Thank you for the detailed description of how to take one of these locks apart it helped out a lot these BMWs are definitely unique cars you don't find these kind of weirdo problems on any other car besides BMW

Thanks for the great video. I clamped a vice grip lightly around the lock cylinder then used a clamp to fasten the vice grip to my workbench.
It took very little time to put everything back together using this method.

Being left handed, I had some troubles with the spring. Luckily a friend stopped by and was able to hold the spring for me while i assembled the last few pieces. Easy install and considerably cheaper than going to a mechanic or dealer. Thanks for the parts and informative video, huge huge help!

Excellent video. I watched this several times while waiting for the parts to be delivered, then again when I got the parts to figure out which one piece was for left door, then I while I was working on my lock 3rd try I watched and assembled at the same time. I had to do this while sitting in my passenger seat, I used a plastic shopping bag as my table. I had the key in the lock and pushed against my body and my phone on my leg. I didn't have grease so I used all the old greasy parts except the broken one and then after I put the lock back into the car I sprayed it with PB Blaster (WD 40) then programed my keys so I won't get locked out again.

O man! 7$ and a half hour I'm able to lock the 330ci again! Actuator still wont allow me to use the fob for the drivers door, WHICH IS NOT DEAD!!!! I found out the hard way by cutting into the fob and testing the battery to find out it still had 3.2 Volts. Thanks a ton for this video!

Thank you very much for your help.
You turned a major PITA job into a very easy fix.
    Note::
I didn't take the interior panel off to gain access to the 4 mm Allen Bolt that holds the door lock to the actuator.
Go to 6:49 of this Vid to show you the plastic access cover on the door jam to view the cover:: Repairing door handles on a BMW X5 2000 thru 2006
I also used a ball end 4mm long allen tool. When I loosened the bolt, I then held the allen tool in place with tape to the door (leaving the tool in the access hole and taping to the door). This helps by not letting the allen bolt fall down the inside of the door, using long pliers didn't work for me as it couldn't get enough purchase on the bolt.
I used a plastic pry tool and my door key to wiggle out the lock.
With the allen tool still inserted and taped to the door, I pushed the allen bolt back through (outward) the actuator and taped the threads to stop the allen bolt falling into the door. This allowed me to take the lock to somewhere comfortable and repair the look. I took the allen tool out of the way so it didn't get bumped but what ever works for you.
When I repaired the lock, I removed the tape of the exposed threads sticking out out side of the door.
I gently pushed the bolt back into the door while holding the allen tool into the head of the allen bolt.
When the thread is flush with the actuator, I taped the allen tool to the door again to hold the allen bolt an stop the bolt from falling into the door.
Don't forget to lube the lock mechanism, I used a silicon spray, I had never used the key to unlock the car, it was only when I had a flat battery that I realised I couldn't unlock the car as the lock was Fooked.
I inserted the key into the lock to assist in wiggling the door lock back into the actuator. I wiggled the lock as flush as I could and tightened the allen bolt to bring it all into place.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers Gaz

    Thanks for the video!
I got good at this because I had to repeat the job 4 times as my key would only turn one way-then I realized the problem; I had lost some of the tumblers from the cylinder. DO NOT PUT KEY IN CYLINDER WHEN OUT OF ITS SLEEVE.
Temp Fix I ended up just removing all tumblers-reinstalling as normal and can use the key to actuate the door lock. spring back function works both directions...obviously not great for long term security, but I guess I will have to order a new cylinder from the dealer.
My 2 cents...The Spring seemed easier in 3 stages "profanity helps here too"
1.Like in the Video: Using the Ball Point Pen Tip-work the spring end around and in to its locked position (the radius of the spring is not yet centered around the lock cylinder- dont worry, just get the end where it needs to be, and maintain downward pressure to keep it in place for a second)
    2. NOT SHOWN IN VIDEO: While still holding the end in place with the pen-Use the actuator arm you have ready for the next step to push the spring radius back over the cylinder, which will help push the top of the spring over the lock cylinder into its position. At this point YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO UNHOOK THE PEN and that top end will stay secure, allowing you to let go of everything and take a minute to regain your grip/sanity before next step of attaching the arm and securing with clip
    3. Now you can strategically re-position the unit for comfort on a bench or against your belly (think about Eye Safety here) and again Like in the video: use the actuator arm to compress the spring further this time, and slip the locking clip sleeve into position.
    Good luck

I put that spring on and didnt twist, compress and attach around and it lock still works. Twisting that spring around is incredibly difficult and probably puts stress on the little piece that breaks

Do NOT grease the assembly if you live in a cold climate. The grease will solidify, gum up the works, and cause it to break again. Use silicone spray instead. I know this from experience. Otherwise this is a good video of the assembly process.

For some reason the part that you didn't use (said was for "right-hand-drive" vehicles) was the correct part in my U.S. left-hand-drive 2000 BMW 323i. Also if you leave your key in the lock after taking the lock out, the cylinder can fall out and only goes in one way (you can put it in the wrong way, if you do the parts won't be flush)
