Always respect your take Proft. Once you open a collector, I think you'll appreciate the Belgium foiling. The cards look soo good and has the type of detail you may like, regardless of the general excitement to the IP/set overall

Can normal foil cards even be called "premium" anymore? My store has something like 25K bulk foils that I use to fill a slot in the $1 repacks I make every month, and I'm still falling behind.
According to R&D, there just wasn't enough for them to transfer on over to meaningful card designs and reprints. In fact they had to stretch green to second and third pie layers.
Maybe because of something something using real people for cards in a business might get them into trouble. But I'm no wizard :( @@dontstealmydiamondsv3156
Assassin's Creed and Destiny always holds a special place in my heart. A lot of people bash both games due to the routes that both games went, but as a loner growing up I knew that both games were there is I needed to kill some things or do a puzzle. I remember the Princess Bride did not score high, but due to the memories you have with Princess Bride this set and the Lord of the Rings set will always have that spot for me as well. Thank you Proffesor always look forward to your videos.
Solid analysis. If only the stores reducing the stuff in the months to come wouldn't have to cover the difference to what they had to pay upfront to distribution!
I just want to say I never would've gotten into Magic if it weren't for this set. It may not be the best, but I have no frame of reference, and I think it's so cool !
Notably the Sutur, Fiery Jotuun and Ezio, Blade of Vengeance that are listed in the possible rares at 8:07 actually aren't even obtainable in either beyond or collector packs, those cards are unique to the starter kits.
as someone who’s a massive AC fan the value of the cards themselves doesn’t really matter to me since i’m looking to just build decks with some of my favourite characters. do appreciate the insight though, professor is always great to listen to
Seems like a better way of getting AC fans to buy the packs is if the cards were usable...it may even get them to stick with the game for future releases...but what do I know?
Im 30 years old now and started playing magic with 12. With around 20 i started to play legacy and really loved the game and the fact there was always a community. In Legacy you had to invest alot of monney but then u could play the same decks for a very long time, perfect for guys like me who love to foil everything out. I even started buying alpha duals. around 3 years ago i quitted and if i watch the products released since then (and also around this time) im really happy i stopped collecting at this time. it dissapoints me so hard how the company try to squeeze out monney from the customers with special cards/sets power creep and so on. still watch your videos because im a big fan. i really hope they find theyre way back to the god old times. sorry for my bad english btw :)
There is an LGS by me doing a sealed event with this set. According to them you get the starter kit and 2 packs to build a deck with. So no green I guess. Also can't wait for that Behind the Campus video!
There are so many special treatments and alternate arts that I don't even know when I should be excited when I pull one, which leads me to not be excited in general.
I absolutely love this set, I’ve got so many killer cards out of it, pulled a black market connections and a swords of feast and famine out of a single pack, I personally believe it’s a gamble but you do have a higher rate to pull something rare and higher
I never buy sealed products. Bought a bundle from this set. Enjoyed my time and I am happy with my purchase due to a lot of cards I can actually play in my existing commander decks and the 40 awesome full-art lands. I am rare case I assume.
I agree with what the Prof says on this product. The main draw is going to be the IP to help draw in newer players. They will as a whole not care about the value of the cards, they will just care for the characters from the series.
I am a student, so I cant afford to splurge on MTG. I barely managed to scrape together a decent funny deck, and I am happy with it. Since AC is one of my favorite game series, I ended up buying the starter deck, which fits in my budget. Primarily, I bought this because I honestly just really like the art on the cards. Hoping to get my hands on as many showcase cards as possible, so fingers crossed hehe
I cracked 2 of these packs. Pack 1 was Desynchronization with a foil Sword of Feast and Famine and 2nd pack was Yggdrasil with a foil Cover of Darkness.
I saw on a MTG TH-cam channel video that the host called the land slot a "mana fixing slot." Not sure if it was meant to be called that for all boosters, but I stand by what I commented there, which I'm repeating here: they need to get rid of the land slot all together because that land slot isn't "fixing" anything, other then Hasbro giving away too many cards players will actually be using. 10:08 Yes (for me). I'll be playing with them. I plan to build a 5 color commander deck with only (mostly) these cards. As you've said for Secret Lairs, I will be buying this for my personal collection, but the current price doesn't sit well with me. 13:14 👍 Enough said (or emoji'ed) Thank you for the review.
The land slot always pissed me off. Like congrats you got something that's worth less than a common but in some sets it could be worth some money so be thankful it's there.
I’m doing what I call the “$70 Challenge”, as I saw a bundle priced at 70 at a Walmart recently. I’m going to see how many singles that cash would get me over the bundle. (I might splurge on Kassandra, because I really enjoyed AC:Odyssey.)
