This “Could” be my GREATEST Carboot Find, of All Time!

- Welcome back to another live game hunting where I go around charity shops, pawn shops, CEX anywhere I can find games and game related awesomeness!
We’ll also be looking for anything we don’t need for the collection to either trade into CEX for in store credit or to sell for a profit on eBay to help build the collection.
In this video we’re hitting up the Late One, a strict 11am start carboot just outside Aylsham, and I manage to find what COULD be my best carboot find ever, it’s always a gamble buying untested consoles, but this time is it worth the gamble?
Also I manage to find multiple PS5 games, including one for just a quid, as well as other video games and even a retro toy!

You can generally tell which stalls you’ll get bargain games. Somebody who sells a lot of games knows the value, where the stalls who sell tons of other junk and the odd game more than likely don’t know the value, but I guess that means they’ll either underprice or overprice lol
Yeah this is true I always love it when all games are a quid lol. The worst ones for getting bargain are when they look up the price or have them already priced but can still get some hidden gems there
Congrats man! I actually had a similar experience last week, picked up the PS3 which is PS2 version. No cables paid £5 took a gamble and it worked!
Car boots can be a blessing at times!
Amazing find! Goes to show, sometimes it’s worth the gamble especially if you can get it cheap enough
When you get games that only trade in for 1p it can be worth just keeping hold of them for spare cases
This is true, crazy to think how much value these have lost, but still great games!

The comments from others, I note with specific interest, I have a working PS3, the same version you picked up, yeah it kicks out a ton of heat whilst it's running. The old 1970's console, you passed on, at the start of the video, I would've wanted to buy that, I take it by the shape of the controller pictured on the back of the box it would be one the many variations of what was best sold as the Interton VC 3000, great games, played the library via emulation, but probably you were correct to pass, since the cartridge shells were deliberately designed not to fit into other variants of the machine that contained the same chip-sets, like you mentioned in the video, so probably impossible to find games, if it works?
Strangely I have 2 or 3 boxed games for it, I had a very rough boxed version of the console a few years ago but got rid of it due to space sadly.
Honestly o think my love of gaming starts around the 8bit era so sadly anything before that is kinda lost on me.
I think that’s a main issue of the PS3 the overheating and it’s something I want to take care of sooner rather than later.

I think he does house clearances and just wanted rid, I guess he just didn’t know what he had like you said and also didn’t know if it worked, hard to test if you don’t have wires, but glad my gamble paid off!

Fantastic find mad love the turtles figure. Has for the ps3 console I'd definitely have grabbed it but all I'd recommend is get it serviced has even when unused it can develop issues especially with the thermal paste etc . When I've found consoles of that age I plan to keep I always get it serviced .
Yeah I was very pleased with a vintage TMNT figure for just a quid!
I’m going to take it to my local retro gaming shop Last Level Games and ask if they can redo the thermal paste as I’m not quite confident myself.

I’ve still got my 60gb PS3 bought it the day it came out. I’ll never sell it even have the box with all the inserts.

Great find Dan. The only disappointment was as you were flicking through the CDs I saw Start Something(that allegedly had a hooded Justin Timberlake on the cover, which was denied) by Lost Prophets. That album should have been destroyed. As much as I used to love the song Shinobi Vs Dragon Ninja and many others, I destroyed all my LP albums after Watkins horrific crimes came to light.
Yeah it was a horrible act and totally unforgivable.
I do agree the album should be forgotten which is a shame as they made some amazing music but as a person he is a monster
I found a PSP for only 10 euros in a carboot no battery oor charger but still worth it with a rayman game included. I found a T80 racing wheel for ps3 and ps4 for only 10 euros and even finally found a bunch of ps1 games granted only playstation magazine demos and 3 complete games 2 of which are racers and one sport but for 2e each it was a hell of a bargain by maltese standards.
That does sound like a great deal and it’s always worth taking a risk on PSP consoles as the batteries are super easy to replace, great find on the steering wheel and games also!

