Vancouver Island Tree Stories-SITKA SPRUCE (NATURAL)

www.VancouverIslandTreeStories.ca is a multi-media project by Richard Boyce highlighting tree species growing native on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Each unique species will be presented with short videos focusing on the Natural, Traditional, and Modern elements to reflect the way in which these trees are found in the landscape today. This video focuses on the nature of Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) Found in lush soil near the coast, often in alluvial floodplains, where ocean air provides essential minerals with summer fog, often the only moisture during the dry months. These giants often tower over the rest of the forest structure. Massive branches support ecosystems of lush growth suspended high up in the canopy creating aerial gardens.
