I'm 60 now and just bought my first moped. I have to say that around town and up on the New Forest ( yeah, soft Southerner ) its an absolute joy! I love it! So anybody else out there having a mid life crisis I would highly recommend it. Not just for the young ones , although I will upgrade to a 125 next year! Great vid .
I’m mid 50s and like you having a bit of a mid life crisis and I’m seriously thinking of getting a moped and I’m torn between the aprilia sxr 50 or the Sym jet 4? So if anyone can give their honest opinion and advice it would be most appreciated. What did you buy?
@PiperX1X if you are thinking of getting a moped deffo go for a 125 rather than a 50 as tbh the 50 is just a way of getting a young one out on two wheels!
In my country you can get full 125cc a1 license at 16yo and its awesome, you can also drive those 125cc 2 stroke 34hp as long as its in papers 15hp or a1 papers,
Ey up its dans dad here, once your lad has done his cbt just get him sorted and get out there with him!! You’ll both love it… pick quieter roads to go get him some confidence and he’ll be away… has he got his provisional licence yet????
@@NorthernMotovlog Hi …. He’s not done his CBT yet….he’s not 16 until January but I’m already looking for a decent first bike for him. I used to have a bike years ago (Suzuki DR125) and loved it, never went on to get the full license unfortunately though.
@Yorkshireghostguy so the cbt at 16 will get him on a heavily restricted 50cc machine but a year of playing on one of them and the jump up at 17 to a 125cc will be ace for him if he enjoys 2wheels… 125’s are bloody good fun… just be prepared for hefty insurance bills for young uns…
Find a couple you like the look of and shop round for his insurance, a ground anchor and chain in the garage are a must too! Remember when we were young? Third party fire and theft insurance is the way forward again… good luck mate… get out there with him on a 125 of your own 👍
Controversial opinion - but I think you should have to do the theory test before learning to drive a car or doing a CBT - especially given how many people are "test ready" but repeatedly fail on hazard perception or what the road markings mean - all stuff that can save a life 🤷 like I said, controversial opinion.
In Manitoba (at least when I did it) you had to write the theory test to get a provisional license, and I admit this does make a certain level of sense to me.
Because of the rise of deliveroo riders they are doing just that. Going to do a theory test, pre cbt or may even cut down on how long the cbt's valid for but something is coming.
@@davejohnson3474I am not sure I agree with changing the length of CBTs, but frankly I think people should know the rules of the road before driving at all, so I'd support that for bikes and cars.
My lads on a 125 now with a years no claims bonus and a years riding and his insurance is still expensive… the moped gave us some great lad and dad time
Ey up hope you’re well… well in answer to your question, I reckon once it’s had it’s first service providing you’ve bought a half decent one you should be fine… just don’t expect to be getting everywhere quick… good luck and let us know how you get on 👍
I’ve been riding pushbikes on the roads for 60 years with very few “moments”. Can’t see the problem with a little moped if you are confident with position on road, Highway Code, etc.
@@NorthernMotovlog well Im going to tune it to go 37mph because if it goes faster than that in my country you lose your driving license and your vehicle license plate. And also you get fines about 100 or more $

Fantastic stuff mate!! Dan is moving onto a 125 this summer although he’s loved learning about the roads on his 50 👍🏼..
For your next ride i recommend the Honda PCX 125. great scooter i love mine

Go to your video editing software and find option "duplicate audio to both channels". All software can do this.
I need a 50cc for quick runs, they are cool AF
50cc is too slow u can’t even go places only to town or something that’s not going on a big main road and they can only get up to 30mph
@Fizzy575 great for 16 year olds to learn a bit of road sense before jumping on a 125 at 17..
I ride a 1000cc bike, but to be honest I'd quite like a little bike for short in city runs.

He’s only 4 months off 17 when he can step up to a 125 👍🏼
About to turn 16 do you think a piago zip 50 cc would be a good option?

Been learning highway code for ages, that’s my next job the theory. You’re probably right but it’s only round corner my theory test and my A1 license

How much average is the insurance for a 50cc and a 16 year old
I’m not sure about an average but in a ok area kept in a locked garage we paid £800 3rd party fire and theft
Where are you in the world
We are in the North of England on the edge of Lancashire and Yorkshire
Could you get a licence without passport ive only got a birth certificate
I’d assume so dude but don’t quote me, I wouldn’t think everyone has a passport!

With the speed of today's motorists, a 50cc scooter is no more than a death sentence.
