    This is so cool! I love seeing all these different interpretations of the same brief. They're all really beautiful! And you're very brave to take on such a competition and put yourself out there. I love the 'S' in your logo and that sound bar is subtle but really clever and clean!
    I feel like as long as every designer thought well about the concept and made conscious decisions, then it eventually comes down to what you (the viewer or the client) value most. I find myself weighing the pros and cons of every design and of course personal taste plays a big role. I take inspiration from all five of them, but my winner would be... (drum roll) ...the flamingo design! The scenery just takes me there and the dark green and orange tones give it that premium feel for me. Great video. Love it. ❤️ I'm gonna vote now. 🙃

    I think everyone's a winner!🎉🎉 😁😁 Design wise, I would be happy to see all of them on a retail store 🙂
    Each one evokes different feel and so that reflected on their designs, but maybe if it was possible, to actually have the product on hand. I'd say having knowledge about the scent of the product would really help the Designers? Because the products scents are different isn't it and words or theme are interpret differently. But if they find the common ground of the scent and theme..and when it comes together that might be another next level design. 😄😄 Anyways I don't know what I'm talking about. No ones gonna read this anyway. If you did! Thank you!

    Jorge's design is my favourite. Love the minimalism and elegance of the package design, the different colours for each does the work, enough to imagine an extension for a potential range. The others feel too busy imo, Matt's a good second. Though I'd place Joanne's as third, hers would be the most visually appealing on a shelf, relative to what the product is (the one I'd imagine grabbing the most people's attention).
    Pedro's design's use of right aligned text on the packaging bothered me, but al-in-all each are strong contenders!

    All great designs! For me, Joanne's definitely has the most premium and tropical feel. Also ticking the "modern" checkbox. But for shelf appeal, I'd say the winner is Abi. Matt’s was the best and the one I’d buy passing it on shelf vs others. It’s fresh and funky and playful! Jorge seemed monotone with the color. Joanne seems too much flamingo going on and hard to read. Pedro I really liked the design on paper but too busy on the box? Abi is good but missing something I can’t place, more colors maybe.

