    He makes handling his animals look like a work of art. That results in happy and calm spiders and other inverts! You could be an online professor for invertebrate care. Emperor scorpions glow a pretty green under uv light ❤ maybe show us with a uv light sometime

    That made a pleasant change - nice to hear the interaction with Camera Lady as well, asking some great questions. 👍
    I’ve only a couple of tiny issues with scorpions: The sting, the claws, they don’t understand English - but they *do* look amazing under UV light, and there’s science behind that, it’s not just a quirky party trick. Could never own one though, but great footage and congrats on your new beasties - good luck with pairing; now *that* will be a fascinating video to watch. 👍❤️💙😉

  • @Snailslow69
    @Snailslow69 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Had some both for myself and the shop I used to work in before I believe they became illegal to import. I will add they appear to drink a lot, so the water bowl is important. The sting isn't even that bad. They would rather push away with the tail when irritated than sting. You really have to work at it and get caught by accident for a sting. First time I got a very small blister like mark and a barely noticeable electric sensation up my arm. Nothing since (could have been dry stings, those). Only reason I was stung at all was I couldn't stop handling them and showing them off. And if you play with fire long enough you will get burned eventually as the saying goes.

    I got a gravid Asian forest scorpion (with a little haggling) when the shop I ordered a spider from contacted me asked if I could cancel or take an equivalent cost alternative. Really cool experience seeing the mom carry them around. I found scorpions way easier and less worrying than tarantulas. No bolts, not teleporting, not climbing up the side, and more likely to pinch than poke haha. She always walked around like a tank too. Ended up really enjoying caring for it, but left it in China with a friend who really liked seeing it whenever he came over.

    I used to volunteer at a Butterfly Pavilion. They had several large tanks with Emperor Scorpions. I was amazed at how very social they were with one another. They had 4 adults in each tank and they seemed to really like being with one another. They also seemed very gentle when being handled. Not to mention how beautiful they were.

    That white stuff in with the scorpion is called Perlite, I'm almost positive. I use it when I'm growing mushrooms. It also retains moisture quite beautifully and is great to lock it in. I hope your ear gets better, Dave! I hate earaches!

    I had an emperor scorpion some years back. I never used to pick it up like that i always scooped it up from behind. Mine used to just lay itself totally flat on my hand with the tail laid out up my wrist. I think it enjoyed soaking up the body heat.

    Another informative and captivating video from the Beastie Room...
    I don't know how I feel about scorpions, we have lots of very small and almost translucent ones here in Coastal Australia though I'm told they have an impressive sting on them, they have extremely small pincers so I guess venom is nessesary, we get so many coming into the house that we have shag pile carpet mats in front of the doors as they get stuck in it and can't get out until I safely collect them up and take them back down to the scrub at the foreshore... Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience with Scorpions with 'YALL'.
    Thanks Mrs Dave's Camera Lady, and as always... Mr Dave and his little beasties.👍😃👍

    Ohhh, "loamy"... Dave breaking out the geology terms 😂. I love the soil mix. I use Cypress mulch, fir bark, orchid bark, etc, in my soil mixes as an aggregate for burrowing tarantulas like Ephebopus. They'll web to the larger pieces and reinforce their burrows. It also allows a bit of airflow in the soil, so it doesn't get stagnant down in the burrow. One down side: the bark is prone to molding slightly, especially right after setting up the enclosure. It's not that yellow potting mold (common with coco fiber), it's a white-grey fluff mold. I'd add a few springtails, and they'll usually eat it right up. If not, the mold will use up all the nutrients on the surface in about 2 weeks, and it'll just die off.