I normally don't wish for the downfall or failure of sets, and I'd feel bad knowing there are AC fans who are excited for it, But I'm really hoping this set fails spectacularly to teach WOTC a lesson to either slow down on products, stop relying so hard on UB sets, or never even think about bringing Aftermath boosters back again If we're lucky maybe we'll get 2/3
As a huge AC fan, don’t feel bad, I am absolutely okay with this set failing. I’ve already got packs to open for now but if the prices plummet then I can get more for a more reasonable price
Well today I ordered the starter kit and bought 1 Pack . My first ever MTG purchases to get into the game. I got lucky and the I packed foiled Cleopatra and and 3 9thers legendary's, the pack was double the price value 🔥😂
I think we'll see a lot of Brotherhood Regalia in commander as a replacement for Whispersilk Cloak. 3 mana to give your commander Ward 2 is a much better rate than 5 mana for shroud. Plus its a lot easier to equip to your commander the turn it comes out
Grabbed a Sealed Box and a Starter Kit at the local LGS on the launch day (got 2x Hidden Blade Foil promos, which was a nice surprise, since I had no idea there was a promo going on) also on the same day I got the Bundle + 2 packs as a late birthday gift from my best friend since he knows I've been a die hard fan of AC franchise since 2007 even though I really haven't played anything after Unity... (even though I've bought the new games at some point) Prices during the pre-sale and the launch day: Single Pack: 6,50€ Sealed Box: 135€ Starter Kit: 18€ Bundle: 58€ Prices as of today (2024-07-12): Single Pack: 5,50€ Sealed Box: 125€ Starter Kit: 18€ Bundle: 58€ Might grab a box or two later on just for nostalgia sake since I've enjoyed opening Showcase Altaïr and Foil Showcase Edward in my packs.
I've played magic once. It was fun but I never got into it. I'm a huge fan of assassin's creed so I got the starter set so I could play with my family. I won't get booster packs because they seem overpriced and I have enough to play with just the starter set so I'm happy
This set is where I fully embrace the "buy singles" mantra. Handful of great reprints and some commander cards, but otherwise this set doesn't look fun to open. And I like AC but I would have rather they did commander decks than aftermath boosters.
I can’t wait to hear the stories of new customers going into stores, buying a box, and then going home to return to their video games never to return. 👍🏻 We’re growing the in-store player base everybody!
Yes and no. Yes if you want to simply crack packs and sit on the cards and wait for them to go up simply because they can’t be reprinted. No because the packs are small and can’t even be drafted. This is very conflicting. It really only seems worth is to buy packs/sealed product for sellers and not players. That’s just my opinion
I'm looking forward to the drop. Most of the cards that I'm after already seem pretty cheap after 1-2 days, so hopefully ill be able to pick them all up as singles when i head into my LGS for Bloomburrow prerelease.
I think it will be pretty important to buy these singles fast just in case something gets pricy quick. Lower interest and no limited makes me think not too many packs will get cracked overall.
Really hope to see a review of the starter kit as well. Did buy that as well as the LotR for a mate and I to try magic. He have never played but after watching your commander videos he really wanted to try it out. I havent played since way way wayy back. And really like assassins. So hope to hook other friends with these decks and transition into commander.
I just picked up the starter kit for my sister. I play arena, so.. I'll steal any codes first. Oh, wait! Not on arena this time.... right? And still more expensive.
Good. Let this set crash. As an Assassin's Creed fan, I'll be very happy to buy out my LGS here in about a month when these packs are marked down to match the value
While the packs being 7 cards suck, the set is pretty awesome, as an AC and magic fan this feels like one of the best crossovers they could have done(other than dnd and LOTR) . Assassins are already in the game, and this set gives us more leads for pirates and assassins in commander. Some of the reprints (the sword of's) and more make the set ,while not great for your wallet, decent. I for one love this set, thanks to it i got to build an Edward kenway pirates/assasins commander deck.
I think this didn't age well, even just a couple of days later. We see several cards spiking because they are just good cards and people see their value. Basim, is not underpowered for modern and the price spike is showing that--it's not just a commander card. There is tons for commander, and when the assassin theme wears off, I'm sure there will be a huge drop for many of these cards, but until that time, people are going to LOVE playing Edward Kenway. We will also see through time, there will be many cards that were overlooked just because it is an assassin and people pulled 3 of them in every box. Shay Cormac, for instance... it will be an on-sight kill to anyone who loves to stuff their decks with Greaves. But, it won't even matter. If it hits the board, your greaves are worthless for 1 at instant speed. Protecting your commander is big business, so anyone running Orhzov and spot removal will include it, not caring it is a Human Knight Assassin. And it will have limited prints. The price will climb later, once people realize this set wasn't Aftermath.
I think the set is a win in terms of giving us cheap reprints of some pretty good cards and with the flavor. Other than that, at least Wizards gave our wallets a small break between MH3 and Bloomburrow

Bro he’s white, he’s not allowed to use the hard T 😡.
