Won for "Best Adapted Screenplay." But don't ever expect him to win for best picture or best director, even if he gets 6 more Black directors as Academy members to vote for him.
That may be true, but I disagree with the notion that Academy members should nominate people because they're "overdue" rather than the quality of their current work.
Well his sister actually wrote it. he definitely had input (and there's a kid who's supposed to be young lee) but that's very much the story of his sister's POV growing u in Brooklyn.
Stop the trolling. Spike Lee is an icon in his own right. He paid his dues in Hollywood and is very deservant of an Oscar. And anything you say doesn't matter because he's still going to sleep well at night and do what he loves, by making movies/shows thats influence the human conscious mind. Cheers to him.
Thanks, Leslie. Thanks, Spike. Because of this piece, I was able to see past first impressions (such a crazy human phenomenon!) to glimpse Spike's heart. Now I want to go back and dive into his important work. Keep bringing it, Spike. Keep bringing it, Leslie.
Spike you are an extremely talented director. Does not matter if you win an oscar or not. That movie Miracle at St. Anne was a Master piece. People don't even know about that movie it's also a true story. Just goes to show how prejudice the Oscars are. That movie as well as some of your other works should have been well advertised, just like they advertise their movies, even their horrible movies get overly advertised. They are afraid of your talent. Would love to have you produce the first Black Sherif Bass Reeves movie, also a true story.
As a pre-9/11, born in 1981, from The Bronx Puerto Rican, I love, love, love 25th Hour! Leave it to a New Yorker like Spike Lee to be the first director to show Ground Zero AND tastefully incorporate the tragedy into a well written story. God bless you, Spike 🇵🇷🇺🇸😎
I agree Spike Lee is a great director, and I do hope he gets an Oscar, but it's all in the timing, or I should say Hollywood timing as to what movies come out and when they come out. All of Spikes Lee's movies are fantastic, but when the Oscar nominees are chosen, it's not only about how great the movie is and how great the director, actors, etc, etc are, it's about ratings too... AND when great movies come out at the same time, it's difficult to choose who to give it too. I do hope Spike gets his Oscar for Best Director, maybe in the future plan your movie to come out when not so many other great movies are on the list... just an opinion... Good Luck Spike Lee, I think you might just get it this year ~~
I love that Leslie Stahl brought up the Driving Miss Daisy/Green Book connection. I told my partner the same thing, same thing. By the by, Driving Miss Daisy won all the awards, except Morgan Freeman lost. Hmmmm.
I have to say this, Mr. Spike. I have enjoyed your movies immensely. Some with the seriousness they so rightly deserved. Some with the joy of laughter . Don't ever stop making movies.... Keep riding the opposing teams that come to play our beloved Knicks.... Lord knows they need some help....
Luckily in 2020 when I saw this film, Spike won an Oscar for it, Denzel’s Boy(John David Washington) is featured in a mad Christopher Nolan(Inception’s Creator) film & Juneteeth is being taken more seriously as a day of reflection and remembrance of Black struggle in the United States.
Irrespective of what one may think of his latest film, good or bad; he deserves to win for his legacy. others have won for legacy, if not for the film that is nominated, why shouldn't he?
I wish Spike would win because hands down of all the Best Picture nominees Blackkklansman is the best. However, Alfonso Cuaron (who's already won it recently I might add) has swept the precursors so it'd be a miracle if he wins it.
He’s done some good work. That Oscar is worthless. All he needs to know is that people really enjoy his films and he’s good at it ! That Oscar has gone to some real questionable movies which leads me to believe it’s worthless!
Philip Moore DMD was a really great film...the story & acting was definitely spot on and along with Shawshank it was probably Morgan Freeman’s best performance ever.
