I accidentally came across this video performance by Alexander Malofeev. Absolutely splendid. Malofeev is in his high carat musical element a young keyboard master in total control of the musical notes he creares with such technical aplomb. Altinoglu at the baton certainly knows how to temper the rythym and harmony of thr entire, phenomenal performance. Heaven sent, soul robbing musical feat.

Der intelligente und geniale Dirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete Orchester im veränderlichen Tempo und mit möglichst effektiver Dynamik. Wundervoll und atemberaubend zugleich!

Ethnische Musik ist als eine Art von Musik bekannt, die zur Kultur einer bestimmten Gemeinschaft und einer bestimmten Region gehört. Im Gegensatz zu den anderen Genres trägt sie durch die darin enthaltenen Instrumente, Rhythmen, Melodien und Texte zur musikalischen Demonstration einer bestimmten ethnischen Kultur bei. Auf diese Weise ist es ein guter Leitfaden für gegenwärtige und zukünftige Generationen.
Wunderschöne und lebhafte Aufführung dieser romantischen und einfallsreich komponierten Rhapsodie mit klar artikulierten und gut phrasierten Tönen des genialen Solopianisten sowie gut harmonisierten und perfekt vereinigten Tönen aller anderen Instrumente. Die achtzehnte Variation klingt echt romantisch und schmachtend. Im Gegenzug klingt die letzte Variation echt lebhaft und auch spannend. Der intelligente Maestro leitet das erfahrene hr-Sinfonieorchester im veränderlichen Tempo und mit effektiver Dynamik. Danke fürs Hochladen!

To Erik: The phrase "musical genius" is thrown around quite often in these posts, but not intending to offend you, would you mind explaining how this 'satisfactory' performance of a work that's well-played by nearly every concert pianist in the world, inspires you to single out this 22-year-old as the greatest musical genius [quite the claim, I'd say!] you've ever seen?
At least according to the internet, the first recording of this piece was done (with Rachmaninoff himself no less, among others) by RCA with the Philadelphia orchestra at Trinity Church Studio in Camden NJ back in 1935, not more than five minutes from where I live. Times have sure changed. One thing that has not changed is RCA Victor's iconic Nipper, who still has a statue here at the center of town.

I love his new "do"...very bohemian. I never appreciated this music so much until hearing Alexander Malofeev performance of it. I am so glad to be alive to do so now that tension between my country (USA) and Russia are less volatile.