Not only did I come here to voice concern about what feels like an intentional mispronunciation (which a professor of English should never do/), but also "Edward Kenny." I thought it was pronounced "Kenway." Thank the Gods I don't have to hear him butcher the word anime. (Edit...oh no.... What if there's a crossover of The Last Airbender? Is he gonna call the Ahh-vuh-tah Ahhng? )
(Also, this is probably unrelated, but it still grinds my gears there have been, what, 8 cards now with almost my name on it. It almost feels like WotC are doing that on purpose. I mean, Post Malone has two official cards with his name on them. Probably because he's egregiously rich and I'm not. I wrote the company about wanting my name on an official-printed MtG card and in a TL;DR I was basically told "Yeah.... no.")
@@joranmoore5663 Yeah, it's Ken-WAY not Ken-ny......and Edward Kenway was one of the best characters....from one of the best games! And goes right in with the Ixalon Pirates!
@@joranmoore5663Change your name to "Jace Beleren" and - boom - you got it!
Then contact them again and ask who's laughing now! 👊

Is it worth
It to buy…..
Magic the Gathering?
Ehh probably not. Just play something else.
My favorite part of shoving these into modern was Ezio having WUBRG shoehorned into its text box, a traditionally Modern thing we expect.
Can we just appreciate how smooth 0:33 - 0:46 is
I'm running a FNM for AC tonight and like even a free draft for this set feels like too much to pay. God this set is exhausting.
I hope I pull guy in hood
Please tell, how was it? What was the best and worst?
That shuffle up and play are going to be so good, just from teh short clips they have such great chemistry!!!!
It might be our best episode yet. One week from Monday!
I'm knew to the MTG world. I got in with the Fallout Commander decks.
I appreciate the content you upload as I'm so new I don't really know what to buy/get, what to run etc.
I feel like I'm actually in a school setting when I watch your videos and come out knowledgeable when the video is over.
So, thank you for the content you upload and the positive energy you provide.
Product Fatigue HAS. TO. STOP.
Just freaking space out product releases Wizards it’s not that hard.
Move Bloomburrow to September and have Duskmourn in December. 3 months in between Major Releases NEEDS TO HAPPEN.
I don't think they should change the timing of Standard sets to accommodate Universes Beyond sets but I get where you're coming from.
for real. i checked out of mtg for half a year because I was busy with studies and now I have no idea what the fuck's going on.
@@christopherladka2463 who cares, nobody plays Standard anyway, it's all about Commander and this product pushing is trash. I spent my money on MH3 and now I have to wait until Duskmourn to afford more.
"product fatigue has to stop" makes it sound like wizards is actively trying to make you feel product fatigue. Or, at the very least, makes it sound like you're using a buzzword without understanding what it actually means.
@@GlassEater420a lot of people play Standard. Standard is the most popular format on MTGA. That's the real reason it's not played widely in paper is because of how accessible that format is on Arena.
Love the channel. Iv been learning a lot since Iv started playing again at 40 years old. Last time I played was in middle school.
I'd love to be excited for this crossover. AC is just so cool to me, but MH3 JUST came out.. And this being close to aftermath boosters I can't bring myself to buying these packs so far. Maybe I'll do some trades for singles this set.
Oh man the sassy look at the end when you put the box in the desk LOL
Always respect your take Proft. Once you open a collector, I think you'll appreciate the Belgium foiling. The cards look soo good and has the type of detail you may like, regardless of the general excitement to the IP/set overall
I got the gift box and 2 collectors packs coming my way along with the starter set. I realize it may not be a high value set but assassins creed is one of my favorite games so I could not resist getting a few cool looking cards
If it's worth it to you then it's fine :)
Yeah if you’re happy then it’s worth it!
I love the assassin's creed set so much! I love the series so this is just awesome to bring it to magic. 10/10 awesome cards!
8:09 i’m gonna pretend that he didn’t just disrespect my boy Edward KENWAY like that
Yeah, at least Ezio doesn't have the 't' to guide pronunciation.
That catch at the beginning was smooth as hell!
I bought 3 boosters for fun and got really lucky with the borderless ezio
Nice!!
So... Borderlezio?
I love you Prof!!!!! Keep up the fantastic work you have been doing for the community. Your videos are always nothing short of perfection and entertaining to watch!
Not to mention the many exclusive cards on the Starter kit, which makes it's more valuable on purpose, even though they're not particularly good.
I mean given the core concepts and locales in the games, it's hardly surprising that green wasn't much represented.
Why even go for AC as the series of choice in the first place then? I know, money, but still very dumb
All the more baffling that they were willing to cross the line of making real historical figures into cards, but only made like 3 of them
@@dontstealmydiamondsv3156all this shit and I can’t even make a Karl Marx commander deck.
