I’m 19 and I’ve just bought my second car. I must have decided that sex appeal was overrated, so for my first car, I thought it would be a good idea to buy a blue Peugeot 207 1.6 SPORT model, I was wrong. It was about as sporty as Stephen Hawking, 0-60 would take a bank holiday weekend. You can often see herds of these two tonne tampons outside any church on a Sunday morning anywhere in Britain, being driven by people who are mostly dead. Also, I personally paid for my mechanics last 5 holidays to the Bahamas on first class flights - to say this car is unreliable is an understatement. It’s about as sturdy and long lasting as a pensioners erection. I got it MOT’d 6 months into ownership, it failed. I spent a fortune fixing it, and a year later, it failed yet again obviously. Sold it for £250, bought it for £1300 and spent £1800 on repairs in the year and 6 months I had it. To be honest, that probably says more about me than the car but I think it illustrates just how woeful that car was. After the Peugeot I bought the car I’ve wanted to own for as long as I can remember, I have just got myself a beautiful 2007 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 V6 in what my friends call ‘Jewish Racing Gold’. Most people my age would want a slammed Golf R or something else terrible like that, but I’ve always wanted a big old, ish, Jag. I absolutely love this car, it’s a gentleman’s club on wheels. You’re cocooned in wood and leather, treated to the most superb ride of any car I’ve ever been in and has more than enough power to dispose of the plebs in their Ford Fiesta’s. I have no doubt it will completely financially cripple me, but I’ll have a massive smile on my face while it happens. Today the engine management light came on, for the second time in the month I’ve had it, but who honestly gives a toss. I fooking adore it! I know already this is a car that I will keep for as long as I possibly can. Anyway, excellent video as always furious driver, and what a car history you’ve had! The highlight for me was that gorgeous Alfa 156, such a shame it’s not around any more, that spec was superb!

That was very interesting Matt. I could have listened to more. I love your Rovers, and even though the only Rover I ever owned was a 100 series, others in my family have owned various models over the years. My Grandad had a 2000, back in the 60s, and my Daughter had a 400 diesel 40 years later. and they were all good reliable cars. My favourite in your fleet is the Volvo and I can't wait to hear your verdict of it when you get it sorted.

I'm not that fond of the W123 to be honest, it's a weird colour combo, bit tacky. W123 should be in seventies pine green or one of the funky solid colours they had at the start. Or a silver 280E. I like the Volvo more but maybe it's not special enough to be a keeper. Good luck!

2017 Skoda Fabia Estate (still have, now wife's car)
Nearly bought a Freelander, but pulled out deal
1999 Nissan Micra (I so wanted another one, paid £175 to try and relieve my memories of first car, needless to say it was rotton as a pear underneath so was scrapped)
2003 Fiat Stilo Abarth another car buying disaster was a fantastic car to drive until the autobox packed up and spent two months in a garage, when I did pick it up I had lost confidence in the car and just parked it up and then it developed a major oil leak so I scrapped it.
2009 Mini One Graphite (loved this car, sadly took too much up of my time) so sold it to my wife's friend.
2004 Volvo S60 (another cracking car only owned it for 4 months then found out how much it was going to cost to put it through a mot with things to be replaced, plus the fact my drive kept ending up like a rainbow every time it rained!!)
2008 Nissan Qashqai (still have, just hardly driven the damn thing as got a month before lockdown)
    Wife's cars have included
2002 Toyota Yaris (not a bad car)
1999 Ford Focus 1.4 (quite disappointing used as much fuel as my 2001 1.6 Focus I had at same time)
And if I can find another K11 Micra that's perfect or a Mark 5 Escort then I may add to my fleet....

Brrrr! Suddenly got cold at 22 mins. 10000Kelvin cold.Must be that Thames dealer.
One of my favourites was the 156 and I liked the early ones - for looks - and searched ages for an immaculate light blue one with black leather. It went very, VERY well and I agree, not only is it beautiful but it handles like a dream. The interior is amazing (to look at) at night the lovely dash lights too. Replaced with an RX8 which is also truly amazing. Volvo V50 now..
Preceded by but not in order, Triumph Vitesse 2 liter convertible x3, Mini 1000 x3, BMW 2000 lux, Standard Pennant, Fiat 124 sport coupe 1800, VW Golf, Vauxhall Astra (given to me), Mazda 323F (great car), Austin Metro...Struggling to remember now...

It amazes me how little damage it takes for an Insurance company to write off a car these days, perhaps they should put the repair estimate percentage back up to 75% -80% of insured value like it was years ago. Insurance companies tend to rely on Glass's too much, rather than what the car is worth to its owner both money and sentiment. Repair shops can do wonders these days with accurate jigs and modern methods, the car often coming back in better than factory condition.

Has to be the most through, honest and possibly longest TH-camr car history video on the net.
I have never owned an Alfa as the right ones only turn-up just after I have bought something else. Quite fancy a 166.
Shocked you never owned an MX5 or a Honda as oddly almost everyone I know has owned one or the other either by choice or by chance.
If you fancy another Range Rover P38 ownership with the right car is awesome with a fantastic club in the south coast and an excellent specialist/restorer they have just turned the corner classic wise.
Will be buying at least 1 Tomcat T shirt to celebrate my baptism into R8 ownership/repair.

I owned a 1998 Rover 214 Si five door in 2009. Sadly, I didn't find the driving position very comfortable, confirmed when I owned a 25 in 2018, and the PSA R65 gearbox was very sloppy indeed (probably the age didn't help), but I do agree they handled OK. I drove a Polo G40 MkII facelift last year, and you are right, the steering is really heavy in them and the brakes are awful, even if the facelift ones do have a servo. Fascinating little journey through car history, will have to update my one of these I did last year with some pictures.

A bit of coincidence - I noticed there's what looks like an Alfa 33, your previous Alfa, in the background of your photo of the damaged 146. I always loved the styling of the 146 even more than the 145, sad to see yours get damaged.