Great find🤘 i too have a backwards compatible PS3 but scared to death of it developing YLOD. Ive had it professionally refurbished (which cost more than i paid for the console) but refuse to play PS2 games on it as from what i understand its PS2 game that make the console work harder therefore overheat. I just use a hacked PS3 slim to play PS2 game and that works fine. My 60gb PS3 is now a collectors piece/ trophy 😂
Thanks! That’s a shame that the main reason I wanted the console is the most likely reason to kill it lol, I think I’m going to have to get it refurbished, least I got it for a cheap price so it makes the cost less painful lol
Which model of console have you got hacked?
@DanTheGamesMan CHEC 2503B PS3 Slim. There's some good walkthrough guides to help and the most important a checker to make sure its able to take a full CFW. Hen is partial and cannot play PS2 but Full can. I'm using Evilnat/cobra with a 1tb upgrade and dump my PS2 game to the HDD. I also recommend getting 'Brook Wingman xe2' so you can use PS4/5 controller with 'Full' use (sixaxis and home button)

Amazing find. I think the games on there own were worth it so if it didn't work not a huge loss. I'm pretty sure not working for parts is worth more than what they were selling it for. I'm sure you could get at least £30 for a none working model of that ps3
Yeah that’s how I knew my money was safe to be fair, with the games alone but like you said could easily sell it for parts on eBay also, I need to start taking more risks lol
Definitely even if it was broken still worth it, has it been opened or still has its original seal over the side? I think the paste breaks up on them but can always be fixed!
I took a punt on eBay last night and bought a boxed ps3 500gb with 26 games for £189 it is however the god of war boxes version so also comes with the god of war controller ! Looks decent condition , didn’t come with any rare games apart from siren blood curse ! Thanks for the video

Another tell tale sign if it is BC, is if the silver strip at the disctray is chrome/shiny ✌️

Nice find mate and the thing is even if it did not work you could have easily sold it faulty for a profit on eBay
This is one of the reasons I’m going to be taking more risks with picking up consoles at carboots, you can get some half decent eBay money for parts only faulty consoles

I feel like I overpaid with my £40 pickup last month for my backwards compatible PS3!
That’s still an asking bargain, I just got lucky with this bargain!

My one thing I personally would do. Is replace the thermal paste as it probably is dry as a bone.
As the yellow light of death is rife with those consoles.
Also DO NOT put The Last Of Us in that console!
It is notorious for killing the fat PS3 consoles.
As it is, super hard work to run for the old chaps.😂
Lastly the Battlefield 4 Steelbook.
I would buy the 360 version and put it in that Steelbook.
As the PC discs are unusable as they are one use codes.

I know from personal experience that they're pretty temperamental. I've had two.
One yellow light and the other disc drive died. I'm kicking myself for that one
As I didn't know at the time, how easy it was to replace it.
There are more things you can do to protect the console but they aren't the cheapest. If you don't want to do it yourself.

The CECHC03 is also backwards compatible, I have one and it also has the card reader slots & 4 usb slots
Thanks, I know there’s a few models which have these features, I think the CECHC03 was the very first batch of PS3 consoles
Yep bought mine on laugh day, unfortunately mine has the yellow light of death but I re flow it every 6 months and it's still going strong lol
@@charliecatmoo9773 what do you mean by re flow? I remember my mate getting on just after launch and being blown away playing Heavenly Sword!
Due to over heating some of the solder joints fail on the main chip, and no longer make contact with the board. Re flowing allows for a semi permanent solution of bridging that gap. But heat will cause it to break away again. It can be repaired but too costly for such an old console.

Dan have seen Fifa 19 for I questioned that price off 40 pound in Cex for Xbox 360 even the Mega drive aren't that 40 pound
I think it’s just because it’s a very rare game for the Xbox 360, the last game in a franchise such as FIFA released for a console nearly always demands a high price

Be careful not to let that PS3 get too hot, too often, unless it’s been delidded and thermal paste replaced already. They’ve got a design “fault” in that really crappy thermal paste came from factory and YLOD is very common on these. Letting them run hot, often, is going to accelerate the dryout. Unfortunately it’s not a case of if, but when with these before the fail. To lengthen the lifespan, go under the 3 hours max per play session and let it cool to room temp before another session. Delidding to replace the TP is risky and expensive if you daren’t do it yourself and even then to a pro there’s still a risk of damage to the CPU as they really did glue the internal heat sink direct to the chips. You can keep them alive longer just by limiting run time - always power off, never on standby. Ultimately, if you want to use it as your primary gaming machine, you should look to get it delidded whilst it’s still running. You will get years out of it then if you do a proper refurb on it. Good luck in anycase - great find - have fun!
Thanks I’ve had a few people comment this and I did know this is a common fault and what sadly killed a lot of these amazing consoles.
I may get my local retro game shop to replace the thermal paste for me as I’m not too confident lol.

I normally sell for the CEX voucher price so someone can get a deal and it saves me going to CEX lol
