    Very nice and concise review. Articulate speaking which is direct and to the point without a bunch of ah's and oh's. Very professionally done! Bravo!

    I really like this way of doing reviews. First time I watched one from start to finish all the way. I enjoyed and learned a lot about the model and the prototype. Please continue doing this way. Small suggestion, could you explain the use of some of the small details that are on the prototype. When you talked about the white anti climber, and cut lever. I don't know what those are used for. Other than that Awesome!

      Ben, the SD40-2's originally did not have ditchlights from the factory. When ditchlights started being added to engines in the 90s, eventually pretty much all SD40-2's did get ditchlights.However, for this road number it is correct for the engine to be in the white face paint scheme and still be without ditchlights. Cheers, Kevin

    Good review Kevin with some nice facts about the prototype. The biggest thing I feel is the lack of inward facing traction motors on the trucks,leaving a big gap between the trucks and the fuel tank. This was the reason for the long "verandahs" on the dash2's and to leave them out is a deal breaker for me. Nice review just the same, and I have seen a few real ones during my time in the States so far!! They are so cool in real life!!
    Cheers Gregg

    • @Modeltrains
      @Modeltrains  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      FishplateFilms Greg, thanks for the feedback. You can get a great view of how the space between the trucks and the fuel tank should look at 11:06. I didn't think there was that much difference in how the model looked from the side. If it bothers me in the future I can easily add some plastruct to the inside of the truck to fill in the gap a little more. For the Intermountain N scale tunnel motors, I completely agree with you and always thought the lack of the traction motors make the whole engine look "off". Cheers, Kevin

      Scale Model Trains & Colorado's Joint Line I guess I'm comparing them with all my Kato's, that have a "traction motor" moulded into the trucks as you know. Just me being picky but it would drive me crazy..LOL
      Cheers mate!

    My CSX Intermountain has been sent back to the factory. The trucks were defective, the frame wobbled on the trucks. Been there for over 5 months waiting on new trucks.

    • @Modeltrains
      @Modeltrains  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      KU4PC A shame your engines trucks were messed up. Hopefully Intermountain will get the engine back to you soon. Sounds like they've already had it for a while. My BN unit runs nice and stead--no wobbling at all. Hopefully it won't develop the problems that yours had over time. Cheers, Kevin

    Ok I am curious have you worked with plaster of paris before? If so can you tell me if Plaster of Paris will work if I form a Mountain out of dirt in a contained area on my layout and pour plaster of paris over the formed dirt mountain?I was thinking using that technique to create the entire bottom platform of my layout( creating the hills and valleys ect... and then adding in an effect to create a dirt and rock effect to it and then adding in a grass, water or stream effect and then molding in my road.Basically the entire table will be dirt with plaster of paris poured over it to give it a terrain and mountainous feel and effect.Im not sure if you get what I mean but hopefully you understand what im saying.

    • @Modeltrains
      @Modeltrains  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael David Cilantro Michael, I think I know what you're getting at. While you might end up with an ok final look using that technique, there are several other techniques of building up mountains and terrain that will give you the same look much easier. Most of these techniques involve building a support frame out of foam, cardboard strips, wadded up newspaper, or screen mesh, then covering those supports with plaster. Either plaster cloth or plaster soaked paper towels. You could also just lay paper towels or newspaper on the supports, wet it, and then pour plaster or Paris on it, but you'd get a lot more unnatural look than you would with plaster soaked paper towels. You can also use Woodland Scenics Shaper Sheet to create mountains (you can check out my review of the Shaper Sheet if you'd like), I think this works great for smaller areas, but if you're going to do a whole layout, I'd stick to one of the more traditional methods. Remember that plaster of Paris can be heavy and you don't need all that thick of a layer to provide all the support you need for your scenery. Hope this helps. Cheers, Kevin

      Awesome well I need a heavy bottom as Im not building just a train layout I am also building a 1/64th scale diecast racing track that cars can race down that looks like an actual road.Last time my supports were to heavy and fell through the paper cloth after 2 weeks of standing upright on my layout.The whole layout came crashing down.Its basically a giant mountain with a train and road going down and around it.The cars can race down the track and the train just drives around the whole layout.

    do you know any store that sells HO scale BNSF locomotives.

    • @Modeltrains
      @Modeltrains  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most every model train store sells BNSF engines as they are 1 of only 2 western class railroads left. Just check out some of the model train stores on line and you should be able to find plenty of BNSF engines. Cheers, Kevin
