    The Yakov Yurovsky document is a very detailed account of that awful, awful night. In his account, he said they tried to burn the two smallest bodies. They were not successful at it. So they buried them apart from the others. The two smallest bodies were Alexi and Anastasia. Based on that, I always believed that when the final two bodies were found, apart from the others, it had to be them. I also found your facial reconstruction about whether the female skeleton was Anastasia or Marie to show it was indeed Anastasia, whose face was thinner than Marie's face.
    The whole thing is so, so sad. They were born into the wrong family; at the wrong time; and the wrong place. They had no way to escape. Alexi was born decades before hemophilia could be treated. But he could have lived longer had he also not been born into the same circumstances. The story never gets any better. And not one thing can change it. The whole thing is a tragedy that never should have happened. But it did.

It's always a little disconcerting to know that there's people out there that think this way. In all likelihood one of the reasons this family was so photographed was b/c Czar Nicholas himself was an avid amateur photographer. While most of the photos in this video were obviously taken by others, Nicholas himself took many, many of the family photos himself. He would've been much happier and more successful as a private citizen/country gentleman and devoted family man than a king but felt duty-bound to rule once his father died, even though his father had never bothered to prepare him at all for kingship (the main reason Nicholas was such a lousy king).

    • @tabby5228
      @tabby5228 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      True. Nicholas and his whole family were all into photography and scrapbooking. They had the court and publicity photos, but their private photographs is where they really shine. And Nicholas really was a bad czar, as much as he was a loving and devoted husband, father and son. He and his wife were even okay with not forcing their children into arranged marriages, with Olga turning down Carol of Romania as an example.

      What makes the Romanov kids tragedy to stand out is, that they were born to a very privilleged family, so there are photos of them and a lot of known detail, but they were just few among millions of young people who died for the crime of being born to parents of certain religion, ethnicity or political believes.

      @@veryberry39 Exactly. So important to separate the two, just like it's important to separate civilians from government/military in a country. Like, don't blame or punish civilians for something their government do.
      Also, having sympathy for people on one side, doesn't mean you don't have sympathy for suffering on the other side.
      The thing is, for people in the middle of it, their feelings are so strong it's hard for them to see these nuances. Being traumatized, hurt and angry, they can perceive people to be against them and their cause even when they're really not. Which makes everything worse 😞

    It's nice to see so many Romanov family buffs on this comments page! This video was wonderful thank you for making it.
    It was a bit strange seeing the children in colour and alive, especially when you're used to seeing them in black and white.
    I have been a Romanov family buff since I was 16 years old and still at school (I saw an article in Reader's Digest about them, their murder and how they eventually found the bodies and I read it and was hooked!) and I turn 45 on the 16th February. I have read too many books and articles to count and still on the lookout for more information about this family.
    I have been to Russia 🇷🇺 3 times- to St Petersburg (3 times), Moscow (twice), Tobolsk and Yekaterinburg (twice) - hopefully one day I will be able to go to Russia again to see more of it.
    I think it's widely agreed that Nicholas was a wonderful husband and father but a lousy ruler (people who knew him properly said he was a wonderful human being), Alexandra was a complicated character. Then there's the children and we all love them, they were completely innocent.
    I never believed any of the imposter stories, Anna Anderson looked nothing like Anastasia or any other member of the Imperial family for that matter. I think the most convincing imposter was Vasily Filatov who said he was Alexei- he resembled Alexei, had Haemophilia and his children looked like other members of the Romanov family.
    I think Nicholas would have been better running a big country estate with much, much less responsibility on his shoulders and he would have been so much happier and more comfortable in that role.
    I wish somebody could have got to the family in time and saved them, whisking them safely out of Russia before anyone realised what was going on. One of the great "what ifs" isn't it?

