They won't be voting in Florida, though. Chances are, they'll take any opportunity they can find to move out of state, and I certainly wouldn't blame them. And given that they're AP students, they shouldn't have too much of a problem getting offers from several universities across the country which they can choose from, if they cast their net wide enough.
That's why small town rural America remains staunch in its "outdated" views and ways, because anyone with half a brain or any discriminated characteristic (such as being rainbow, or even Black), gets out as soon as they have an opportunity. It's not because those communities don't change, it's because they ostracise anything different that emerges within them. What's happening in Florida is merely the same dynamic playing out on a state level and, as a result, there won't be any new young voters around to change the voting demographics, because the majority of them will leave in search of somewhere more accomodating.
The few reasonable people that do remain in a backwards area always get balanced out by the arrival of bigoted regressives who left more inclusive communities because they felt personally attacked by the existence of diverse people and the equal rights that were afforded to them. And in Florida, there's no shortage of regressive influxes because all the bigoted old people think it's an attractive place to retire, so honestly Florida is going to get worse and worse unless young people commit themselves to suffering its regression until they have enough voting power to change things. However, that's not really a fair ask of anyone, so I certainly don't blame any young Floridian who makes the prudent and self-preserving decision to leave.

I’ve taught there for almost 2 decades and left because teachers can’t earn a living wage. Most educators must supplement their income with addt’l jobs. Having an MA makes little difference. I know principals who have left because this is a pressure cooker. DUHSantis wants to turn FL into another MI or AL. So much for the “Sunshine/Right to Work State”. 😢 Yet I hope that these young voices can continue to advocate for themselves and have the best legal rep necessary to allow history to be taught with transparency.

And unlike the US, where the poorer/less populated states offer lower teaching salaries than the richer/more densely populated states, the higher salaries in Canada are in these poorer/less populated provinces and territories to draw in and keep teachers there, because education is prioritized.
You deserve more than $4k a month. Idk what your cost of living is, but I cannot imagine you have much left over to save, and I am positive that Texas teachers living in Dallas, Austin, and other large cities would not agree that $4k a month is a comfortable wage.
