Jack, after 32 years as an OTR driver I got to thinking today how many holidays I've spent on the road away from family and friends and the answer was way too many ! I hope you're home enjoying some down time yourself I enjoyed todays film thanks for another ride along from my laptop, be safe and make sure Ole red gets some rest too.

Hi again Indiana Jack, I just wanted to tell you that the reason I said I was an old, old, old timer was because I started trucking before the Interstate system was completed. Trucking was mostly done on two lane State routes. There are probably very few of us old, old, old timers still around. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks! Happy trails!

Ft Wayne, Indiana, I live just 10 mile from there. That pilot there years back use to be called and always will be known as Fort Meyers truck stop or some call it Fort Meyers servise center. Few years back its name changed to Fort Wayne truck stop. Just couple years ago Pilot bought the whole ground. Pilot also owns the McDonalds that sits next to it. Theres been some talk of leveling the whole thing and building a huge truck stop. We will see. Next time your through the area stop out to Grabill and we will get ya some homemade buscuits and gravy. MMMMM Good.. Be safe out there...

Jack i often wonder when i cross the Mississippi or the navigation system that comes up into Oklahoma along the Arkansas River to Tulsa just how many more roads and trucks there would be if we didnt have the barges to haul all that freight that goes up and down the rivers.

Was sort of expecting a coolant issue update as an addendum to the passing grade on the pre-trip. Inquiring minds want to know these little details with the big possible price tag. Back in the good old days I would be leaning quite strongly towards adding some old fashioned Bar's Leak in there if it actually was getting away from me, but the good stuff seems to be hiding from me lately. Combined with possible issues with rarefied, expensive, required, and exotic coolants that might not be so compatible, it becomes a dilemma. Thanks for the bird day extra efforts taken to keep us entertained, have a good one.

-->That scale ticket looks perfect, more weight on the tractor than trailer as we know tail heavy trailers can be dangerous, but you are not over weight on any axle(s).
--> I'm a bit antisocial myself. I seem to be my own best company, LoL. But I will chat up a storm one on one.
-->A lot of time if you are leaking coolant into the oil, the oil will turn light brown or there will be bubbles on the dip stick or both. By then you know it's time the head gasket needs replacing, again. I know last time you did it, those repairs got expensive, turned into a rebuild project.
-->Yeah you make as many videos as you want, talk to us. We enjoy your videos, even though some of us like yours truly who is retired. It's been years since I drove a truck, as I owned a Machine Shop and I enjoyed taking out my CH612 Mack doing some deliveries and some pick up's. That allowed me to look like a working guy which I was and, give me a reason to communicate with the customers on their level. The customers respected me because I didn't simply have one of my employees doing all the work and I was available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
--> The rain makes me sleepy easier, the pitter patter of it beating on the roof.
--> Cute dumpster dogs lol... I love animals.
-->WOW that is some bridge across the Mississippi river! I love bridges over water. I think this bridge was built just after WWII, as it's riveted instead of welded, regardless, it's very old. I think if today, it would be a concrete suspension bridge. This bridge shows the quality of USA produced steel and workmanship from our steel industry back then. I worked in big steel (Phoenix Steel and Iron) just out of technical school as a maintenance machinist and temporary 50 ton over-head crane operator. The sent me and paid for some of my night school until the place when bankrupt.

Wow!! Electronic logs, GPS, 30 min. breaks ...... I was one of those unfortunate ones who drove in a day where we weren't allowed to be 'out of hours'. We simply 'backed our paper logs up', or started another one .... sometimes 2-3 at a time. Or went around the scales at nighttime, or,as I did most of the time, wait till nighttime and shut the lights off and cruise on by them. Not smart ..... just job protection in those times. I'm thankful for today's trucker that they don't run like we did .... Usually so tired we were all over the road, usually half-dozen. Travel safely drivers, and Gods Blessings on you all!

Thanks again! Maybe the service people are of younger generation because I remember it was in -90:ies when Cummins and International had some kind of obligatory supplement for coolant in order to not ruin those engines. Haven't heard of that kind of things used lately and I think Volvo may concentrate on their own engines mainly (they are major players here besides Scania). Well, I'm no trucker anyhow so I don't hear the latest news. Happy Thanksgiving!

Jack, what's the deal with 53' trailers? I drove one 14-wheeler, Freightliner cabover, pulling the same 40' trailer back in the 1970's. (It was a TV mobile unit, so I never had to deal with all you have.) There were some 48' trailers just starting to come into common use, and we shied away from those. It looks like everyone is using 53' ones now. WOW! My hat's off to you guys. I don't know how you manage something that long, not using a cabover. But, it looks like you are still limited to 80,000 pounds. Yes?

When I was running my little boom truck, small crane, I would get customers calling me up to lift some 3000lbs item and when I get to the job it turns out to be 10,000lbs. They act like I should try to lift it all though the crane's load chart states that it won't do 10,000lbs for that given reach(radius). People can be really stupid.

In general I run into 20 or so truckers dropping off the live unload and waiting to get out. A majority of the OTR truckers are unkept, look like they slept in the same cloths, etc. They are nice people. But most trucking companies don't hold their drivers to any standard of presentation. On the other hand. The local guys that go home every night and just run milk routes. They look like the average guy in line for food. So my point is the OTR lifestyle leads to a general appearance that is not professional. Too many people follow the path of least resistance, and thus a reputation is built on.

back in the late 80's i started out in a 85' cabinover freightshaker , then a 78 peterbilt c/o, and a 82 gmc astro c/o , and i must honestly voice my opinion that all three were hot in the summer and cold in the winter ,after that drove hoods which is way better, c/o' s look cool but you do sacrifice by not being comfortable .