  • @TodaysSpecialMinis
    @TodaysSpecialMinis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think you still should have added your design to the final image so we could visually see it next to the others - even if we aren't able to vote for you. The name is clunky "immerscent" so that's starting off awkward and the concept of mixing scent and sound is a bit obscure - how exactly did they describe how they were going to do this??? Do you get an exclusive music playlist with every scent? Otherwise - it makes scents, but doesn't make sense. Pun intended. In any case - no matter what design you get you will always see things that work and things that don't - even in your design, I found the little music bar thing to be superfluous - I didn't get it. Maybe if it had a recognizable play icon like an arrow it would have been a stronger music symbol, but if I were to see that on the shelf I would just think it's a line with a dot - just another design element to fill some space. I do, however, love the way you customized the logo - your interpretation of that weird named looked the best of the lot. And while the design was interesting - very bold and stark against the white background, it just seems a little - plain. I don't know - it WORKS though, but it just kinds reminds me of a random tile pattern. Simple and super clean. I found the blobs of color around the name on the package and on the scent bottle to be kind of - I dunno... I feel some type of way about it, but can't articulate it. the design is almost so "no frills" that you would think it's something a designer would present to a client who is on a VERY tight budget. As for the designs you want votes on, if I was forced to choose one, I would choose Matt.
    Matt (Winner) - The design looks bold and bright and summery. The scent sticks look thin and light and airy - like the scent just wafts through the air. The colors almost match the actual bottle (wish they had). The dark blue and light blue kind of look clunky and out of place - the light blue is too light/bright and the navy blue is too dark/bold. I wish the colors would have stayed in the golden oranges, yellow, and maybe a little red to mirror the scent bottle. And maybe tone down some of the extra elements - beating me over the head with the summer icons (palm trees, volley balls, musical instruments, fruit, tropical animals, etc). And in the middle of all of this - that stark, almost medicinal label that looks like it should be more on a face cream. Other than that - it gives me the most consistent idea of summer, scents, and sounds because it has ALL three.
    Jorge (Runner Up) - It's basic, but that doesn't mean it's not appropriate. If the client wants something more "familiar" then this def fits the bill. The use of the reeds in the design in the shape of the rising sun (the apropo symbol for summer) is literally the best thing about this design. Otherwise - this doesn't tell me anything else. It actually looks like a standard cosmetic line - you might pass this on the aisle and think it was lotion. I think the dark pink background and the heavy drop shadows weigh this design down giving it the opposite feel of light, summer vibes and fun. This looks like it could actually be a Clinique brand product or packaging for Tan Towels. The reeds also look very heavy and oily and thick in this mockup - making it seem like the scent will linger and be overpowering like an old grandma with thick, floral perfume on. The heavy feeling is also reinforced by the boxes laid flat - it's like they're too heavy to even sit upright.
    Joanne and Pedro (Tied #3) - Both designs look incongruous for the brand. Pedro edges slightly ahead of Joanne because at least his reeds come in multiple colors and I think that would add nicely to the room decor. His design though - is a bit too abstract and the colors a bit too muted - nothing about it says summer, sounds, or scents. The box design is playful and whimsical, but the product design is very sedate - went form curves and odd shapes on the box to lines on the actual scent bottle. Joanne's is visually (and easily) hands down the most elegant, luxe, sophisticated of all the designs, but I think that's the problem. The design is too dense - almost overwhelming for scent sticks. You don't want to feel like you're being smothered with scent. And the palm trees and flamingos are just too dang regional and specific - summer in Florida or the tropics, maybe, but certainly not summer in the mid-west or mild climates. The pink and green together - not really stretching the color combo muscle there - that's a no-brainer. I wonder what this would've looked like if the flamingo was a bright yellow instead of pink. I actually like her logo as well, the wavy letters in "immerse" do give the feel of water or movement - which is great. She should have gone all the way and made the "i" wavy, too - it looks weird standing there at attention while the rest of its letters are exaggerated. I love how she made knowing how to pronounce the name easy by making both words visually different - "immers" and "cent."
    This is fun to watch. I love seeing how different designers interpret something. If I had to choose one element from each design to use to come up with a different design I would choose your logo (simple, but cool), matt's mockup (love the standing boxes), jorge's colors (light, bright, versatile palette that fits the product), joanne's layout (I like where she placed the elements on her design), and pedro's multicolored sticks.

    This video is really special the idea of it was so unexpectable and so exciting .
    I think Joanne worked with the riskiest direction and still managed to make it look very good and when we put the four designs together Joanne's design just stands out and grabbs the most attention at least my attention that why I will vote for her the only question i got is why she used a flamingo ? maybe that's in the vid but im too lazy to read lol .

      @@abiconnick It definitely did, no worries about that! I know, I sweat a lot when I have to tell my opinion and people nowadays have such a thin skin, it's really difficult sometimes to put it in "right" words for them. I think you did a great job and it takes a lot of courage, because I would be so afraid to tell my opinion, since a couple of times my questions and thoughts have completely been misunderstood on IG by a couple of people, while, in fact, they were only offended by my ignorance trying to unterstand more their work, nothing else. I think that all the hating that goes around is making people blind to the point that they can't distinguish between a genuine question from a hater. That's why I don't ask much anymore. Agree here! I agree also very much with the critiques! Matt has missed a bit of unity in the design, I feel, but the pacakging design was genius!!! I would choose Abi for consistency and aesthetics. Jorge and Joanne were also very very good, but there are patterns in their designs that I have already seen elsewhere. Jorge's idea is genius but maybe the fact that it is so simple, it resembles something already seen in the past? Pedro's reminds me of snow in winter.. XD I am sorry, but I can't but genuinely think of snow when looking at the white points on blue background. Wondering why he did that.

    • @r1pperuk
      @r1pperuk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A good designer's style will be born from the zeitgeist. Understanding trends and how to stay ahead of them. Whats the point of developing a style if its always out of date 3 years later. Illustrators need a style, good designers need to pioneer, read the room and spiral out into the contemporary. Remember a designer is only as good as the sites he is influenced by.
