This guy beat Amuro and the RX-78-02 in a standard MS-06F Zaku II with just a heat hawk. That is unbelievably impressive considering all the high performance MS and Zeon aces piloting them Amuro faces and destroys.
I mean, this was still when Amuro was a bit green I believe but that still makes this an impressive win for Doan considering other veterans still weren’t a match

Agreed! They managed to make the zaku look a lot less clunky with how they articulated his movements, almost as if he's being driven by a seasoned veteran and experienced mech pilot. So cool!
To be fair, by that time, Amuro was not a new player and Doan was indeed a super elite veteran, but even Doan was a veteran, if not for the collapsing cliff, things will end quite badly for Doan. Doan was not winning and Amuro was learning his move. In the end of movie,when facing high mobile Zaku II piloted by a veteran, Amuro was totally toying with the guy.
I'm fully expecting the original series to get a full remaster like this for the 50th anniversary in a few years, and I cannot wait to see it all over again. I hope the original VAs will make it to then, but I wouldn't mind a brand new cast either.
No idea. I generally don't like how the MS move in this movie. They are more like people dressed in armor than giant MS. In Hathaway, you can feel MS move with much more substance and inertia, and really makes you feel the scale and power of the MS more.

Gundam has those head mounted Vulcan cannons perfect in this grapple situation and doesnt use them, and seemingly forgets big heavy mech is in gravity and weight matters xD

So that's why they didn't make some survivable mobile suit but in Gundam Thunderbolt i see io flaming survive by detaching his gundam and his core i don't know much about gundam parts but yeah you can survive depend what mobile suit you use
@bamantioindrahidayat1165 both sides didn't even try to make a survivable mobile suit, the mass produced gundam RGM 79 actually was never able to detach its core the only variant that could detach its core was Thunderbolt variant
MS at this time were nuclear powered and designed for space. An MS reactor wasn’t guaranteed to blow, and at this point the explosions were relatively small, and sometimes they do just disable from damage and pilots will even try to do just that. When beam weapons became more common the chain reactions likewise happened more, since beams always cause a reaction if they hit the reactor. In space, where these machines were primarily designed to operate, this isn’t too bad but it’s devastating in atmosphere. A good example is the first episode of Unicorn where a ReZel goes nuclear and obliterates entire blocks in a colony and even puts a hole in it. tl;dr MS being powered by reactors is the reason they sometimes blow. In space this isn’t as big a deal and tbh when you’re hit in space you’re usually dead anyway.

feels weird how the Movable Frame was supposed to give MS more agility/better movement when OYW suits are shown to be just as agile and poseable with their primitive tech.
The movable frame was more about extending the range of motion possible while maintaining armour strength, the suits likely kept around about the same mobility while being able to up their armour

Honestly, it seems movable frame exists only as a plot device and Gundam writers/animators just don't care to keep everything consistent with it.

It essentially solved the problem transformable MSs had with stability during transformation and gave rise to the Zeta line of MSs.
You've got to take into account his current circumstances living in the island. He had people to protect all while making full use of a decidely shit mobile suit made even shittier by its current state of disrepair. Ambush tactics are literally his only recourse if he wanted to make it out of most of his battles alive.
Doan is Trying to Preserve his Things as Much as Possible. He has already Deserted from Zeon Army, so he cant Afford To Lose his Weapons or even Energy for the Heat Axe.

Really, he throw away his beam rifle. I mean I get it he's just a kid. But come on, he could have at least attached it to the back of his mobile suit. Or create distance between him and the Zaku to shoot it.
Yeah I think there are some pretty distasteful action sequences across the whole movie, on top of having characters making strange decisions in combat. The action almost feels limited in some scenes because of that. I think this is the result of unimaginative direction from project leads like the director.

The Originの時系列だと、ジャブロー戦の後だから、シャアのズゴックをジムで(ウッディ大尉のファンファンがいたといえ)相手した後なんだよね。それでドアンが乗っているとはいえ、ガンダムでザク相手に苦戦してるのは、今更ながらなんか違和感。。。
更にあとにシャアザクと対峙した時も、シャアが気を逸らした瞬間を討ち取ったといえ、足場の悪いジブラルタルの岩山の上で赤い彗星と互角に鍔迫り合いしてたし。それこそこのドアンとの出会いやベルファスト・大西洋の戦いで急成長したのかもしれないけど、あまりにも初期のアムロ感が強すぎる

そもそもこの世界のビームに質量があるかどうかわかんないんだけど、仮にビーム部に質量がない場合取り回しがもう少し楽なのでは?と思ったり。少なくとも鈍器に近いザク斧よりは軽いはずだしどうせ振り回すんならもっと軽快になるような???
薪割り斧と百均スポンジ剣くらい質量に差があってもおかしくないと思うんだけど。
あとビーム刃は通常刃物や鈍器と違うので、刃を走らせたり運動の力を乗せてぶん殴ったりする必要がなくどちらかというと押し当てたり薙ぎ払ったりする戦い方になると思うんだよなぁ。
なんかの資料でヒート剣✖︎ビームサーベル、ビームサーベル✖︎ビームサーベルが鍔迫り合いすることに強引な説明がされてるの見たことあるから、まぁ殺陣として斬り合いが成立するのは良しとして、ヒート武器とビームサーベルはレンジ帯こそ同じものの武器の性質は全く異なるからアクションも全く違うものになるのではないかと。
ドアンがーとかアムロがーって言う話なら他のパイロットの場合は?ってことにもなるし、誰かこの辺のアクションについて納得できる考察ください。メタい話は抜きで。
ちなみに鉄血みたいに鈍器×鈍器で殴り合うのは大好物です。

ビームサーベルの描写についてはハッキリ言って作品ごとにバラバラだからあんまし気にしない方がいい
特に初代ガンダムとオリジンはMSが人間的な動きをするし
ドアンの強さに関しては本編観ろとしか言えない

Really, he throw away his beam rifle. I mean I get it he's just a kid. But come on, he could have at least attached it to the back of his mobile suit. Or create distance between him and the Zaku to shoot it.
Yeah I think there are some pretty distasteful action sequences across the whole movie, on top of having characters making strange decisions in combat. The action almost feels limited in some scenes because of that. I think this is the result of unimaginative direction from project leads like the director.