    This presentation is another of your more intriguing. While your unquestioned skill and ability have brought out many of the subtle nuances for each of the children, I agree with you that #6 is Anastasia. Your recreations illustrate how similar the sisters were, inviting confusion.
    For those that have questioned that you have done this presentation before, they are almost right. That similar presentation, “Romanov Daughters: What Did They Look Like? | Forensic Reconstructions & History Documentary” was from last year.

    It's never mentioned much in Romanov vids but the sisters all had a tiny gap between their front teeth and felt embarrassed by this hence no pictures ( at least any I have seen) show them smiling. I suspect also that another cause was that early cameras needed long exposure times and the subject needed to sit still for longer times.

    They did not have to kill the kids. I know the kids were teens and young adults but they were not involved in government. This incenses me when people harm kids (even teenagers) as I'm a Mom of 7 (5 adults & 2 teenagers).

    • @Eltanin25
      @Eltanin25 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The reason for killing them was fear of them being used as a banner to raly the opposition of the Bolsheviks. Any Romanov child could be used as a "rightful heir to Russia." Also, the youngest one - Alexei - was 14. For us today it's a kid, but many children of that age were already working hard, some of them even didn't reach maturity because they died in work accidents.
      I'm not trying to justify it, just explaining why many people in Russia in those day probably didn't care that much if these kids died, because they were surrounded by many other deaths of innocents and even much younger.

    Beautifully done! As to the "Anastasia of Maria" question I haven't a clue, both reconstructions are excellent!
    Just a bit of history, the young Lord Louis Mountbatten knew the Romanov family quite well and had as he put it later a real "crush" on Maria. It was well known the Bolseviks had killed the Romanovs even though the bodies had disappeared and Mountbatten carried a hate for the Soviets for the rest of his life, so much so I believe he wanted NO Soviet officials at his funeral in 1979. (He said so in his funeral plans. He wanted no Japanese officials there either but that's another story.) He couldn't and wouldn't forgive the murder of Maria.
    Mountbatten also had a framed photo of Maria net to his bed for the rest of his life as well, apparantly Lady Edwina Mountbatten didn't mind.
    The real mystery is who gave the order for the executions. Bolshevik Leon Trotsky didn't believe Lenin was responsible, Stalin never took responsibility and although everyone knew he had no qualms about killing he didn't seem the likely culprit. It's entirely possible the local Soviet acted on their own initiative. Many of them came to bad ends later, for various reasons.
    When the Czar abdicated King George V considered offering the Romanovs asylum in Britain but political advisors talked him out of it. Their murders haunted the king for the rest of his life.
    Just a tragic tale from a tragic time.

    • @angienoexiste
      @angienoexiste 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Well, as of what’s written in history, the order didn’t come directly from Lenin but had his approval. It was a quick decision that the bolsheviks made due to the rapid advances of the white army, which ended up taking over Ekaterinburg.

      I agree, that was extremely cold. Nobody knows ALL of the details either as they had ALOT to deal with at that time. It was King George V though. King George IV lived from 1762-1830. King George V could have easily let them stay with Prince John, King George Vs son who wasn't in the public eye to prevent seizures. Empress Alexandra helped Prince John by writing to Queen Mary and talking her into finding kids Prince Johns age for him to be around. I believe that she probably understood the trauma of Epilepsy due to Alexis Hemophilia. She was extremely kind to them and they could have saved her. They could have saved them all. I had read where his cousin King George V of England had not helped to secure the family’s release. At first he made an offer but rescinded it. The British Government was nervous to have the Romanov’s on British soil. Also Queen Mary had her husband’s ear & persuaded him not to help as he would fall out of public favor. The fullness of someone's face (fuller cheeks) cannot be determined by facial reconstruction. Typically it's the distance of the facial features that make up the face and the rest (such as fat and muscle distribution) is left up to the interpretation of the person making the reconstruction.
      This is the reason why Olga was the easiest to identify out of the sliblings. Her skull was a lot ''rounder'' compared to her sisters, which is very noticeable in the pictures just after they had their heads shaved.
