Nice review! I went with the Dell 7760 with an i9 and the elusive 130W RTX 3080 GPU option through Dell Premier. It is annoying they removed the dedicated PgUp/Down keys but I do have an external keyboard and display I use at my home and work desk so it is not as bad a deal for me. The fan noise on this Precision is significantly reduced, I cannot imagine any other laptop gaming or work that is better than it for performance + noise level. The Dell also has the excellent bios option for me to hook up dual external displays connected via the iGPU so the nvidia card is never active unless needed for 3d apps. Wish Lenovo supported that feature too.
@@5after12 Yes, it is only available via ordering with a Dell Premier account, or calling into a sales rep (the chat rep's cannot access the option), or very rarely they can appear in Dell Outlet in a refurb configuration. The option costs $200 more than the A4000 but is obviously significantly cheaper than the A5000 while offering similar performance. Oh, and no GSync support if you are curious.
The SIM Card slot can handle 3 cellular providers...T-Mobile (bought out Sprint), Verizon, AT&T....But other providers have them too...All providers need to offer the service..
I do not recommend P17 Gen2. Laptop in the idle has thermal issue with disk slot 0. The remperature is 50 C degrees ( SAMSUNG 1TB - MZVL21T0CLR), the cpu and gpu are coller that disk on default slot (under keyboard). The fan noise is awfull especially if you work in the night in completely silence - I mean the second fan runs on the lowest speed and the noise is horrible - due to hight temperatrue on disk. I use the cooling pad also and SSD0 has even 57 - 58 degrees in load. My setup i9, 128 gb ram, 3000 GPU, 1 TB (defualt disk) + 2TB additional M2 disk (it has 32-36 degrees) The price of this laptop is too high if we compare the price/quality. I was thinking that the bigger laptop will not have thermal issues, my bad. I have P52 and didnt have any problems like that. In my W530, T430s I didnt observe the similar issues.
@@MrFeelBueno yes, after FAN (whole cooling pad - SUNON) replacement the problem has not been fixed. So still I do not recommend this laptop. The pitch noise is still occuring. It is too loud even in the idle. If you use tpfan and completely turn off the fans the idle temparature is 64-67 degrees on CPU (in NON best perfomance mode), only one issue has been fixed - I changed the slot of main disk (under keyboard) to back - the temp difference is more than 10 degrees. But still the noise is too loud, and using laptop is uncomfortable.
The good aspect of the noisy fan is the returned machines get sold off cheap on ebay so people like me can afford them at 1/3rd the 8k rrp!! ;) I opened mine to add more ram and ssd and the left fan which is a little whiny has fingerprints all over it, as if its been tinkered with. BTW after i updated windows, the firmware, all the device drivers on my P15G2 A5000 96tb 3tb ssd the fan isnt as obtrusive, it only ocmes on when im rendering a heavy scene. I think its a very good computer so far.
Thank for this great review. Question about the fans, did you said that they were annoyingly loud? Are they coming on often or just when rendering videos or using demanding programs? All fan noises are driving me insane so I appreciated anyone sharing their experience with the P17 Gen2. Thank you
The fan on this came on almost all the time. And it was a whine sound, not like a normal fan. So there is a strong possibility there was just something wrong with mine. I had the ThinkPad T15g Gen2 and it did not make that annoying sound. That being said, if you are particular about fan noises, I find the Dell variants to be a much more pleasing fan sound. For both the Dell XPS 9710 and the Dell Precision 7760.
@@5after12 Thanks a bunch for the quick reply. Unfortunatly, I think that it is a Lenovo fan issue. I bought a P17 gen1 last December and the fan noise is madening, I can't focus and can't even do half my work, like anything that includes sound. Since I asked for a quiet computer when I bought it and they sold me this loud thing, they are talking about a Gen 2 replacement. But now it looks like all the P17 no matter what Gen have the same issue, that sucks.
My P17G2 has high pitched noise fan from left side, the fan runs all the time even if the computer is in the idle, sounds like whistling - the second fan from right side has a little less noise on the running, but the left side is horrible, after 20 minutes I have a migrene because the fraquency of noise is unhealthy. Lenovo replace the cooling system but the problem with noise is still the same, probably the core problem is with design of this fan. The similar issues is with P15G2 but there is a possibility to change cooling system with alternative substitute to non SUNON producer. I strongly DO NOT recommend this laptop for anyone. The laptop for almost 5k is worst laptop that I even have and use (I used many thinkpads p, x, w, t - and did not have any problems like that). DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP.
Well, I didn't keep all of them. I bought them with the intention of keeping them. However, if I didn't love them I would return them. The only laptops I kept were the Dell XPS 9710 and the LG Gram 17. My day job is in Information Security. However, I make TH-cam money as well.
I am making a video comparing the 2. I actually discussed it towards the end of the P17 Gen 2 video. If price is not a concern, 7760 all day. The only categories the P17 beats it at is a slightly better keyboard and slightly better dock solution. However, for the price, you can get WAY more for your money with a P17.
Personally I don't like Mac. However, if you are using Mac and also have a Windows device, you should check out the Logitech MX Keys keyboard. It has buttons for both Mac and Windows
the T15g Gen2 was a better device for me. I prefer the size of the 17, but i dont know if it is the 3080 vs the A-series GPU, or what. I loved the T15g, but hated the P17
I said multiple times through the video that I was not the target market for a mobile Workstation. However, there is no other option for a 17 inch ThinkPad. That being said, the Dell Precision 7760 is also a mobile workstation and it did not have the problems I had with the ThinkPad.
@@5after12 You make a point of it's weight and size. You make a point of the larger bezels. You don't mention or are unaware of WHY it has large bezels (US Department of Defense’s MIL-STD 810G) unlike others. Dell has horrendous build quality while the ThinkPad is as solid as they come. A workstation (you may want to look up what that term means) is not meant to be transported daily they are desktop replacements in a occasionally portable form factor. The entire backpack size segment is ridiculous. The thin and light Dell will overheat and throttle down under stressful workload. People that buy workstations do not care about speaker sound quality. Then you claim the Dell is better but you'd accept the ThinkPad if the send you another and discount it. Thumbs down all around.
Too Funny; Didn't Watch (TF;DW) I liked the P17, but the fans were very loud and had an annoying coil whine. Price-wise it is hard to beat, but if you dont' care about the price, i much preferred the Dell 7760.
My P15 Gen 2 has the EXACT same setup. I am waiting for the P17 Gen 3 to come out. :)
won't happen. The P17 and P15 have been discontinued in favor of the P16.