Wow, Prof is very generous with the grade he gave on this product. Tbh I genuinely thought the grade was gonna be F for 'forget about it'.. 😂😂
Yay! You know it's great when tolarian community college uploads😀
Prof., your language usage is so mature, thanks, I would have been swearing Wizards for their f-ing greediness.
as someone who’s a massive AC fan the value of the cards themselves doesn’t really matter to me since i’m looking to just build decks with some of my favourite characters. do appreciate the insight though, professor is always great to listen to
I was so excited for this set until I saw the prices of the singles....
As always, Prof, analysis right on the money!
Thank you for the credit for WhatNot. I bought a Vesuvan Doppleganger and Luxior, Giada’s Gift. 🔥🔥🔥
Charlie on Shuffle up and play, let's go!
Congrats prof and team on 1 million subscribers!!!
That throw at the end was smooth.
I never buy sealed products. Bought a bundle from this set. Enjoyed my time and I am happy with my purchase due to a lot of cards I can actually play in my existing commander decks and the 40 awesome full-art lands. I am rare case I assume.
I got 2 mythics in my first normal pack and Excalibur in my second hope the luck keeps up
I agree with what the Prof says on this product.
The main draw is going to be the IP to help draw in newer players. They will as a whole not care about the value of the cards, they will just care for the characters from the series.
I realy want to interview the one that thought half packs for double the price would sell well. It would be a fascinating discussion
You'd likely be interviewing a room full of investors who know/care nothing about the product.
Friends finally hooked me into MTG. Definitely only doing precon decks and/or singles!
13:14 👍 Enough said (or emoji'ed)
Thank you for the review.
The land slot always pissed me off. Like congrats you got something that's worth less than a common but in some sets it could be worth some money so be thankful it's there.
@@Sa3vis Include a land slot only if it's going to be a rare land. Not like a foil, but actual rare land.
I’m doing what I call the “$70 Challenge”, as I saw a bundle priced at 70 at a Walmart recently.
I’m going to see how many singles that cash would get me over the bundle. (I might splurge on Kassandra, because I really enjoyed AC:Odyssey.)
I normally don't wish for the downfall or failure of sets, and I'd feel bad knowing there are AC fans who are excited for it,
But I'm really hoping this set fails spectacularly to teach WOTC a lesson to either slow down on products, stop relying so hard on UB sets, or never even think about bringing Aftermath boosters back again
If we're lucky maybe we'll get 2/3
As a huge AC fan, don’t feel bad, I am absolutely okay with this set failing. I’ve already got packs to open for now but if the prices plummet then I can get more for a more reasonable price
I'm a simple man, I see a TCC video and I click
Prof booster and box spins were on point today
Only excited for this set because of the additions for my Etrata, Deadly Fugitive deck
It was an easy hard pass for me being a jarring universes beyond product, but i gave it watch because prof delivers.
Well today I ordered the starter kit and bought 1 Pack . My first ever MTG purchases to get into the game. I got lucky and the I packed foiled Cleopatra and and 3 9thers legendary's, the pack was double the price value 🔥😂
As someone building an Assassins Tribal deck, that is the only scenario in which I could justify opening these packs instead of buying singles.
(even though I've bought the new games at some point)
Prices during the pre-sale and the launch day:
Single Pack: 6,50€
Sealed Box: 135€
Starter Kit: 18€
Bundle: 58€
Prices as of today (2024-07-12):
Single Pack: 5,50€
Sealed Box: 125€
Starter Kit: 18€
Bundle: 58€
Might grab a box or two later on just for nostalgia sake since I've enjoyed opening Showcase Altaïr and Foil Showcase Edward in my packs.
I think this will be an interesting lesson for WotC as they knew the IP would have a ton of problems, but was “doable”.
I really hope that in a couple years they can make more (and better) cards to make a full set and at least 2 commander decks
I thought Prof was gonna drag the box to the floor! So shocked it landed in the drawer
Well that’s good information to know. Thanks.
I enjoy having cleopatra putting +1/+1 on imdominous rex alpha while it rides into battle with horseman ship from sun quan
I'm a sucker for anything AC related. So yes, I bought the Starter kit, one bundle and two beyond boosters 😂
My most anticipated video is finally here 😂
I can’t wait to hear the stories of new customers going into stores, buying a box, and then going home to return to their video games never to return.
I was shocked to see this in the store already.
Man i was excited for this set. Probably just buy Ezio full art & Desmond full art they look amazing for collection
Fallout was also a video game crossover, but it was much better i feel. Only thing i wanted was the new art for sword of feast and famine
Lower interest and no limited makes me think not too many packs will get cracked overall.
speaking of Yugioh, a yugioh universes beyond would be an amazing crossover.
0:43 smooth move there, lol.
I pulled a showcase art in my first and only beyond booster ‼️
