the only thing i dont get, is how to hear the metronome now, while playing a track? i mean, for warping you need that function. but than cue and master out, both have to be at 3/4. please advice.
Thx for video! I have problem with LED feedback on Windows 10 when I using my XONE K2 mapped in the Ableton and Traktor 50/50. I using LoopMIDI and MIDI-OX for make it possible, but I can get LED feedback only from Ableton or Traktor. Can you help me?
Hi +mrcuss is there anyway to get the rotary encoders to be more responsive. As I saw you doing in the video, you have to spin them multiple times to get a full turn of a control from 1-127. Maybe a Max4Live device or something?? Right now the rotarys are pretty useless where you have to wind them up to get enough movement. Setting them to Relative Bin Offset is the opposite problem with them being too sensitive. Any ideas?
I did the configuration like the video and everything went well, however when I click on the pads (white) I hear other musical notes like piano ,does anyone have an idea how to solve this? Thanks
Nice video there, to add bit more flex in your mapping i would suggest to use the Play button that is just above the "Audio From" label on each channel.
Hi Marcuss, thanks for the video. I have a question: is there a way to see leds (lights) like in Push , so when i scroll down , i have on top the selected raw only? Thanks
is it possible to use the upper section for abelton effects like reverb and stuff, and the lower section (the buttons u mapped cue and play) to traktor? or isnt this possible? and do you always need to have a connection to the laptop?
Hi Mrcuss, great explanation, one thing though. while mapping the eq and faders make sure in the midi mapping browser the db max settings is set to 0 db for all the parameters. This will result in a much cleaner and not distorted sound.
Hi Marcus, thank you for the video, it helped a lot to set up, but I am not able to use the cue button. I have followed the video as you showed. I’m trying to mix two tracks together, but when I’m pressing the cue, it is just turns off and on the headphone. In the program when I’m trying to set the first beat, I could not pause the track, and set the cue point for the first beat. Thank you for your answer, it is appreciated a lot! :)
Great tutorial! However I am having a problem, when I map the fader level it only fading up and down inside the headphones but not bringing the sound up on my speaker. How do I achieve this? Thanks 🙂
In the midi ports the input is not showing up and there for I cannot go any futher than this do you have any advice as the k2 and its drivers are installed correctly... Thanks, Matt
Hi, Could you help me choose between the K2 and the 2D, I feel that the 2D is more versatile since I could connect a xdj and use it in conjunction with the PC, I get it used and cheaper than the K2, but the K2 would be new and there are more variety of mappings available on the internet. Greetings from Argentina.
Dont see why not... Just map the controls in your chosen software to the controls of the controller. The only thing you would struggle to map is a cross fader if you use one...
THERES A HUGE ERROR HERE. YOU NEED TO MAP THE 'PLAY' FUNCTION TO THE BLACK ARROW AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TRACK, NOT TO THE TOP CLIP. OTHERWISE YOU'LL CONSTANTLY ONLY PLAY THAT CLIP AND CANT SCROLL.
+Gunho Jung Have a look (Google) at 'Latching layers' on the Xone K2. The Xone:K1 dosent have latching Layers. EQ three can be found under Audio Effects / EQ Three
AloneinFiction Ableton Live does allow controls to be mapped more than once but as your 'Repeat' effect is activated and the fader mover down the volume will come down as well. I cant imagine a scenario where you would want the same control to have opposing functions on 2 parameters... You could try looking at 'MAX4LIVE' which will give you much more control over Ableton and mapping to the parameters.
Could you please explain a little more behind the cueing function? Can you have 4 tracks running and be able to cue on each of them or does one track need to be dedicated only to the cue function??
+Anthony Moor It all depend on how you map your controller in Live but yes you can have 4 tracks playing and CUE each one in turn. Best practice is to map one channel and get it working the way you want prior to moving on to the next.
hi man! Realy good video! But I have a problem. Super Looper FX about which you said: It can be found online and it is free. I could not! None of this is as you have the video! Can you help me - and send it to me. Or to say, where you can download it. Thanx!!!
HI, Your tutorial was really helpful to me. I have a problemn though, once a configure the power on setup to scroll between clips, I don't know how to launch the different clips, 'cause you show how to launch the 1st one, so I can't figure out how to do it without using all my buttons. Would you help me please?
No, i'm talking about launching different clips in the same channel. I can scroll between them but to play each clip i have to configure different buttons. One for each clip
Mauro Chianea Oh OK. I think i got it. When you map your controller you need to map 'Track Launch' as your primary PLAY. As you scroll between 'Clip Slots' the Track Launch will play whichever clip you have selected.
Hey Mrcuss thanks for your helpful tutorial, you uploaded this a long time ago but it is still very interesting. I have also some troubles to do like you. When I map my xone k2 it send notes on the 15 channel and i'd like to send CC signal like you in the video. Do you know how to do that ? Thanks !
+Erwan GAILLARD The Xone K2 sends MIDI data from all channels. You can select which channel during setup of the K2. To understand how to refrence MIDI data to Note date. Please refer to page 19 of the Xone:K2 user guide. www.allen-heath.com/media/Xone+K2_UG_AP8509_2.pdf
Ableton is a little restricted when it comes to MIDI SEND so not everything can be mapped straight out of the box so to speak. The difference between PLAY and CUE is the way Ableton reacts to them as commands. Both are seen as note ON/OFF messages but Ableton recognises PLAY differently to CUE. I dont know why... There is a solution but it involves the use of 'MAX' for Live. Using this you can create a custom patch that will give you much more control over MIDI.
Hello. I just bought the Xone K2 but I can not configure it in Ableton Live 9. I'm working on mac Mavericks, I do not know if this is the problem, I installed the drivers for mac X2 XONE an error was generated. Please, help me!
I'd like to point out at this point that there is NO driver required for the K2 on Mac as it is Class Compliant. The 'ERROR' you had may have been the result of trying to update the units firmware using software that is NOT compatible with OS X 10.9 Mavrics. I would recommend updating the units Firmware using a PC or older version of OS X then connecting it to your Mac. Once it is working correctly move on to Ableton... Update the units Firmware using software available from the Allen & Heath K2 web pages.
I don't have one of these, simply looking into it trying to learn the ways of MIDI Mapping and using Ableton Live (Using a DJ Controller + Serato at the moment). Just wondering though, rather than utilising all of the top controls for your EQ, is there a possibility in which you could use the endless controls at the bottom of the K2 to move left and right to select each "deck" ? I tend to create sets like playlists for driving or for the gym, so I'm not entirely bothered about mixing on the fly as such at the moment.
Matt Tanner Ableton Live is an excellent application but limited when it come to MIDI unless you use 'MAX for Live'. MAX for Live will open up endless possibilities with regards to MIDI mapping and other features within Ableton. I dont think you will be able to use the endless controls in the way you want unless you incorporate MAX. In saying that, there is a lot of flexibility with the Allen & Heath Xone:K2. perhaps look into 'Latching Layers' which will give you many more controls to map to Ableton.
Still useful 11 years later. Literally the most straight forward, yet effective overview of setting up Ableton with the K2 for DJing. Thank you sir!
that push-turn-encoder hint was SOOO useful! thanks a lot!
Best vid I have seen on mapping so far thanks.
i am selling my apc40, and bought this k2 today...thank you so much for this video...its brilliant.

