I was born and grew up in Luton. I remember my dad, having to visit marsh farm the day after the riots. He worked for the council for 25 years as a health inspector. We have all since moved away but I’m still proud to call it my hometown
I have to add another comment - This video is magnificent and it got better for me towards the end - I grew up in Leighton Buzzard and everything on this video meant so much to me. I'm going to watch it again - thanks
Living in Luton in the 70s and 80s were the decades to live .
caravan ODWC Exodus too. The football kits were better. As were the clothes. The music definitely was better. Or maybe we are dinosaurs?
Born in 1965. Lived in Gilliam Street. Just opposite the railway station and round the block from Hightown. ❤️❤️❤️
A trip down memory lane. I remember so many of the local shops & landmarks. The only places that haven't changed are Hexton & Woburn. The shot of St. Mary's Church in Woburn is incorrectly captioned as Woburn Abbey.
Usually it's the villages that remain the same. I drove through Hexton recently and it's exactly as it was in this video.
To my surprise there’s footage of the street I grew up on amazing brings back memories amazing wouldve loved to see more
Omg I just wanted to see old video of Luton and this one came up and I recognised the Asian aunty. I showed her to mum and mum said yes I remember when it happened as we were residing at oak road which got away from the attacks. Omg memories how Luton was then mixed with all races. Beautiful
Luton is mixed with even more races now. Particularly Kashmiri Muslim people.
This is brilliant - thanks whoever put this up- A trip down memory lane for me.
If only we had a time machine
How did we let the country turn into the mess we see today ?
Amazing footage of Luton town
Thank you . Very much
Coming from Watford this seems like hell to me! I went to Luton watching Watford. Mixed memories I have to say! 😀
I miss the 70's & 80's... in good old Luton Town... Especially the night life... 🤔🤣😅😆👀
The 70's especially. The decline began in the 80's.
🚬💅🫦💨🍷✌️
I am so glad i left the place.
I remember it well. I was sitting in traffic at Stuart Street as a bunch of chanting Milwall fans went by.
Fans? I would have gassed them all.
Great to see but at the end of the video that church is not Woburn abbey
This is what Luton is about. Ultimate cultural ism. And I love it.
Why do you love it?
@@peternagy-im4be ‘cos I was a kid during these successful era for my team. I’m sure if I was a kid today I’d say the same in 40 years and people will say similar things. The football was better as far as the experience goes. Going to a game isn’t just about the football. It’s the life. And the atmosphere seems to me to have been better then than now.
A brief glimpse of Dunstable around the time I lived there. Great times! Be good if it wasn't so squashed and slowed down to normal speed if that's possible. But thanks all the same 👍
Thanks for sharing 👍
The sky may be blue in many of the scenes here but the culture in Luton is brown.
Nagy? That’s not a very Anglo-Saxon name.

Yeah and the fuckers who caused the riot was white
I wonder if there is any more footage from Douglas Road, I’d love to see that
OH LUTON WE LOVE YOU ....
Wow so lovely to see this
Albert Rd ..Russell Rise ..Newark Rd ...Arundel Rd...now on Kestrel Way Lewsey farm
Miss my times in Gilliam Street as a child. :(
I am a Luton refugee who managed to turn his life around (by leaving)
Luton made me appreciate that the Earth getting hit by a planet-killer asteroid might have some upsides.
The best thing that could happen to Luton is 500 million tonnes of wet cement poured over it and start again. I know it used to be a good place same can be said for many towns in the UK. The stench came from the East.....
@@peternagy-im4be I would crowdfund the cement solution.
What do you mean about "the East"?
@@TheWtfnonamez East Asia. Eastern Europe.
When the colours changed, so did Luton. For the worse!
@ 13-37...petrol station, petrol priced by the gallon...£1-67...about 36p per litre.
Tony Shaw and John Smith…the chairman of both clubs. One a toff the other from t’barnsley. They aren’t our people. Love Luton.
Luton used to be a great place. I repeat used to be.....
This was when the decline began. The 80's. Conservative misrule and the decline of certain industry. A rise in anti social behaviour. The 50's through to the 70's saw the best of times for all ages.

When Vaxhall pull out of Luton it was the death of the town.
