After ignoring Killing Joke except for their 1st album and couple of early singles I have become obsessed with them. What an incredible band and remarkably intelligent group of individuals they are.
I met Paul Raven in 2004.Spent nearly an hour with him talking about every thing Killing Joke. What a gent he was..And ALLWAYS will be.God bless you fella 👍
I saw Raven play with Ministry in Baltimore in 2006. I went there mainly to see him. So glad I was able to see him, even if it was late in his sadly too short career and his health was declining. He definitely stole the show with his bass solo for the song "Kyber Pass" that I still remember to this day... I'd still say it was the best concert I've been to.
In 1980, Raven "psyched" me into "seismic-bass-playing" - it's a sound often tried but very rarely emulated. So, to me, he remains one of my musical references.
Paul Raven glared at my friend and I at a club before a Ministry gig in 2004(?) Psilocybin notwithstanding, a moment I'll always remember. Now both Raven and my friend are gone.
One of the best talks ever. I've researched NDE for 5 years, and yes, the Soul does transmigrate into a different dimension. Jaz Coleman certainly has a Messianic aura about him.
8:39 What a way to close an interview😎 ...I think Coleman just helped me massively there... Grieving is tough. It's strange how introducing a new theory on death can comfort you so easily.. At the very least, I've learned to keep an open mind. Also, I've learned how boring my comments can be to read. Sorry
Not boring , your expressing your honest feelings 👍yes your correct listening to others express their feelings can help us with our own , death and how we perceive it !!! Spiritual folk tend to see death as a journey rather then a end myself included 👍💜🙏🏻✨☀️
Damn. I was house sound guy at a gig where RevCo was opening for a Ministry. Just looked it up. 7/18/06 and wholly shit just realized I had just gotten my new car exactly a month before(my BDay present to self). Wow. But THIS was the best BDay present ever for me cause it knocked three home runs right out of the park in one shot. Stagehand friend of mine to remain nameless (but nicknamed after a city in Poland) grabs me and says one of the guys wants to smoke a joint and we should sit in my car which was parked adjacent to the buses. Dude in the passenger seat looks like the real deal veteran rock n roller, and say he looks familiar and how would I put the face with whatever. He says in his heavy English accent, “Names Paul, Paul Raven.” And I’m like, “ you mean Prong Raven?” He replies, “well Prong, Killing Joke, Ministry....”, and I’m like realizing that not only after doing sound for too many years and working with rockstars who in my head were generally dorks or prima donnas, but almost rarely had I gotten to hang out or work with this kind of legendary shit. So he goes to twist one up and fumbles it so I pack bat hits and he proceeds to tell me that his,”mate has got the exact same car. This looks exactly the same”. And I’m like “who’s your mate?” He says, “Al”. I respond, “wow that’s pretty fucking cool but surely he had the SRT8 ultra hot rod version and he looked around and said, “no man, the exact same car, black, estate. (Wagon)He doesn’t need the hot rod one. This one’s fast enough!” I’m freaking out on the inside that I’m working with and about to witness from stage or wherever, two of my faves who I had previously assumed would never see live again. And having a production meeting with Paul Raven whIle he tells me that none other than the lead singer of Ministry drives the exact same car as me. Needless to say we busted ass working and then I busted ass playing, and then we busted ass working again loading out and those motherfuckers were so cool and fun it seemed surreal. Def a career marker. NEXT!!!
Brighter than a 1000 suns on my walkman , got me through a shit underpaid factory job some years ago. not my fav kj album but thank god for it! rip paul raven.
Strange. A book I was reading, while sat in the beautiful cemetery next to my flat a couple of hours ago, before watching this, mentioned Schrodinger's Cat. I hadn't thought of it for years. I like it when that sort of things happens.
"... and the rest of it , *smiles ... and here we are ... and here we are ... (along with his favourite Bong here by my side already packed full just waiting to be lit ... again) ..."
THUS SPAKE ZARATHUSTRA NIETZSCHE WOW WHAT A TRIBUTE I HOPE SOMEONE READS THAT AT MY FUNERAL! THE HIGHER WE SOAR THE SMALLER WE APPEAR TO THOSE WHO CANNOT FLY! SAD HIS HEART HE COULDNT SLEEP ON HIS BACK MAN THATS FUCKED SOME PEOPLE DONT EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH WE TAKE FOR GRANTED! LIVE EACH DAY LIKE ITS YOUR LAST IT JUST MAY BE! RIP PAUL RAVEN!
Bloody hell I didn't know he had died, I had a good conversation with him after a gig in 1992, he was saying to me that he likes gong , I had a gong badge on my jacket, then I met the rest of killing joke.😮
that's so cool that he liked Gong. Paul clearly had a wide range of musical taste. He is my favorite bassist and I am trying to emulate his playing style... but there will only ever be one Raven.

R.I.P Paul Raven you were a brilliant bassist
"Get the kettle on Coleman" - brilliant. R.I.P Paul.
I liike this band so much, Paul Raven was brilliant!! Such a great bassist!
In 1980, Raven "psyched" me into "seismic-bass-playing" - it's a sound often tried but very rarely emulated. So, to me, he remains one of my musical references.
Indeed, Paul "is conscious, now, as we speak." Love you, Jaz!
