- The secrets of the Yellow Switch have finally been cracked. Everything you need to know about the Yellow Switch will be explained in this video. Credit goes to Benedani for looking in to the game files and discovering the flags that trigger the Yellow Switch. This is my first video edited using Adobe Premiere Pro, although it's mainly just cuts and not really anything fancy.

Fr now i can’t find it 😅 the first time it took it i found it cause i guess the game gave it cuz it spawned right in front of me, but in the castle a random wind blew it off and it fell into a painting and i heard the enter painting effect and then I froze for a min like “what…” then i jumped in looked all over and can’t find it 😂
So I guess the yellow switch is linked to most of the flags in SM64 that are permanent or semi-permanent in nature. The stars that set a flag to no longer appear after the first time collecting them, Mario losing his hat and the hat being spawned with Klepto, the unlocking of a door using stars or a Bowser key, etc.
I showed this hack to my girlfriend not that long ago and she opened the door for the Secret Slide and then when she found the Metal Cap stage, the switch was pressed and needless to say I freaked out lol. At least now I know why, so thank you for the vid.

Great and thorough video about that odd switch. Although I suggest trimming the fat a bit and not show the pressed switch so often.
You only need to show the switch being pressed once for each.
-The four stars
-Any event with the missing cap
-All methods of getting the 2 Bowser Key
-Draining the Moat
-And unlocking the lesser star doors.
Like five times at most can be shown over the 12 est. shown here. If you want to go ultra lean, you can just show a few examples and provide a list of all events that the switch triggers and the other way around.
I was thinking the same thing. My initial thought process was to showcase that each individual action will press the Yellow Switch, but it ended up becoming quite long because of it. Thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in my mind for future videos!
Do we know WHY all of these things are connected together? As well as why some stars share the same ID? is it due to a limitation, and is a biproduct, or was it intentional to make it seem more mysterious/seem more like an unfinished beta?
I think these things are all flags that permanently (or semi-permanently) change something about the game. Once you unlock a door it remains unlocked for the rest of the game. Once you lose your hat, nothing will bring it back except retrieving it from where it was lost. Once you collect a Toad or MIPS star, that star will no longer be spawnable. Those things are likely all tied to true/false flags or something similar, so the yellow switch just changes a lot of falses to trues, and if ANY of them are true the switch is pressed.

Wow everything seems off and weird! I never even knew there was a yellow switch!
Since there's stars it gives you that can be collected without triggering the switch, will then pressing the switch give more stars as copies of those collected stars, giving the player more stars than what can be collected in B3313 or will the switch give you the other stars if you collected the non-trigger stars? No copies of those stars?
@VeloxusGaming: And @ others: This explaination above is only for the 0.7 version, the 0.9 and 1.0 version they fix the crash of the yellow switch with the spot light, and also they map the 100 coins stars to a mission stars instead, and also change the lid of the cannon into power-stars that count, so only 178 stars that counts without the yellow switch, but with RNG with the yellow switch in the new version only 180 stars will count, and this time collecting the power-stars link to the yellow switch will not make the yellow switch press, if they fix the id duplication glitch for the power stars it would double the ammount of power-stars that counts. The yellow switch in this new version by pressing it the first time the one with the spot light in will corrupt the area and randomly turn some stars completion on, and also activated all the power-up caps, and also permanatly lose your hat, if you go back to that same yellow switch when it was already press you can press it again, to turn off the completed power stars that it completed and also turn off the power-up cap, this will not recover your hat, and this will also not remove additional crashes that happen when you play the game, pressing it again will only turn the same star back on and the cap activated again, so I do not know if the underwater yellow switch is map to a diffrent think in version 0.9 and 1.0 and in does version you need red stars to finish the game, their is no more keys Bowser gives red stars. I think it is 15 red star to finish the game. They are a lot of new stuff the creator of the game will stop working on it, but will still make the decision but only is staff will work on the game to complete the game.
Ukiki is in B3313.. I just can't remember which level they were in.
There's also a fake yellow switch that turns into an star in Bob-Omb Cavern, And as of v0.9, the yellow switch at that dark area no longer crashes and is just like the one in Metal Cap Under The Water

If you collect the star that is with the yellow switch your hat dissapears
why was it already pressed when i went here ?
In the caption shown at 1:02 it says collecting any of the stars the yellow switch is assigned to giving you makes it appear pressed down. The stars that the switch is assigned to are shown after that

So basically is useless?