found it i think: "audio from" has to be set to master as well, per track. :)

Respect!

Very nice tut! Great job! I've decided now on a controller to help out Pushs' disadvantages as DJ controller) thanks)
those starting parameters for the knobs are set to -12 db for the 12 o clock position. how do you fix this. you didnt fix in the video.
Wow awesome mapping Mate 👍 but the only thing is, I'm not able to download the super luper plugin for my Ableton 9.7.5. is thr an another option?
Thanks for the great video
Great tutorial! However I am having a problem, when I map the fader level it only fading up and down inside the headphones but not bringing the sound up on my speaker. How do I achieve this? Thanks 🙂
Nice video, is it possible to use this controller as mixer, with another midi controller, like the apc 40?
se puede guardar de alguna manera el mapping? para que cuando lo habra ya este cargado? (i play with xone k2)
In the midi ports the input is not showing up and there for I cannot go any futher than this do you have any advice as the k2 and its drivers are installed correctly... Thanks, Matt
You can map what you like once you know how to map the the basics.
Personalise and create a map that suits your way of DJing.
hellow man, i think you need add loop, and various effects... but in other layer no???

I have included a link in the description.

I'm glad I scrolled down to see your comment. Fixed it completely. Thanks.
Could you tell me where that black arrow is?
Hey Mrcuss thanks for your helpful tutorial ! but I still don't understand about the LAYER button and EQ Three? where do I need to get them??
+Gunho Jung Have a look (Google) at 'Latching layers' on the Xone K2. The Xone:K1 dosent have latching Layers.
EQ three can be found under Audio Effects / EQ Three
appreciate the concise narration! just wish we could see your ableton screen, its too poor quality
Loved this Video!
Is there a way to Program a Fader to be Volume when its going up and a repeat effect when it goes down??

How do u make the leds light up for cueing?

O! Thanks many! Thanks a lot!
the link doesn't work anymore :(
What system have you got?
PC / Mac and is the K2 just connected via USB
Great vid, thanks :)
