Would be awesome to make the QSO and to have another VK station on the bird! With the SatMatch website, we could find a pass with a good common footprint. There's usually at least one good pass per day with 20 minutes or more of overlap between Tasmania and Hawaii.
Super cool, it just sucks that all the sats are vhf or higher and it’s cost prohibitive to do non fm up there. I’d love to play with this but we’re talking thousands to try it
I'm not sure where you're from, but here we can get into "workin the birds" for under $100 - hand built tape measure yagi and a baofeng. Eric's setup is super nice, but he's also not just getting started today. You probably have most of the gear you need lying around. I think W5ITR even did a feng w/rubber duck sat contact.
All my sat ops are backyard portable and I use the same type of manual positioning on GreenCube! I have 20 of 43 Japanese Prefectures confirmed so far...
Great fun ! Been some new antenna's just for like green cube ! This is where good coax like ABR or M & P can really help out .Hard to run much power on UHF portable. Great video guys !
There are quite a lot of mobile apps that will show you maps/names/passes. AMSAT also has a good tool for prediction: www.amsat.org/track/index.php. A modern place to start is hams.at/
Hi, I am currently studying for a ham licence an I think this is an interesting aspect of ham radio. where can I find information on how to get started with satalite communication for hams in general?
That was fantastic lads! Think I might have a crack at working Greencube soon! Hopefully I can work Eric directly in Hawaii
You probably have a good chance of working him!

@@KH6WI 5 elements on my arrow antenna should work… I need to find some of those Ram mount alternatives down here.
Be cool to give it a go
@@HamRadioDX I recommend using the 10 element Alaskan Arrow at a minimum. I have tried the 7 element Arrow 2 but found it to not be adequate for me.
Pretty cool stuff, nice of Eric to share!
Sure is!
A great practical demo. Thanks.
Thanks Bruce!
Nice work there TO with Ham Stick Eric!
Thanks Frank!
GREAT TIMING! I need to get Greencube up and running for Field Day! Thanks!
Glad it helped!
It's going to be a mess on field day. I would make sure to get on before then to make sure everything is working and dialed in.
OMG! This was the best Sat vid ever! Great questions TO and great answers Eric!
Wow, thanks!
Awesome primer, thanks guys!
You bet!
Great stuff!

You bet!
Very cool stuff I could watch that all day.
Gotta try it too!
This is making me want to do this!
Me too Greencube is a TON of fun and probably won't be around for too long.

Would be fun!
The joke flew over my head when he said it, lol.
@@KH6WI I was wondering why you left me hanging...

Eric's a good ham
@@temporarilyoffline yep!, I refer to him as the "model ham"
That wind seemed to make it a bit chilly. I miss chilly.
It was pretty chilly! Come on up!
More alien tech to learn. Thnx guys! :)
More to come!
Do you have a recommendation gor a website for the bird frequencies?

Search for w5itr or kh6wi on TH-cam and you'll get a ton of info. Good luck on your test
Was this near Eau Claire WI???
Sure was!
Go Eric
GOAT
next up for that tripod is a satellite dish rotator hacked into that doppler shift program
Exactly - it gets harder and harder to be portable... just get an old TV van.
The PSTRotator program can control many different rotators. I have one but it's just not portable enough to fly with.
Oh ! It’s no shame Eric !
Legend!
Planning on getting on soon with an IC-706Mk2G and a Digirig. Have the antenna and LNA. Here in EM56. 73, Jamie WB4YDL
Hope to work you!
Great video. 🙂
Thanks Colin!
