he's kinda cute he's game play is very meh but it's short overall he's a nice character
I could never bring myself to hate Big the Cat. In fact, I've always liked the guy as a kid, which was kinda hard because I was sometimes made fun of because I liked the guy. Even though there are some aspects that should've been more thought of in the drawing board like making him sound like he has Dow Syndrome, you'd have to give credit where it's due; he has a pretty likable personality and god damn heart of gold!

It's my personal head canon that Big is actually Blaze's older brother, but got kicked out of Blaze's dimension because he was far too powerful, and now exiled, he lives his days more humbly, fishing with his only friend from his original home, Froggy.
2022 turned out to be a sleeper great year for Big thanks to Sonic Prime and Frontiers. And yet it's somehow canon that he has no backstory and just is here for no reason and everyone just goes with it because he's chill.

I find Big ok. Sure his voice can be a bit annoying but I always thought of him as the jolly gentle giant who would comfort you. But Elise on the other hand can burn in hell for all i care.
I always assumed that that puddle was just the tail portion of Chaos and not the whole entity. Would explain why it didn't just grab the emerald itself: it's just a tail. If it's capable of independant thought, then it possessed Froggy so that it could have a way of actually grabbing the emerald and carrying it around. If it's not capable of independent thought, then it possessed Froggy and stole the emerald out of reflex/instinct.
Though then the plot hole question becomes " _Why_ did Chaos' tail separate from the main body and apparently crash land next to Big's house?"
Kefkaesque13 Perhaps, though it would have made a little more sense to have shown it only as the tail and not just a puddle. The first time we see the puddle was at the start of Sonic's story when you fight Chaos 0 ..and because of that i just instantly presume the puddle is Chaos in general and not just a part of him. Interesting theory though, basing parts of Chaos acting upon instinct.
Personally, knowing Sonic Team though, we'll just put this down to bad story writing and them trying to shoe-horn in a brand new character that didn't really fit in to the story, lol XD

I like Big, probably in my top 5 Sonic characters. First off, he's a running gag with the fans, and SEGA. Just type up Bigfeed trust me. I also like his design, cuz i love cats. And I kinda like his personality, as you said, he has a heart of gold and i like that. I can't really think of any other character like that, maybe someone like cream. And is it weird i dont mind his voice? Maybe because his status as running gag just makes it in my opinion more funny. Look at the grumps play of his story when Arin is like "DESE ARNT SWIPES! THEY AR E A DISEASE" I found that hilarious. So I like him in an ironic way and a bit of a genuine way as well. Man im weird.
