I lost over 30 lbs in couple of months while eating as much as I wanted - as long as it was meat & eggs mostly.
Yes the meat/carnivore diet works and I feel much better health wise, just had a full blood work done by my family doctor and I had the best results possible.
I love your channel since I also have a Kamado Joe and while now in US, I used to live in Burlington & area for over 20 years.
Keep up the great videos and I wish you a Happy New Year!

What happen to the pizza oven? In two months, I will return to my house that burn two years ago yesterday. I did lose 18 pounds by doing a carnivore diet that my doctor approved by grilling and smoking meat on my Green Egg 4 months before the fire. Living in a hotel for two years has brought back a lot of weight because I can't grill in a hotel and eat out a lot. But I will return to my carnivore diet shortly with a lot of new recipes that you have shown me during the last two years, thanks so much for those. This video is likely the most important video you done to encourage me to keep on grilling and smoking . Between you and Al, you guys have kept my attitude very positive and wanting to get back to grilling. I walk more than 3 miles a day because I have two Siberian Huskies living with me in the hotel and they need 4 to 5 long walks a day to keep them happy. Great way to get exercise in except on -22 degree days, snowy or rainy days and then the 105 degree days. Happy New Year to you and your Family!

Came for the bbq tips but also get weight management tips also - winner winner!
Found that when I do 18:6 intermittent fasting, weight loss is almost natural. I try to walk at least 5 miles a day (about 10k steps). And I generally eat only in daylight hours.
Look forward to more great cooks in 2024.

Excellent video! I lost a lot of weight about 25 years ago, and other than the usual +- 5lbs, have kept it off by enjoying what I'm eating the vast majority of the time. Once I got over the hump of starting a diet and settling into a manageable routine, I found the dieting part to be much less daunting than implementing a healthy maintenance lifestyle post-diet. That's the part that is the most difficult to figure out and all of your ideas and lighter recipes can be the foundation of great maintenance lifestyle. Thanks for putting such an inspiring video. Healthy eating can be an exciting and tasty way to live if you put your mind to it.

Last night I did a tri-tip and was thinking of you. I did a reverse sear up to 100 degrees then wood-fired to 130. I did the set-up and execution almost without thinking except that I thought how much I've learned from you and how much joy I get from the entire process of cooking outside on my Big Joe and wood-fired oven. The tri-tip came out perfectly. This video reminds me that I need to dust off my vac sealer. I had a ton of tri-tip left and that's the perfect idea to get the most out of it.
You read my mind about weigh loss. I lost a lot of pounds on keto a few years back but it wasn't sustainable. I have been noodling over how to proceed (after the holidays of course) and you've provided yet another burst of inspiration. Thank you.
I see some changes behind you. The Joe Jr. has made a reappearance but the pizza accessories remain. Hmm... The DoJoe looks like a quasi-permanent fixture on the one in the middle. I really hope you feature that more. I want to pull the trigger but waiting for verification that it's a game changer for a wider array of meat than just brisket. Cheers!

Assuming one does not have a pre-existing condition that affects metabolism:
    1. Exercise daily, even if it is just a 5-10 minute brisk walk.
    2. Intermittent fast
    3. Make your own meals (bake your own bread!!) - part of this includes removing processed foods!
    4. Limit sugar to minor ingredients (rubs, breads, etc.)

Whenever you lose weight you are going to lose both fat mass and lean mass. Losing 85 % fat and 15% lean is totally normal and expected, and that’s actually a relatively favorable ratio. The best way to retain muscle mass during weight reduction is to do resistance training and avoiding a really high deficit

James, love your channel and web site. Because of you, I got great buys on my new Classic Joe III and Joe Jr. My son has a great Carnivore channel on TH-cam so I'm very familiar with Keto, Ketovore and Carnivore. If you haven't checked out (although I'm sure you have) Dr Jason Fung for Intermittent Fasting and Dr Ken Berry for Keto and Carnivore, it's valuable information. If you are eating the proper foods, you can disregard calories in calories out. Add some resistance training and get enough protein, you'll save if not add muscle. The key is to make sure that you are eating enough total for the day whether one or two meals per day. Thanks for another great video.👍

You are a better man than me!
I lost 25 lbs for my daughter's wedding by cutting out all carbs and working out on an elliptical....it wasn't all bad....I enjoyed it for a while...
But I do like my rice and a few other carbs...
7 years later... I'm about 3 lbs less than where I started. Trying to keep that last 3 lbs from dominating my life!
Would like to lose the 20+ I need but it's tough!
I can give up many carbs long term ( eg beer) but rice and bread are tough...
I do like my whiskey which is low carb... But yes ....drinking sugar as you say... But it seemed to work with the low card diet!
I've admired your skills at the kamado... Now there's another reason!
    You are awesome!

I agree that BBQ can be a huge part of the weight loss solution! However, I'm a huge advocate for the keto and carnivore ways of eating. I don't think it's as simple as "calories in, calories out"; we need to cut out the carbs if we want to be truly successful. Yes, you can eat mountains of fatty BBQ and lose weight and be healthy. 😃😃

    • @ianpaddick2003
      @ianpaddick2003 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

It’s more complicated than calories in and calories out. But quality complex carbs actually have health benefits. Carnivore is only healthy if you’re eating the organs. Living off of steaks isn’t going to get you the nutrients you need to be healthy.
Honestly to be healthy you don’t need to follow any “diet”. Eat real foods (not processed trash) and exercise. lol.

Totally off subject. I notice that it appears two of your Kamados are “closed “ / latched shut. My understanding is this is not good for the gasket, i. e. It keeps it compressed and looses some of its effectiveness over time.

I peaked at 257 in grad school, and I was plateaued at around 237 for years. In late 2019, I cut out soda and replaced it with green tea sweetened with stevia (though I just drink sweet tea at restaurants), and cut a bag of chips out of my packed lunches for work and replaced it with a little bag of Jack Links Tender Bites they sold in the break room on the 3 days of the week I had to go to the office. At supper at home, I tried to cut back a bit on my portions. Those changes alone brought me down close to 200 pounds, and I was plateaued there for a while.
When they sent me home full time for COVID, I started doing intermittent fasting and started doing home workouts consistently every morning with body weight and a couple of 20 pound dumbells. This works beautifully, because your body has been resting all night, and it doesn't need energy: it's just used to being fed in the morning. You are however dehydrated in the morning, so if you drink a lot of water and make it through the first week or two, you won't get hungry in the morning anymore. That quickly brought me down the rest of the way to 200, and the journey has continued since.
This year, I dropped from around 200 to around 185 while clothed, and that's while still doing my one vice where every Friday and Saturday night I pop a bowl of popcorn, eat that and probably about 1000 calories of peanut butter with a spoon, while watching a movie.
Still need to drop another 20 or 30 pounds, but the main thing is that I have made no drastic change at all other than not actively seeking out sweets. I don't eat green vegetables, if you put something like garlic bread or rolls in front of me I will be a pig on it, etc.
